Leviticus 10

1 Then Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, took each man his censer and placed therein fire, and put thereon incense, —and brought near before Yahweh strange fire, which he had not commanded them.

Les fils d’Aaron, Nadab et Abiu, prirent chacun leur encensoir, y mirent du feu et, ayant posé du parfum dessus, ils apportèrent devant Yahweh un feu étranger, ce qu’il ne leur avait pas commandé.

2 Then came there forth fire from before Yahweh, and consumed them, —and they died before Yahweh.

Alors un feu sortit de devant Yahweh et les dévora: ils moururent devant Yahweh.

3 Then said Moses unto Aaron—The very thing, that Yahweh spake, saying—In them that draw near to me, must I be hallowed, And before the faces of all the people, must I get myself honour, —And Aaron, was dumb.

Et Moïse dit à Aaron: « C’est ce que Yahweh a déclaré, lorsqu’il a dit: Je serai sanctifié en ceux qui m’approchent, et je serai glorifié en présence de tout le peuple. » Aaron se tut.

4 Then called Moses unto Mishael, and unto Elzaphan, sons of Uzziel, uncle of Aaron, —and said unto them—Draw near bear away your brethren from before the sanctuary, unto the outside of the camp.

Et Moïse appela Misaël et Elisaphon, fils d’Oziel, oncle d’Aaron, et il leur dit: « Approchez-vous, emportez vos frères loin du sanctuaire, hors du camp. »

5 So they drew near and bare them away, in their tunics, unto the outside of the camp, —as spake Moses.

Ils s’approchèrent et les emportèrent revêtus de leurs tuniques hors du camp, comme Moïse l’avait ordonné.

6 Then said Moses unto Aaron and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons—Your heads, ye may not bare and your garments, ye shall not rend so shall ye not die, neither against all the assembly, will he be wroth, —but let, your brethren the whole house of Israel, bewail the consuming fire wherewith Yahweh hath consumed.

Moïse dit à Aaron, à Eléazar et à Ithamar: « Vous ne laisserez pas flotter en désordre les cheveux de votre tête et vous ne déchirerez pas vos vêtements, de peur que vous ne mouriez, et que Yahweh ne s’irrite contre toute l’assemblée. Que vos frères, toute la maison d’Israël, pleurent sur l’embrasement que Yahweh a allumé.

7 But, from the entrance of the tent of meeting, shall ye not go forth, lest ye die, for, the anointing oil of Yahweh is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.

Pour vous, vous ne sortirez pas de l’entrée de la tente de réunion, de peur que vous ne mouriez; car l’huile de l’onction de Yahweh est sur vous. » Ils firent ce que Moïse avait dit.

8 Then spake Yahweh unto Aaron, saying:

Yahweh parla à Aaron, en disant:

9 Wine and strong drink, thou mayest not drink, —thou nor thy sons with thee when ye enter into the tent of meeting, so shall ye not die, —an age-abiding statute to your generations;

« Tu ne boiras ni vin, ni boisson enivrante, toi et tes fils avec toi, lorsque vous entrerez dans la tente de réunion, afin que vous ne mouriez pas: c’est une loi perpétuelle parmi vos descendants,

10 That ye may make a difference, between the sacred and the common, —and between the unclean and the clean;

et afin que vous sachiez discerner ce qui est saint de ce qui est profane, ce qui est pur de ce qui est impur,

11 And may teach the sons of Israel, —all the statutes which Yahweh hath spoken unto them, by the mediation of Moses.

et afin que vous puissiez enseigner aux enfants d’Israël toutes les lois que Yahweh leur a données par Moïse.

12 Then spake Moses unto Aaron and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar his sons that were left, Take ye the meal-offering that is left of the altar-flames of Yahweh, and eat it unleavened beside the altar, —for, most holy, it is;

Moïse dit à Aaron, à Eléazar et à Ithamar, les deux fils qui restaient à Aaron: « Prenez l’oblation qui reste des sacrifices faits par le feu à Yahweh, et mangez-la sans levain près de l’autel, car c’est une chose très sainte.

13 therefore shall ye eat it in a holy place, for, thine by statute, and thy sons’ by statute, it is, from among the altar-flames of Yahweh, —for, so, am I commanded.

Vous la mangerez dans un lieu saint: c’est ton droit et le droit de tes fils sur les offrandes faites par le feu à Yahweh; c’est là ce qui m’a été ordonné.

14 And the wave-breast, and the heave-shoulder, shall ye eat in clean place, thou, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, —for as thine by statute and thy sons’ by statute, have they been given, from among the peace-offerings of the sons of Israel.

Vous mangerez aussi en lieu pur, toi, tes fils et tes filles avec toi, la poitrine qui aura été balancée et la cuisse qui aura été prélevée; car ces morceaux vous sont donnés comme ton droit et le droit de tes fils sur les sacrifices pacifiques des enfants d’Israël.

15 The heave-shoulder and the wave-breast upon the altar-flames of the fat portions, shall they bring in, to wave as a wave-offering, before Yahweh, —so shall they be thine, and thy sons’ with thee, by an age-abiding statute, As Yahweh hath commanded.

Ils apporteront, outre les graisses destinées à être consumées par le feu, la cuisse que l’on prélève et la poitrine que l’on balance, pour qu’elles soient balancées devant Yahweh; elles seront pour toi et pour tes fils avec toi par une loi perpétuelle, comme Yahweh l’a ordonné. »

16 Now, as for the sin-bearing goat, Moses diligently sought it but lo! it had been burnt up, —then was he wroth against Eleazar and against Ithamar, the sons of Aaron that were left, saying:

Moïse s’enquit du bouc immolé pour le péché, et voici, il avait été brûlé. Alors, il s’irrita contre Eléazar et Ithamar, les fils qui restaient à Aaron, et il leur dit:

17 Wherefore did ye not eat the sin-bearer in the holy place? for most, holy, it is, —and thee same, hath he given you that ye may bear the iniquity of the assembly, to put a propitiatory-covering over them before Yahweh.

« Pourquoi n’avez-vous pas mangé la victime pour le péché dans le lieu saint? Car c’est une chose très sainte, et Yahweh vous l’a donnée, afin que vous portiez l’iniquité de l’assemblée, afin que vous fassiez pour elle l’expiation devant Yahweh.

18 Lo! the blood thereof had not been taken into the holy place, within, —ye should have, indeed eaten, it, in a holy place, as I commanded.

Voici, le sang de la victime n’a pas été porté dans l’intérieur du sanctuaire; vous deviez la manger dans un lieu saint, comme je l’ai commandé. »

19 Then spake Aaron unto Moses—Lo! this very day, when they had brought near their own sin-bearer, and their own ascending-sacrifice, there befell me such things as these, —if, then, I had eaten of the sin-bearer this day, would it have been well-pleasing in the eyes of Yahweh?

Aaron dit à Moïse: « Voici, ils ont offert aujourd’hui leur sacrifice pour le péché et leur holocauste devant Yahweh; mais, après ce qui m’est arrivé, si j’avais mangé aujourd’hui la victime pour le péché, cela eût-il été agréable aux yeux de Yahweh? »

20 And, when Moses heard that, then was it well-pleasing in his eyes.

Moïse, ayant entendu ces paroles, il les eut pour agréables.
