Judges 8
1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him—What is this thing thou hast done to us, in not calling us, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him, sharply.
૧એફ્રાઇમના પુરુષોએ ગિદિયોનને કહ્યું, “તું અમારી સાથે આમ કેમ વર્ત્યો છે? જયારે તું મિદ્યાનીઓની સાથે લડવા ગયો ત્યારે તેં અમને બોલાવ્યા નહિ.” અને તેઓએ તેને સખત ઠપકો આપ્યો.
2 And he said unto them, What have I done, now, in comparison with you? Is not the grape-gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
૨તેણે તેઓને કહ્યું, “તમે જે કર્યું છે તેની સરખામણીમાં મેં તો કશું કર્યુ નથી? એફ્રાઇમની દ્રાક્ષોનો સળો તે અબીએઝેરની દ્રાક્ષોના આખા ફાલ કરતાં શું સારો નથી?
3 Into your hand, hath God delivered the princes of Midian—Oreb and Zeeb, what then had I been able to do in comparison with you? Then, was their spirit softened toward him, when he had spoken this word.
૩ઈશ્વરે તમને મિદ્યાનીઓના ઓરેબ તથા ઝએબ સરદારોની ઉપર વિજય અપાવ્યો! તમારી સાથે સરખામણીમાં હું શું કરી શક્યો છું?” જયારે તેણે આમ કહ્યું, ત્યારે તેઓ ઠંડા પડ્યા.
4 And Gideon came towards the Jordan, being about to pass over—he, and the three hundred men who were with him, faint yet pursuing.
૪ગિદિયોન યર્દન નદી આગળ આવ્યો અને તે તથા તેની સાથેના ત્રણસો માણસો પાર ઊતર્યા. તેઓ થાકેલાં હતા, તેમ છતાં તેઓ શત્રુઓની પાછળ લાગેલા હતા.
5 So he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread to the people that are following me; for, faint, they are, and, I, am in pursuit of Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.
૫તેણે સુક્કોથના લોકોને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને મારી પાછળ આવનાર આ લોકોને રોટલી આપો, કેમ કે તેઓ થાકેલાં છે અને હું મિદ્યાનના ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્ના રાજાઓની પાછળ પડ્યો છું.”
6 And the princes of Succoth said, Are the palms of the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in thy power, —that we should give to thine army bread?
૬સુક્કોથના આગેવાનોએ કહ્યું, “ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાના હાથ હાલ શું તારા હાથમાં છે કે અમે તારા સૈન્યને રોટલી આપીએ?”
7 And Gideon said, Therefore, when Yahweh hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my power, then will I tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness, and with the nettles.
૭ગિદિયોને કહ્યું, “જયારે ઈશ્વરે આપણને ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્ના ઉપર વિજય આપ્યો છે, ત્યારે જંગલના કાંટાથી તથા ઝાંખરાથી હું તમારાં શરીર ઉઝરડી નાખીશ.”
8 So he went up from thence, to Penuel, and spake unto them in like manner, —and the men of Penuel answered him, as had answered the men of Succoth.
૮ત્યાંથી તે પનુએલ ગયો અને ત્યાં લોકોને તે જ રીતે કહ્યું, જેમ સુક્કોથના લોકોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો હતો તેવો જ ઉત્તર પનુએલના લોકોએ પણ તેને આપ્યો.
9 So he spake to the men of Penuel also, saying, —When I return with success, I will break down this tower.
૯તેણે પનુએલના લોકોને પણ કહ્યું, “જયારે હું શાંતિથી પાછો આવીશ, ત્યારે હું તમારો આ કિલ્લો તોડી પાડીશ.”
10 Now, Zebah and Zalmunna, were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand, all that were left out of all the host of the sons of the east, —and, the fallen, were a hundred and twenty thousand men, who had drawn the sword.
૧૦હવે ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્ના કાર્કોરમાં હતા તેઓનું સૈન્ય સાથે હતા, એટલે પૂર્વ દિશાના લોકના આખા સૈન્યમાંથી બચી રહેલા લગભગ પંદર હજાર માણસો, તેઓની સાથે હતા. કેમ કે એક લાખ અને વીસ હજાર શૂરવીરો માર્યા ગયા હતા.
11 So Gideon went up by the way of the tent-dwellers, on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host, when, the host, had become secure.
૧૧ગિદિયોને નોબાહની તથા યોગ્બહાહની પૂર્વ બાજુએ તંબુમાં રહેનાર લોકોના માર્ગે જઈને દુશ્મનોને માર્યા. તેણે દુશ્મનોના સૈન્યને હરાવ્યા, કેમ કે તેઓ હુમલો કરવા માટે નિર્ભય હતા.
12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, then he pursued them, and captured the two kings of Midian—Zebah and Zalmunna, and, all the host, put he in terror.
૧૨ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્ના નાઠા, ત્યારે ગિદિયોન તેઓની પાછળ પડ્યો હતો, તેણે મિદ્યાનના રાજાઓ ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાને પકડીને તેઓના સૈન્યનો પરાજય કર્યો.
13 And Gideon son of Joash returned from the battle, —from the ascent of Heres;
૧૩યોઆશનો દીકરો ગિદિયોન, હેરેસથી પસાર થઈને લડાઈમાંથી પાછો ફર્યો.
14 and caught a young man, of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him, —so he wrote down for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy-seven men.
૧૪તેણે સુક્કોથના માણસોમાંથી એક જુવાનને પકડીને સૂર્યોદય વખતે પૂછ્યું, ત્યારે તે જુવાન માણસે સુક્કોથના આગેવાનોને તથા તેઓના વડીલો જે સિત્તોતેર હતા તેઓની માહિતી તેઓને આપી.
15 Then came he in unto the men of Succoth, and said, Lo! Zebah and Zalmunna, —concerning whom ye did taunt me, saying—Are the palms of the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in thy power, that we should give to thy weary men bread?
૧૫ગિદિયોને સુક્કોથના લોકોની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું, “ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાને જુઓ, તેઓ સંબંધી તમે એમ કહીને મને મહેણું માર્યું હતું કે, ‘શું હાલ ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાના હાલ તારા હાથમાં છે કે અમારે તારા થાકેલાં માણસોને રોટલી આપવી જોઈએ?”
16 So he took the elders of the city, and the thorns of the wilderness and the nettles, and taught therewith the men of Succoth:
૧૬ગિદિયોને નગરના વડીલોને પકડીને જંગલના કાંટા તથા ઝાંખરાં લઈને તે વડે સુક્કોથના લોકોને શિક્ષા કરી.
17 the tower of Penuel also, brake he down, —and slew the men of the city.
૧૭વળી તેણે પનુએલનો કિલ્લો તોડી પાડ્યો અને તે નગરના માણસોનો સંહાર કર્યો.
18 Then said he unto Zebah and unto Zalmunna, What manner of men were they, whom ye slew at Tabor? And they said, As thou art, so were they, each one, as handsome as the sons of a king.
૧૮ત્યારે ગિદિયોને ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાને કહ્યું, “તાબોરમાં જે લોકોની તમે કતલ કરી તે કેવા માણસો હતા?” તેઓએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “જેવો તું છે, તેવા તેઓ હતા. તેઓમાંનો પ્રત્યેક વ્યક્તિ રાજાના દીકરા જેવો દેખાતો હતો.”
19 And he said: My brethren, sons of my mother, they were! As Yahweh liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not have slain you.
૧૯ગિદિયોને કહ્યું, “તેઓ મારા ભાઈ, એટલે મારી માતાના દીકરા હતા. હું જીવતા ઈશ્વરની હાજરીમાં કહું છું કે, જો તેઓના જીવ તમે બચાવ્યા હોત, તો હું તમને મારી નાખત નહિ.”
20 So he said to Jether his firstborn, Up! slay them. But the youth drew not his sword, for he feared, because he was yet a youth.
૨૦તેણે તેના પ્રથમજનિત દીકરા યેથેરને કહ્યું, “ઊઠ તેઓને મારી નાખ!” પણ તે જુવાન માણસે પોતાની તલવાર તાણી નહિ, તે ગભરાયો, કેમ કે તે હજી જુવાન હતો.
21 Then said Zebah and Zalmunna—Up! thou, and fall upon us, for, like the man, is his might. So Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on the necks of their camels.
૨૧પછી ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાએ કહ્યું, “તું ઊઠીને અમને મારી નાખ! કેમ કે જેવું માણસ, તેવું તેનું બળ.” ગિદિયોને ઊઠીને ઝેબા તથા સાલ્મુન્નાને મારી નાખ્યા. અને તેઓનાં ઊંટોનાં ગળા પરના ચંદ્રઆકારના દાગીના લઈ લીધા.
22 Then said the men of Israel, unto Gideon, Rule over us—even thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, —for thou hast saved us out of the power of Midian.
૨૨ત્યારે ઇઝરાયલના માણસોએ ગિદિયોનને કહ્યું, “તું અમારા પર રાજ કર. તું, તારો દીકરો તથા તારા દીકરાનો દીકરો - કેમ કે મિદ્યાનના હાથમાંથી તેં અમને ઉગાર્યા છે.”
23 And Gideon said unto them, I, will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you, —Yahweh, shall rule over you.
૨૩ગિદિયોને તેઓને કહ્યું, “તમારા પર હું રાજ નહિ કરું અને મારો દીકરો પણ રાજ નહિ કરે. ઈશ્વર તમારા પર રાજ કરશે.”
24 And Gideon said unto them—I would make to you a request, Give me, then, every man the nose-ring of his spoil. For they had, nose-rings of gold, for, Ishmaelites, they were.
૨૪ગિદિયોને તેઓને કહ્યું, “હું તમને એક વિનંતી કરવા ચાહું છું કે જે સર્વ કુંડળ તમે લૂંટ્યાં છે તે મને આપો.” કેમ કે તેઓ ઇશ્માએલીઓ હતા, માટે તેઓનાં કુંડળ સોનાનાં હતાં.
25 And they said, We will, freely give. So they spread out a mantle, and cast therein, every man the nose-ring of his spoil.
૨૫તેઓએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “અમે ખુશીથી તે આપીશું.” અને વસ્ત્ર પાથરીને તેઓમાંના પ્રત્યેક માણસે પોતે લૂંટેલાં કુંડળ તેમાં નાખ્યાં.
26 And so it was, that the weight of the nose-rings of gold which he requested, was a thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold, —besides the crescents, and the pendants, and the raiment of purple that were upon the kings of Midian, and besides the ornaments that were on the necks of their camels.
૨૬સોનાનાં જે કુંડળો તેણે માંગી લીધાં, તેનું વજન એક હજાર સાતસો શેકેલ હતું. તે ઉપરાંત તેમાં કલગીઓ, લોલકો તથા મિદ્યાનના રાજાઓના અંગ પરનાં જાંબુડીયા વસ્ત્ર તથા તેઓનાં ઊંટોના ગળામાંની સાંકળ હતી.
27 And Gideon made thereof an Ephod, and set it up in his own city, in Ophrah, and all Israel went unchastely astray after it there, —so it became, to Gideon and to his house, a snare.
૨૭ગિદિયોને કુંડળોનું એક એફોદ બનાવ્યું અને પોતાના નગર ઓફ્રામાં તે મૂક્યું અને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલીઓએ તેની ઉપાસના કરીને પોતાને વ્યભિચારમાં વટાળ્યાં. તે ગિદિયોનને તથા તેના કુટુંબને માટે ફાંદારૂપ થઈ પડ્યું.
28 Thus was Midian subdued, before the sons of Israel, neither did they again lift up their head, —and the land had rest forty years, in the days of Gideon.
૨૮તેથી મિદ્યાનીઓ ઇઝરાયલી લોકો આગળ હારી ગયા અને તેઓએ ફરી પોતાનાં માથાં ઊંચા કર્યા નહિ. અને ગિદિયોનના દિવસોમાં ચાળીસ વર્ષ સુધી દેશમાં શાંતિ રહી.
29 So then Jerubbaal, son of Joash, went and dwelt in his own house.
૨૯યોઆશનો દીકરો યરુબાલ પોતાના ઘરમાં રહ્યો.
30 And, Gideon, had seventy sons, sprung from his own loins, —for, many wives, had he.
૩૦ગિદિયોનને સિત્તેર દીકરા થયા હતા, કેમ કે તેને ઘણી પત્નીઓ હતી.
31 And, his concubine who was in Shechem, she also, bare him a son, —and he gave him the name of Abimelech.
૩૧શખેમમાં તેની એક ઉપપત્ની હતી, તેણે પણ તેને માટે એક દીકરાને જન્મ આપ્યો અને ગિદિયોને તેનું નામ અબીમેલેખ પાડ્યું.
32 And Gideon, son of Joash, died in a good old age, —and was buried in the grave of Joash his father, in Ophrah, of the Abiezrites.
૩૨યોઆશનો દીકરો ગિદિયોન, ઘણી વૃદ્ધ ઉંમરે મરણ પામ્યો અને અબીએઝેરીઓના ઓફ્રામાં તેના પિતા યોઆશની કબરમાં તેને દફનાવવામાં આવ્યો.
33 And it came to pass that, as soon as Gideon was dead, the sons of Israel turned back, and went unchastely astray after the Baals, —and appointed them Baal-berith, to be god:
૩૩ગિદિયોનના મરણ પછી એમ થયું કે, ઇઝરાયલના લોકોએ પાછા ફરીને બઆલની પૂજા કરીને વ્યભિચાર કર્યો, તેઓએ બઆલ-બરીથને પોતાનો દેવ માન્યો.
34 so the sons of Israel remembered not Yahweh, their own God, —who had rescued them out of the hand of all their enemies, on every side;
૩૪જેમણે ચારે તરફના સર્વ શત્રુઓના હાથમાંથી તેઓને બચાવ્યા હતા, તે તેમના પ્રભુ, ઈશ્વરનો આદર ઇઝરાયલના લોકોએ કર્યો નહિ.
35 neither dealt they in lovingkindness with the house of Jerubbaal [namely] Gideon, —according to all the goodness wherewith he had dealt with Israel.
૩૫જે સર્વ ભલાઈ ઇઝરાયલના લોકો પ્રત્યે યરુબાલે એટલે ગિદિયોને દર્શાવી હતી, તે પ્રમાણે તેઓએ તેના ઘર પર ભલાઈ રાખી નહિ.
