Joshua 10
1 And it came to pass, when Adonizedec, king of Jerusalem, heard that Joshua had captured Ai, and devoted it to destruction, as he had done unto Jericho and her king, so, had he done unto Ai and her king, —and that the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and had come into their midst,
Και ως ήκουσεν Αδωνισεδέκ ο βασιλεύς της Ιερουσαλήμ ότι ο Ιησούς εκυρίευσε την Γαί και εξωλόθρευσεν αυτήν, ότι, καθώς έκαμεν εις την Ιεριχώ και εις τον βασιλέα αυτής, ούτως έκαμεν εις την Γαί και εις τον βασιλέα αυτής, και ότι οι κάτοικοι της Γαβαών έκαμον ειρήνην μετά του Ισραήλ και έμενον μεταξύ αυτών,
2 then feared they greatly, because Gibeon was, a great city, as one of the royal cities, —and because, it, was greater than Ai, and, all the men thereof, were mighty:
εφοβήθησαν σφόδρα· διότι ήτο πόλις μεγάλη η Γαβαών, ως μία των βασιλικών πόλεων, και διότι ήτο μεγαλητέρα της Γαί, και πάντες οι άνδρες αυτής δυνατοί.
3 therefore sent Adonizedec, king of Jerusalem, unto Hoham, king of Hebron, and unto Piram, king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia, king of Lachish, and unto Debir, king of Eglon, saying:
Διά τούτο απέστειλεν Αδωνισεδέκ ο βασιλεύς της Ιερουσαλήμ προς τον Ωάμ βασιλέα της Χεβρών, και προς τον Πιράμ βασιλέα της Ιαρμούθ, και προς τον Ιαφιά βασιλέα της Λαχείς, και προς τον Δεβείρ βασιλέα της Εγλών, λέγων,
4 Come up unto me and help me, that we may smite Gibeon, —for it hath made peace with Joshua, and with the sons of Israel.
Ανάβητε προς εμέ και βοηθήσατέ μοι, διά να πατάξωμεν την Γαβαών· διότι έκαμεν ειρήνην μετά του Ιησού και μετά των υιών Ισραήλ.
5 So they gathered themselves together and came up, even the five kings of the Amorites—the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, —they, and all their hosts, —and encamped near Gibeon, and made war against it.
Και συναχθέντες οι πέντε βασιλείς των Αμορραίων, ο βασιλεύς της Ιερουσαλήμ, ο βασιλεύς της Χεβρών, ο βασιλεύς της Ιαρμούθ, ο βασιλεύς της Λαχείς, ο βασιλεύς της Εγλών, ανέβησαν, αυτοί και πάντα τα στρατεύματα αυτών, και εστρατοπέδευσαν έμπροσθεν της Γαβαών και επολέμουν εναντίον αυτής.
6 So the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, saying, Do not withhold thy hand from thy servants, —Come up unto us quickly, and save us, and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill-country, are gathered together against us.
Και οι Γαβαωνίται απέστειλαν προς τον Ιησούν εις το στρατόπεδον εις Γάλγαλα, λέγοντες, Μη αποσύρης την χείρα σου από των δούλων σου· ανάβα προς ημάς ταχέως και σώσον ημάς και βοήθησον ημάς· διότι συνήχθησαν εναντίον ημών πάντες οι βασιλείς των Αμορραίων, οι κατοικούντες την ορεινήν.
7 So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, even all the mighty men of valour.
Και ανέβη ο Ιησούς από Γαλγάλων, αυτός και πας ο λαός ο πολεμιστής μετ' αυτού και πάντες οι δυνατοί εν ισχύϊ.
8 And Yahweh said unto Joshua: Do not fear because of them, for, into thy hand, have I delivered them, —not a man of them shall stand before thee.
Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Ιησούν, Μη φοβηθής αυτούς· διότι παρέδωκα αυτούς εις την χείρα σου· δεν θέλει σταθή έμπροσθέν σου ουδείς εξ αυτών.
9 So then Joshua came in unto them, suddenly, —all the night, came he up, from Gilgal.
Ήλθε λοιπόν επ' αυτούς ο Ιησούς εξαίφνης, αναβάς από Γαλγάλων δι' όλης της νυκτός.
10 And Yahweh confused them before Israel, and smote them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, —and chased them along the way that goeth up Beth-horon, and smote them as far as Azekah and as far as Makkedah.
Και κατετρόπωσεν αυτούς ο Κύριος έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ, και επάταξαν αυτούς εν σφαγή μεγάλη εν Γαβαών, και κατεδίωξαν αυτούς εις την οδόν την αναβαίνουσαν προς Βαιθ-ωρών, και κατέκοπτον αυτούς έως Αζηκά και έως Μακκηδά.
11 And it came to pass, when they fled from before Israel, they, being on the slope of Beth-horon, that, Yahweh, cast down upon them great stones out of the heavens, as far as Azekah, and they died, —more, were they who died by the hailstones, than they whom the sons of Israel slew with the sword.
Και ενώ, φεύγοντες απ' έμπροσθεν του Ισραήλ, ήσαν εν τη καταβάσει της Βαιθ-ωρών, ο Κύριος έρριψεν εκ του ουρανού κατ' αυτών λίθους μεγάλους έως Αζηκά, και απέθανον· περισσότεροι ήσαν οι αποθανόντες εκ των λίθων της χαλάζης, παρ' όσους οι υιοί Ισραήλ κατέκοψαν εν μαχαίρα.
12 Then, spake Joshua unto Yahweh, on the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, —yea he said, in the presence of Israel—Thou Sun! in Gibeon, be still, and thou Moon! in the vale of Aijalon.
Τότε ελάλησεν ο Ιησούς προς τον Κύριον, καθ' ην ημέραν ο Κύριος παρέδωκε τους Αμορραίους έμπροσθεν των υιών Ισραήλ, και είπεν ενώπιον του Ισραήλ, Στήθι, ήλιε, επί την Γαβαών, και συ, σελήνη, επί την φάραγγα Αιαλών.
13 So the sun, was still, and, the moon, stayed, until a nation should be avenged on its foes. Is not, that, written in the Book of the Upright? So then the sun stayed in the middle of the heavens, and hastened not to go in, about a whole day.
Και ο ήλιος εστάθη και η σελήνη έμεινεν, εωσού ο λαός εξεδικήθη τους εχθρούς αυτού. Δεν είναι τούτο γεγραμμένον εν τω βιβλίω του Ιασήρ; Και εστάθη ο ήλιος εν τω μέσω του ουρανού, και δεν έσπευσε να δύση έως μιας ολοκλήρου ημέρας.
14 And there was no day like that—before it or after it, when Yahweh hearkened unto the voice of a man, —in that, Yahweh, himself fought for Israel.
Και τοιαύτη ημέρα δεν υπήρξεν ούτε πρότερον ούτε ύστερον, ώστε ο Κύριος να ακούση φωνήν ανθρώπου· διότι ο Κύριος επολέμει υπέρ του Ισραήλ.
15 So Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp at Gilgal.
Και επέστρεψεν ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εις το στρατόπεδον εις Γάλγαλα.
16 So these five kings fled, —and hid themselves in a cave, at Makkedah.
Οι δε πέντε βασιλείς ούτοι έφυγον και εκρύφθησαν εις σπήλαιον εν Μακκηδά.
17 And it was told Joshua, saying, —The five kings are found, hid in a cave at Makkedah.
Και ανήγγειλαν προς τον Ιησούν, λέγοντες, οι πέντε βασιλείς ευρέθησαν κεκρυμμένοι εις σπήλαιον εν Μακκηδά.
18 And Joshua said, Roll ye great stones against the mouth of the cave, —and set over it men, to watch them;
Και είπεν ο Ιησούς, Κυλίσατε λίθους μεγάλους εις το στόμα του σπηλαίου, και καταστήσατε ανθρώπους πλησίον αυτού διά να φυλάττωσιν αυτούς·
19 but do not, ye, stay, chase after your enemies, so shall ye attack them in the rear, —do not suffer them to enter into their cities, for Yahweh your God hath delivered them into your hand.
και σεις μη στέκεσθε· καταδιώκετε τους εχθρούς σας και πατάξατε το όπισθεν αυτών· μη αφήσητε αυτούς να εισέλθωσιν εις τας πόλεις αυτών· διότι Κύριος ο Θεός σας παρέδωκεν αυτούς εις τας χείρας σας.
20 And it came to pass, when Joshua and the sons of Israel had made an end of smiting them with a very great slaughter, until they were spent, then did, the remainder that were left of them, enter into the fortified cities.
Και αφού ο Ιησούς και οι υιοί Ισραήλ ετελείωσαν φονεύοντες αυτούς εν σφαγή μεγάλη σφόδρα, εωσού εξωλοθρεύθησαν, οι λοιποί εξ αυτών, όσοι διεσώθησαν, εισήλθον εις ωχυρωμένας πόλεις.
21 And all the people returned unto the camp, unto Joshua at Makkedah, in peace, —none sharpened his tongue at any man of the sons of Israel.
Και πας ο λαός επέστρεψεν εις το στρατόπεδον προς τον Ιησούν εις Μακκηδά εν ειρήνη· ουδείς εκίνησε την γλώσσαν αυτού κατά τινός εκ των υιών Ισραήλ.
22 Then said Joshua, Open ye the mouth of the cave, —and bring out unto me, these five kings, out of the cave.
Και είπεν ο Ιησούς, Ανοίξατε το στόμα του σπηλαίου και εξαγάγετε προς εμέ τους πέντε βασιλείς εκείνους εκ του σπηλαίου.
23 And they did so, and brought out unto him, these five kings, out of the cave, —namely, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.
Και έκαμον ούτω και εξήγαγον προς αυτόν τους πέντε βασιλείς εκείνους εκ του σπηλαίου, τον βασιλέα της Ιερουσαλήμ, τον βασιλέα της Χεβρών, τον βασιλέα της Ιαρμούθ, τον βασιλέα της Λαχείς, τον βασιλέα της Εγλών.
24 And it came to pass, when they brought out these kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war who had been with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. So they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.
Και αφού εξήγαγον προς τον Ιησούν τους βασιλείς εκείνους, εκάλεσεν ο Ιησούς πάντας τους άνδρας του Ισραήλ, και είπε προς τους αρχηγούς των πολεμιστών τους ελθόντας μετ' αυτού, Πλησιάσατε, βάλετε τους πόδας σας επί τους τραχήλους των βασιλέων τούτων. Και αυτοί επλησίασαν και έβαλον τους πόδας αυτών επί τους τραχήλους αυτών.
25 Then said Joshua unto them: Do not fear, nor be alarmed, —be firm and bold, for, thus and thus, will Yahweh do unto all your enemies, against whom ye do fight.
Και είπε προς αυτούς ο Ιησούς, Μη φοβείσθε μηδέ δειλιάτε· ανδρίζεσθε και ενδυναμούσθε· επειδή ούτω θέλει κάμει ο Κύριος εις πάντας τους εχθρούς σας, κατά των οποίων μάχεσθε.
26 And Joshua smote them after this, and put them to death, and hanged them upon five trees, —and they remained hung on the trees, until the evening,
Και μετά ταύτα επάταξεν αυτούς ο Ιησούς και εθανάτωσεν αυτούς και εκρέμασεν αυτούς εις πέντε ξύλα· και εκρέμοντο εις τα ξύλα έως εσπέρας.
27 And it came to pass, at the time of the going in of the sun, that Joshua gave command, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave, where they had hid themselves, —and put great stones upon the mouth of the cave, [which remain], until this very day.
Περί δε την δύσιν του ηλίου, προσέταξεν ο Ιησούς, και κατεβίβασαν αυτούς από των ξύλων και έρριψαν αυτούς εις το σπήλαιον, όπου είχον κρυφθή, και εκύλισαν λίθους μεγάλους εις το στόμα του σπηλαίου, οίτινες μένουσιν έως της σήμερον ημέρας.
28 And Joshua captured, Makkedah, on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and, the king thereof, devoted he to destruction, them and all the souls that were therein, he left no survivor, —but did unto the king of Makkedah, as he had done unto the king of Jericho.
Και εν εκείνη τη ημέρα εκυρίευσεν ο Ιησούς την Μακκηδά, και επάταξεν εν στόματι μαχαίρας αυτήν και τον βασιλέα αυτής· εξωλόθρευσεν αυτούς και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή· δεν αφήκεν υπόλοιπον· και έκαμεν εις τον βασιλέα της Μακκηδά, καθώς έκαμεν εις τον βασιλέα της Ιεριχώ.
29 And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah unto Libnah, —and fought against Libnah;
Και διέβη ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εκ Μακκηδά εις Λιβνά και επολέμει την Λιβνά.
30 and Yahweh delivered, it also, into the hand of Israel, with the king thereof, and he smote it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls that were therein, he left therein no survivor, —but did unto the king thereof, as he had done unto the king of Jericho.
Και παρέδωκεν ο Κύριος και αυτήν και τον βασιλέα αυτής εις την χείρα του Ισραήλ· και επάταξεν εν στόματι μαχαίρας αυτήν και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή· δεν αφήκεν εν αυτή υπόλοιπον· και έκαμεν εις τον βασιλέα αυτής, καθώς έκαμεν εις τον βασιλέα της Ιεριχώ.
31 And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Libnah unto Lachish, —and encamped against it, and fought against it;
Και διέβη ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εκ Λιβνά εις Λαχείς, και εστρατοπέδευσε κατέναντι αυτής και επολέμει αυτήν.
32 and Yahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, and he captured it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls that were therein, —according to all that he had done unto Libnah.
Και παρέδωκεν ο Κύριος την Λαχείς εις την χείρα του Ισραήλ, και εκυρίευσεν αυτήν την δευτέραν ημέραν, και επάταξεν εν στόματι μαχαίρας αυτήν και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή, κατά πάντα όσα έκαμεν εις την Λιβνά.
33 Then, came up Horam, king of Gezer, to help Lachish, —and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had not left him a survivor.
Τότε ανέβη Ωράμ ο βασιλεύς της Γεζέρ διά να βοηθήση την Λαχείς· και ο Ιησούς επάταξεν αυτόν και τον λαόν αυτού, εωσού δεν αφήκεν εις αυτόν υπόλοιπον.
34 And Joshua passed over, and all Israel with him, from Lachish unto Eglon, —and they encamped against it, and fought against it;
Και διέβη ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εκ Λαχείς εις Εγλών, και εστρατοπέδευσαν κατέναντι αυτής και επολέμουν αυτήν·
35 and captured it on the same day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and, all the souls that were therein, on that day, devoted he to destruction, —according to all that he had done to Lachish.
και εκυρίευσαν αυτήν εν τη ημέρα εκείνη, και επάταξαν αυτήν εν στόματι μαχαίρας· και εξωλόθρευσεν εν εκείνη τη ημέρα πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή, κατά πάντα όσα έκαμεν εις την Λαχείς.
36 And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, from Eglon unto Hebron, —and they fought against it;
Και ανέβη ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εξ Εγλών εις Χεβρών, και επολέμουν αυτήν·
37 and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, with all the souls that were therein—he left not a survivor, according to all that he had done to Eglon, —he devoted it to destruction, and all the souls that were therein.
και εκυρίευσαν αυτήν και επάταξαν εν στόματι μαχαίρας αυτήν και τον βασιλέα αυτής και πάσας τας πόλεις αυτής και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή· δεν αφήκεν υπόλοιπον· κατά πάντα όσα έκαμεν εις την Εγλών· και εξωλόθρευσεν αυτήν και πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή.
38 Then Joshua turned back, and all Israel with him, unto Debir, —and fought against it;
Και έστρεψεν ο Ιησούς, και πας ο Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού· εις Δεβείρ και επολέμουν αυτήν·
39 and captured it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and devoted to destruction every soul that was therein, he left not a survivor, —as he had done unto Hebron, so, did he unto Debir, and unto the king thereof, as also he had done unto Libnah, and unto her king.
και εκυρίευσεν αυτήν και τον βασιλέα αυτής και πάσας τας πόλεις αυτής· και επάταξαν αυτούς εν στόματι μαχαίρας και εξωλόθρευσαν πάσας τας ψυχάς τας εν αυτή, δεν αφήκεν υπόλοιπον· καθώς έκαμεν εις την Χεβρών, ούτως έκαμεν εις την Δεβείρ και εις τον βασιλέα αυτής· και καθώς έκαμεν εις την Λιβνά και εις τον βασιλέα αυτής.
40 So Joshua smote all the land—the hill country, and the south, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings, he left not a survivor, —but, every breathing thing, devoted he to destruction, as Yahweh, God of Israel, had commanded.
Ούτως επάταξεν ο Ιησούς πάσαν την γην την ορεινήν και την μεσημβρινήν και την πεδινήν και την Ασδώθ και πάντας τους βασιλείς αυτών· δεν αφήκεν υπόλοιπον, αλλ' εξωλόθρευσε παν το έχον πνοήν, καθώς προσέταξε Κύριος ο Θεός του Ισραήλ.
41 Yea Joshua smote them, from Kadesh-barnea, even as far as Gaza, —and all the land of Goshen, even as far as Gibeon.
Και επάταξεν αυτούς ο Ιησούς από Κάδης-βαρνή έως Γάζης, και πάσαν την γην Γεσέν, έως Γαβαών.
42 Yea, all these kings and their land, did Joshua capture at one time, —because, Yahweh, God of Israel, fought for Israel.
Και πάντας τούτους τους βασιλείς και την γην αυτών ο Ιησούς εκυρίευσε διά μιας, διότι Κύριος ο Θεός του Ισραήλ επολέμει υπέρ του Ισραήλ.
43 And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp at Gilgal.
Και επέστρεψεν ο Ιησούς, και πας Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού, εις το στρατόπεδον εις Γάλγαλα.
