John 11
1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and Martha her sister.
Volt pedig egy beteg ember, Lázár, Bethániából, Máriának és az ő testvérének, Mártának falujából.
2 And Mary was she who anointed the Lord with perfume, and wiped his feet with her hair—whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Az a Mária volt az, aki megkente az Urat kenettel, és a hajával törölte meg annak lábait: az ő testvére, Lázár volt beteg.
3 The sisters, therefore, sent out unto him, saying—Lord, see! he whom thou tenderly lovest, is sick.
Testvérei tehát hozzá küldtek, s ezt üzenték: „Uram, íme, akit szeretsz, beteg.“
4 But Jesus hearing, said—This sickness, is not unto death, but for the glory of God, —that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.
Jézus pedig, amikor ezt meghallotta, ezt mondta: „Ez a betegség nem halálos, hanem az Isten dicsőségére való, hogy dicsőíttessék általa az Istennek Fia.“
5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
Jézus pedig szerette Mártát és annak nővérét és Lázárt.
6 When, therefore, he heard that he was sick, then, indeed, he abode in the place where he was, two days.
Mikor tehát meghallotta, hogy beteg, akkor két napig maradt azon a helyen, ahol volt,
7 Then, after this, he saith unto the disciples—Let us be leading on into Judaea, again.
de azután ezt mondta tanítványainak: „Menjünk ismét Júdeába.“
8 The disciples say unto him—Rabbi! just now, were the Jews seeking to stone thee—and, again, goest thou thither?
A tanítványok ezt mondták neki: „Mester, most akartak téged megkövezni a júdabeliek, és újra odamégy?“
9 Jesus answered—Are there not, twelve hours, in the day? If one walk in the day, he doth no stumble, because, the light of this world, he seeth;
Jézus így felelt: „Vagy nem tizenkét órája van-e a napnak? Ha valaki nappal jár, nem botlik meg, mert látja a világnak világosságát.
10 But, if one walk in the night, he stumbleth, because, the light, is not in him.
De aki éjjel jár, megbotlik, mert nincsen abban világosság.“
11 These things, he said, and, after this, he saith unto them—Lazarus, our dear friend, hath fallen asleep; but I am going, that I may awake him.
Ezeket mondta nekik, és hozzátette: „Lázár, a mi barátunk, elaludt, de elmegyek, hogy felköltsem őt.“
12 The disciples, therefore, said unto him—Lord! if he have fallen asleep, he will recover.
A tanítványai azt mondták erre: „Uram, ha elaludt, meggyógyul.“
13 But Jesus had spoken concerning his death; whereas, they, supposed that, concerning the taking of rest in sleep, he had been speaking.
Pedig Jézus a haláláról beszélt, de ők azt hitték, hogy álomba merülésről szól.
14 Jesus, therefore, then, said unto them, plainly, —Lazarus, died;
Ekkor aztán Jézus nyíltan megmondta nekik: „Lázár meghalt,
15 and I rejoice, for your sake—that ye may believe, —that I was not there; but let us be going unto him.
és örülök, hogy nem voltam ott, tiértetek, hogy higgyetek. De menjünk el őhozzá!“
16 Thomas, therefore, the one called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples—Let, us also, be going, that we may die with him.
Tamás, akit Ikernek hívtak, azt mondta tanítványtársainak: „Menjünk el mi is, hogy meghaljunk vele.“
17 Jesus, therefore, coming, found that, four days already, had he been in the tomb.
Jézus pedig elment, és úgy találta, hogy Lázár már négy napja van a sírban.
18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;
Betánia pedig közel volt Jeruzsálemhez, mintegy tizenöt futamnyira,
19 and, many from among the Jews, had come unto Martha and Mary, that they might console them concerning their brother.
ezért a zsidók közül sokan mentek Mártához és Máriához, hogy vigasztalják őket az ő testvérük miatt.
20 Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet him; but, Mary, in the house, remained sitting.
Márta, amint meghallotta, hogy Jézus jön, elébe ment, Mária pedig otthon ült.
21 Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;
Márta ekkor ezt mondta Jézusnak: „Uram, ha itt lettél volna, nem halt volna meg a testvérem.
22 And, now, I know, that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God, will give unto thee.
De most is tudom, hogy amit csak kérsz az Istentől, megadja neked az Isten.“
23 Jesus saith unto her—Thy brother shall rise.
Jézus ezt mondta neki: „Feltámad a testvéred.“
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise, in the resurrection, in the last day.
Márta ezt mondta neki: „Tudom, hogy feltámad a feltámadáskor, az utolsó napon.“
25 Jesus said unto her—I, am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, even though he die, shall live again!
Jézus ezt mondta neki: „Én vagyok a feltámadás és az élet: aki hisz énbennem, ha meghal is, él,
26 And, no one who liveth again and believeth on me, shall in anywise die, unto times age-abiding. Believest thou this? (aiōn g165)
és aki él és hisz énbennem, soha meg nem hal. Hiszed-e ezt?“ (aiōn g165)
27 She saith unto him—Yea, Lord! I, have believed, that, thou, art the Christ, the Son of God, —He who, into the world, should come.
Márta így felelt: „Igen, Uram, én hiszem, hogy te vagy a Krisztus, az Istennek Fia, aki e világra jövendő.“
28 And this saying, she went away, and called Mary her sister, secretly, saying—The teacher, is present, and calleth thee.
Amint ezeket mondta, elment, és titkon szólította az ő testvérét, Máriát, mondván: „A Mester itt van, és hív téged.“
29 And, she, when she heard, was roused up quickly, and was coming unto him.
Mihelyt ez meghallotta, felkelt hamar, és hozzáment.
30 Not yet, however, had Jesus come into the village, but was still in the place where, Martha, met him.
Jézus pedig nem ment még be a faluba, hanem azon a helyen volt, ahová Márta elébe ment.
31 The Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house and consoling her, seeing Mary, that quickly she arose and went out, followed her, supposing that she was withdrawing unto the tomb, that she might weep there.
A zsidók azért, akik ővele otthon voltak, és vigasztalták őt, látva, hogy Mária hamar felkelt és kiment, utánamentek, ezt mondva: „A sírhoz megy, hogy ott sírjon.“
32 Mary, therefore, when she came where Jesus was, seeing him, fell at his feet, saying unto him—Lord! if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
Mária pedig, amint odaért, ahol Jézus volt, meglátva őt, a lábaihoz esett, ezt mondva neki: „Uram, ha itt lettél volna, nem halt volna meg az én testvérem.“
33 Jesus, therefore, when he saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, was indignant in the spirit, and troubled himself,
Jézus pedig, amint látta, hogy sír, és sírnak a vele jött zsidók is, elbúsult lelkében, és igen megrendült.
34 and said—Where have ye laid him? They say unto him—Lord! come and see.
És mondta: „Hová helyeztétek őt?“Mondták neki: „Uram, gyere, és lásd meg!“
35 Jesus wept.
Könnyekre fakadt Jézus.
36 The Jews, therefore, were saying—See! how tenderly he loved him!
Mondták azért a zsidók: „Íme, mennyire szerette őt!“
37 But, some from among them, said—Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that, this one also, should not have died?
Némelyek pedig ezt mondták közülük: „Ő, aki a vaknak szemét felnyitotta, nem tehette volna-e meg, hogy ez ne haljon meg?“
38 Jesus, therefore, again, being indignant within himself, cometh unto the tomb. Now it was a cave, and, a stone, was lying thereon.
Jézus pedig újra felindulva magában, odament a sírhoz. Az pedig egy üreg volt, és kő feküdt rajta.
39 Jesus, saith, Take ye away the stone! Martha, the sister of the deceased, saith unto him—Lord! by this time, he stinketh, for it is, four days.
Jézus ezt mondta: „Vegyétek el a követ.“A megholtnak nőtestvére, Márta ezt mondta neki: „Uram, immár szaga van, hiszen negyednapos.“
40 Jesus saith unto her—Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?
Jézus ezt mondta neki: „Nem mondtam neked, hogy ha hiszel, meglátod majd az Istennek dicsőségét?“
41 So they took away the stone. And, Jesus, lifted up his eyes on high, and said—Father! I thank thee, thou didst hear me:
Elvették azért a követ onnan, ahol a megholt feküdt. Jézus pedig felemelte szemeit az égre, és mondta: „Atyám, hálát adok neked, hogy meghallgattál engem.
42 I, indeed, knew that, always, unto me, thou dost hearken; but, for the sake of the multitude standing around, I spake, —that they might believe that, thou, didst send me forth.
Tudtam is, hogy te mindenkor meghallgatsz engem, csak a körülálló sokaság miatt mondtam, hogy elhiggyék, hogy te küldtél engem.“
43 And, these things, having said, with a loud voice, he cried out—Lazarus! Come forth!
És mikor ezeket mondta, fennhangon kiáltott: „Lázár, jöjj ki!“
44 He that was dead came forth, bound feet and hands with bandages, and, his face, with a napkin, was bound about. Jesus saith unto them—Loose him, and let him go.
És kijött a megholt, lábain és kezein kötelékekkel megkötözve, és az orcája kendővel volt leborítva. Mondta nekik Jézus: „Oldozzátok el, és hagyjátok elmenni.“
45 Many therefore from among the Jews, who had come unto Mary, and gazed on what he did, believed on him
Sokan hittek őbenne azok közül a zsidók közül, akik Máriához mentek, és látták, amiket cselekedett.
46 but, certain from among them, went away unto the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
De némelyek azok közül elmentek a farizeusokhoz, és elbeszélték nekik, amiket Jézus cselekedett.
47 The High-priests and Pharisees, therefore, brought together a high-council, and were saying—What are we to do, in that, this man, doeth, many signs?
Egybegyűjtötték azért a papi fejedelmek és a farizeusok a főtanácsot, és mondták: „Mit cselekedjünk? Mert ez az ember sok csodát művel.
48 If we let him alone thus, all, will believe on him, and the Romans will come, and take away, both our place and nation.
Ha ekképpen hagyjuk őt, mindenki hinni fog ő benne: és eljönnek majd a rómaiak, és elveszik tőlünk mind a helyet is, mind a népet is.“
49 But, a certain one from among them, Caiaphas, being, High-priest, for that year, said unto them—Ye, know, nothing at all;
Egy pedig közülük, Kajafás, aki főpap volt abban az esztendőben, mondta nekik: „Ti semmit sem tudtok.
50 nor do ye take into account, that it is profitable for you that, one man, should die for the people, and not, the whole nation, perish.
Még arra sem gondoltok, hogy jobb nékünk, hogy egy ember haljon meg a népért, és ne az egész nép vesszen el.“
51 This, however, from himself, he spake not, but, being, High-priest, for that year, he prophesied, that Jesus was about to die for the nation;
Ezt pedig nem magától mondta: hanem mivel abban az esztendőben főpap volt, jövendőt mondott, hogy Jézus meg fog halni a népért,
52 and, not for the nation only, but that, the scattered children of God also, he might gather together into one.
és nemcsak a népért, hanem azért is, hogy az Istennek elszéledt gyermekeit egybegyűjtse.
53 From that day, therefore, they took counsel, that they might put him to death.
Ama naptól azért azon tanakodtak, hogy őt megöljék.
54 Jesus, therefore, no longer openly, was walking among the Jews, but departed thence, into the country near the desert, unto a city called, Ephraim; and, there, abode, with his disciples.
Jézus tehát nem járt többé nyilvánosan a zsidók között, hanem elment onnan a vidékre, a pusztához közel, egy Efraim nevű városba, és ott tartózkodott az ő tanítványaival.
55 Now the passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went up unto Jerusalem, out of the country, before the passover, that they might purify themselves.
Közel volt pedig a zsidók húsvétja: vidékről sokan mentek fel Jeruzsálembe húsvét előtt, hogy megtisztuljanak.
56 They were therefore seeking Jesus, and were saying one to another, in the temple, standing—How seemeth it unto you? that he will in nowise come unto the feast?
A templomban állva keresték Jézust, és így szóltak egymáshoz: „Mit gondoltok, hogy nem jön-e fel az ünnepre?“
57 Now the High-priests and the Pharisees had given commands, that, if anyone came to know where he was, he should inform [them], so that they might seize him.
A papi fejedelmek pedig és a farizeusok is parancsot adtak, hogy ha valaki megtudja, hogy hol van, jelentse, hogy megfogják.
