Jeremiah 29
1 Now these, are the, words of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem, —unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and unto the priests and unto the prophets and unto all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
Et ce sont ici les termes de la lettre qu'envoya Jérémie, le prophète, de Jérusalem au reste des Anciens d'entre les captifs, et aux sacrificateurs, et aux prophètes, et à tout le peuple qu'avait transporté Nébucadnézar de Jérusalem à Babel,
2 after that Jeconiah the king and the queen-mother and the eunuchs the princes of Judah and Jerusalem and the craftsmen and the smiths, had gone forth from Jerusalem; —
après que furent sortis de Jérusalem le roi Jéchonias, et la reine, et les eunuques, les princes de Juda et de Jérusalem, et les charpentiers et les serruriers,
3 by the hand of Elasah son of Shaphan and Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying: —
par l'entremise d'Éléasa, fils de Schaphan, et de Gémaria, fils d'Hilkia, que Sédécias, roi de Juda, envoyait à Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel. Elle portait:
4 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Unto all the captivity whom I have suffered to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des années, Dieu d'Israël, à tous les déportés que J'ai déportés de Jérusalem à Babel:
5 Build ye houses and dwell in them, —And plant ye gardens and eat the fruit thereof;
Bâtissez des maisons, et habitez-les, et plantez des jardins et mangez-en les fruits;
6 Take ye wives and beget sons and daughters, And take wives, for your sons, and, your daughters, give ye to husbands, That they may bear sons and daughters, —And so become ye many there and do not become few;
mariez-vous et ayez des fils et des filles, et prenez des femmes pour vos fils, et donnez vos filles à des maris pour qu'elles enfantent des fils et des filles, et multipliez-vous là; et ne diminuez pas.
7 And seek the welfare of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray for her unto Yahweh, —For in her welfare, shall ye have welfare.
Et cherchez le bien-être de la ville où je vous ai déportés, et pour elle priez l'Éternel, car dans son bien-être sera votre bien-être.
8 For Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, Let not your prophets that are in your midst nor your diviners beguile you, —Neither hearken ye unto your dreams which ye are dreaming;
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Ne vous laissez pas abuser par vos prophètes qui sont au milieu de vous, ni par vos devins, et n'écoutez pas les songes que vous songez;
9 For falsely, are they prophesying unto you in my name, —I have not sent them, Declareth Yahweh.
car c'est le mensonge qu'ils vous prophétisent en mon nom; je ne les ai point envoyés, dit l'Éternel.
10 For, thus, saith Yahweh, —That as soon as there are fulfilled to Babylon seventy years, I will visit you, —and establish for you my good word, by causing you to return unto this place.
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Dès que soixante-dix ans seront révolus pour Babel, je vous visiterai, et j'accomplirai sur vous mes excellentes promesses, en vous ramenant dans ce lieu.
11 For, I, know the plans which I am planning for you Declareth Yahweh, —Plans of welfare and not of calamity, To give you a future and a hope.
Car moi, je connais les pensées que j'ai à votre égard, dit l'Éternel, pensées qui ont pour but de sauver et non point de nuire, et tendent à vous donner un avenir et une espérance.
12 So shall ye call upon me, —And go and pray unto me, —And I will hearken unto you;
Et vous m'invoquerez, et vous vous en irez [satisfaits]; et vous me prierez, et je vous exaucerai;
13 So shall ye seek me and find, For ye will enquire after me with all your heart;
et vous me chercherez et vous me trouverez; car vous vous tournerez vers moi de tout votre cœur;
14 And I will be found of you, Declareth Yahweh, And will turn back your captivity, And will gather you out of all the nations and out of all the places whither I have driven you, Declareth Yahweh, And will bring you back into the place whence I had caused you to be carried away captive:
et je me laisserai trouver par vous, dit l'Éternel; et je ramènerai vos captifs et je vous recueillerai d'entre tous les peuples et de tous les lieux où je vous ai dispersés, dit l'Éternel, et je vous ramènerai en ce lieu d'où je vous ai emmenés;
15 Because ye have said, —Yahweh hath raised us up prophets in Babylon.
parce que vous dites: Dieu nous a suscité des prophètes à Babel.
16 For, thus, saith Yahweh Against the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and Against all the people who are remaining in this city, —your brethren who have not gone forth with you into captivity:
Car ainsi prononce l'Éternel sur le roi assis au trône de David, et sur tout le peuple habitant cette ville, sur vos frères qui n'allèrent point avec vous en captivité, ainsi prononce l'Éternel des armées:
17 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! sending upon them sword famine, and pestilence, —So will I make them like the horrid figs, that cannot be eaten for badness;
Voici, j'envoie contre eux l'épée, la famine et la peste, et je les rendrai pareils à ces figues hideuses qu'on ne mange pas, tant elles sont mauvaises;
18 Therefore will I pursue them with sword with famine and with pestilence, —And will make them a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth A curse and an astonishment and a hissing and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them:
et je les poursuivrai de l'épée, de la famine et de la peste, et je les exposerai aux avanies de tous les royaumes de la terre, à l'exécration, et à la désolation, et à la dérision, et à l'opprobre, parmi tous les peuples où je les disséminerai,
19 Because they hearkened not unto my words Declareth Yahweh, —which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, betimes, sending them yet hearkened they not Declareth Yahweh.
parce qu'ils n'ont pas écouté ma parole, dit l'Éternel, quand Je leur envoyai mes serviteurs, les prophètes, dès le matin, et que vous n'avez point écouté, dit l'Éternel.
20 Ye, therefore, hear ye the word of Yahweh, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Mais vous, écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, vous tous les captifs que j'ai envoyés de Jérusalem à Babel.
21 Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel Concerning Ahab son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you in my name, a falsehood, Behold me! delivering them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he will smite them before your eyes:
Ainsi prononce l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël, touchant Achab, fils de Colaïa, et sur Sédécias, fils de Mahaséïa, qui vous prophétisent en mon nom le mensonge: Voici, je les livre aux mains de Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel, afin qu'il les frappe sous vos yeux:
22 So shall there be taken up—from them—a curse, by all of the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon saying, —Yahweh make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, Whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire!
et ils fourniront une imprécation à tous les captifs de Juda qui sont à Babel et qui diront: « Que l'Éternel te traite comme Sédécias et comme Achab, qu'a fait rôtir au feu Nébucadnézar, roi de Babel! »
23 Because they have committed vileness in Israel And have committed adultery with the wives of their neighbours, And have spoken as a word in my name a falsehood, which I commanded them not, —And, I, am one who knoweth—and a witness Declareth Yahweh.
parce qu'ils ont fait des abominations en Israël, et commis adultère avec les femmes de leurs prochains, et qu'ils se sont servis de mon nom pour mentir; ce que je ne leur avais point commandé. Mais moi, je le sais, et j'en suis témoin, dit l'Éternel.
24 Also unto Shemaiah the Nehelamite, shalt thou speak, saying:
Et tu parleras à Sémaïa de Néchélam, en ces termes:
25 Thus, speaketh Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, saying, —Because, thou, hast sent in, thine own name, letters, unto all the people who are in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son, of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests saying:
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Parce que tu as adressé en ton nom une lettre à tout le peuple à Jérusalem, et à Sophonie, fils de Mahaséïa, le sacrificateur, et à tous les sacrificateurs, ainsi conçue:
26 Yahweh, hath made thee priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should be deputies in the house of Yahweh, to any man who is raving and prophesying, so shalt thou put him into the stocks and into the pillory:
L'Éternel t'a établi sacrificateur en remplacement de Jéhojadah, le sacrificateur, pour qu'il y ait dans la maison de l'Éternel des inspecteurs, qui s'opposent à tous les fanatiques et à ceux qui prophétisent, et que tu les mettes en prison et aux fers;
27 Now, therefore, why, hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who is prophesying unto you?
et maintenant, pourquoi n'as-tu pas réprimé Jérémie d'Anathoth, qui vous prophétise?
28 For, on this account, hath he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, —’Tis, long! Build ye houses and dwell in them, And plant gardens and eat the fruit thereof.
Car c'est pour cela qu'il nous a écrit à Babel en ces mots: Ceci sera long! bâtissez des maisons, et habitez-les, et plantez des jardins, et mangez-en les fruits. –
29 And Zephaniah the priest hath read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet,
Et Sophonie, le sacrificateur, lut cette lettre devant Jérémie, le prophète.
30 Therefore hath the word of Yahweh come unto Jeremiah, saying:
Et la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Jérémie, en ces mots:
31 Send thou unto all them of the captivity, saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, Concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, —Because Shemaiah, hath prophesied to you, when, I, had not sent him, And hath caused you to trust in falsehood,
Écris à tous les captifs en ces termes: Ainsi prononce l'Éternel sur Sémaïa de Néchélam: Parce que Sémaïa vous prophétise sans mission de ma part, et qu'il est cause que vous vous fiez au mensonge,
32 Therefore Thus, saith Yahweh, —Behold me! bringing punishment upon Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and upon his seed, He shall have no man to dwell in the midst of this people, Nor shall he see the good that I am about to do for my people, Declareth Yahweh; Because revolt, hath he spoken against Yahweh.
c'est pourquoi l'Éternel parle ainsi: Voici, je vais châtier Sémaïa de Néchélam, et sa race: il n'en demeurera aucun homme parmi ce peuple, et il ne verra point le bien que je ferai à mon peuple, dit l'Éternel, car il a prêché la révolte contre l'Éternel.
