Isaiah 37
1 And it came to pass, when King Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, —and covered himself with sackcloth, and entered the house of Yahweh;
Und es geschah, als der König Hiskia es hörte, da zerriß er seine Kleider und hüllte sich in Sacktuch und ging in das Haus Jehovas.
2 and sent Eliakim who was over the household and Shebna the scribe and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, —unto Isaiah the prophet, Son of Amoz;
Und er sandte Eljakim, der über das Haus war, und Schebna, den Schreiber, und die Ältesten der Priester, in Sacktuch gehüllt zu dem Propheten Jesaja, dem Sohne Amoz.
3 and they said unto him, Thus, saith Hezekiah, A day of distress and rebuke and reviling, is this day, —For children are come to the birth, and, strength, is there none to bring forth.
Und sie sprachen zu ihm: So spricht Hiskia: Dieser Tag ist ein Tag der Bedrängnis und der Züchtigung und der Schmähung; denn die Kinder sind bis an die Geburt gekommen, aber da ist keine Kraft zum Gebären.
4 It may be, that Yahweh thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria his lord, hath sent to reproach a Living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh thy God hath heard, —Wherefore lift thou up a prayer, for the remnant that remaineth.
Vielleicht wird Jehova, dein Gott, die Worte des Rabsake hören, welchen sein Herr, der König von Assyrien, gesandt hat, [O. womit ihn gesandt hat] um den lebendigen Gott zu verhöhnen, und wird die Worte bestrafen, [O. wegen der Worte strafen] die Jehova, dein Gott, gehört hat. Erhebe denn ein Gebet für den Überrest, der sich noch vorfindet.
5 So the servants of King Hezekiah came unto Isaiah.
Und die Knechte des Königs Hiskia kamen zu Jesaja.
6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus, shall ye, surely say, unto your lord, —Thus, saith Yahweh—Be not thou afraid because of the words which thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled, Me.
Und Jesaja sprach zu ihnen: Also sollt ihr zu eurem Herrn sagen: So spricht Jehova: Fürchte dich nicht vor den Worten, die du gehört hast, womit die Diener [Eig. die Knappen] des Königs von Assyrien mich gelästert haben.
7 Behold me! about to let go against him a blast of alarm, and when he heareth the report, then will he return to his own country, —and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Siehe, ich will ihm einen Geist eingeben, daß er ein Gerücht hören und in sein Land zurückkehren wird; [S. die Anm. zu 2. Kön. 19,7] und ich will ihn durchs Schwert fällen in seinem Lande.
8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria, warring against Libnah, —for he had heard, that he had broken up from Lachish.
Und der Rabsake kehrte zurück und fand den König von Assyrien streitend wider Libna; denn er hatte gehört, daß er von Lachis aufgebrochen wäre.
9 And he heard it reported concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, saying, He hath come forth to fight with thee, —so when he heard it, he sent messengers unto Hezekiah, saying:
Und er hörte von Tirhaka, dem König von Äthiopien, sagen: Er ist ausgezogen, um wider dich zu streiten. Und als er es hörte, sandte er Boten zu Hiskia und sprach:
10 Thus, shall ye surely speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom, thou, art trusting, beguile thee, saying, —Jerusalem, shall not be given over, into the hand of the king of Assyria.
So sollt ihr zu Hiskia, dem Könige von Juda, sprechen und sagen: Daß dich nicht täusche dein Gott, auf den du vertraust, indem du sprichst: Jerusalem wird nicht in die Hand des Königs von Assyrien gegeben werden!
11 Lo! thou, thyself, hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the lands in devoting them to destruction, —and shalt, thou, be delivered?
Siehe, du hast gehört, was die Könige von Assyrien allen Ländern getan haben, indem sie sie vertilgten; und du solltest errettet werden?
12 Did the gods of the nations, deliver them, whom my fathers destroyed, —Gozan, and Haran, —and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who were in Telassar?
Haben die Götter der Nationen, welche meine Väter vernichtet haben, sie errettet: Gosan und Haran und Rezeph und die Kinder Edens, die in Telassar waren?
13 Where are the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, —of Hena, and Ivvah?
Wo ist der König von Hamath und der König von Arpad und der König der Stadt Sepharwaim, von Hena und Iwa?
14 And, when Hezekiah had received the letter at the hand of the messengers, and had read it, then went he up to the house of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spread it out, before Yahweh.
Und Hiskia nahm den Brief aus der Hand der Boten und las ihn; und er ging hinauf in das Haus Jehovas, und Hiskia breitete ihn vor Jehova aus.
15 And Hezekiah prayed unto Yahweh saying:
Und Hiskia betete zu Jehova und sprach:
16 O Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel—inhabiting the cherubim, Thou thyself, art GOD, even thou alone, for all the kingdoms of the earth: Thou, didst make the heavens and the earth.
Jehova der Heerscharen, Gott Israels, der du zwischen [O. über] den Cherubim thronst, du allein bist es, der der Gott ist von allen Königreichen der Erde; du hast den Himmel und die Erde gemacht.
17 Bow down, O Yahweh, thine ear—and hear, Open, O Yahweh, thine eyes—and see, —Yea hear thou all the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent—to reproach a Living God.
Jehova, neige dein Ohr und höre! Jehova, tue deine Augen auf und sieh! Ja, höre alle die Worte Sanheribs, der gesandt hat, um den lebendigen Gott zu verhöhnen!
18 Of a truth, O Yahweh, —the kings of Assyria have devoted to destruction all the countries, and their land;
Wahrlich, Jehova, die Könige von Assyrien haben alle Nationen [Im hebr. Texte steht: Länder; vergl. 2. Kön. 19,17] und ihr Land verwüstet;
19 and have put their gods in the fire, —for, no-gods, were they, but the work of the hands of men wood and stone and so they destroyed them.
und sie haben ihre Götter ins Feuer geworfen, denn sie waren nicht Götter, sondern ein Werk von Menschenhänden, Holz und Stein, und sie haben sie zerstört.
20 Now, therefore, O Yahweh our God, save us, out of his hand, —That all the kingdoms of the earth, may know, That, thou, art Yahweh, thou alone.
Und nun, Jehova, unser Gott, rette uns von seiner Hand, damit alle Königreiche der Erde wissen, daß du allein Jehova bist!
21 Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah saying, —Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, In that thou hast prayed unto me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria,
Da sandte Jesaja, der Sohn Amoz, zu Hiskia und ließ ihm sagen: So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Was du zu mir gebetet hast wegen Sanheribs, des Königs von Assyrien-
22 this, is the word which Yahweh hath spoken concerning him, —The virgin daughter of Zion, laugheth thee to scorn—mocketh thee, The daughter of Jerusalem after thee doth wag her head,
dies ist das Wort, welches Jehova über ihn geredet hat: Es verachtet dich, es spottet deiner die Jungfrau, die Tochter [Eig. die jungfräuliche [d. h. unbesiegte] Tochter] Zion; die Tochter Jerusalem schüttelt das Haupt dir nach.
23 Whom, hast thou reproached and insulted? And, against whom, hast thou lifted high thy voice? Yea thou hast proudly raised thine eyes, against the Holy One of Israel.
Wen hast du verhöhnt und gelästert, und gegen wen die Stimme erhoben? Gegen den Heiligen Israels hast du deine Augen emporgerichtet!
24 Through thy servants, thou hast reproached My Lord and hast said, —With my multitude of chariots, have I ascended The height of the mountains The recesses of Lebanon, That I may cut down Its tallest cedars Its choicest firs, That I may enter Its highest summit, Its thick garden forest:
Durch deine Knechte hast du den Herrn verhöhnt und hast gesprochen: "Mit meiner Wagen Menge habe ich die Höhen der Berge erstiegen, das äußerste Ende des Libanon; und ich werde umhauen den Hochwuchs seiner Cedern, die Auswahl seiner Cypressen, und ich werde kommen auf seine äußerste Höhe, in seinen Gartenwald.
25 I, have digged, and drunk waters, —That I may dry up, with the soles of my feet, all the Nile-streams of Egypt.
Ich habe gegraben und Wasser getrunken; und mit der Sohle meiner Füße werde ich austrocknen alle Ströme [Stehende Bezeichnung für die Kanäle und Arme des Nil] Mazors." [S. die Anm. zu Kap. 19,6]
26 Hast thou not heard—That, long ago, that, is what I appointed, And from days of old, devised? Now, have I brought it to pass, That thou mightest Serve to lay waste, in desolate ruins, fortified cities;
Hast du nicht gehört, daß ich von fernher es gewirkt und von den Tagen der Vorzeit her es gebildet habe? Nun habe ich es kommen lassen, daß du feste Städte verwüstest zu öden Steinhaufen.
27 And their inhabitants, being powerless, were overthrown and put to shame—They became—Grass of the field and Young herbage, Grass on housetops, and Seed parched before it came up.
Und ihre Bewohner waren machtlos, sie wurden bestürzt und beschämt; sie waren wie Kraut des Feldes und grünes Gras, wie Gras der Dächer, und Korn, das verbrannt ist, [Hier steht im hebr. Texte: und ein Getreidefeld; doch vergl. 2. Kön. 19,26] ehe es aufschießt.
28 Howbeit, thine abode and thy coming out and thy going in, I know, —and thy raging against me.
Und ich kenne dein Sitzen, und dein Aus- und dein Eingehen, und dein Toben wider mich.
29 Because, thy raging against me, and thy contempt, have come up into mine ears, Therefore will I put My ring in thy nose, and My bit in thy lips, And will turn thee back, by the way by which thou camest.
Wegen deines Tobens wider mich, und weil dein Übermut in meine Ohren heraufgekommen ist, werde ich meinen Ring in deine Nase legen und mein Gebiß in deine Lippen, und werde dich zurückführen auf dem Wege, auf welchem du gekommen bist.
30 And, this unto thee, is the sign, Eating this year, the growth of scattered seeds, And in the second year, that which shooteth up of itself, —Then in the third year, Sow ye—and reap, and Plant ye vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.
Und dies soll dir das Zeichen sein: Man wird in diesem Jahre den Nachwuchs der Ernte essen, und im zweiten Jahre was ausgesproßt ist; und im dritten Jahre säet und erntet, und pflanzet Weinberge und esset ihre Frucht.
31 Then shall the escaped of the house of Judah that remain, again, Take root downward, —And bear fruit upward.
Und das Entronnene vom Hause Juda, das übriggeblieben ist, wird wieder wurzeln nach unten und Frucht tragen nach oben.
32 For, out of Jerusalem, shall come forth a remnant, And that which hath escaped, out of Mount Zion, —the jealousy of Yahweh of hosts, will perform, this.
Denn von Jerusalem wird ein Überrest ausgehen, und ein Entronnenes vom Berge Zion. Der Eifer Jehovas der Heerscharen wird solches tun.
33 Therefore, thus, saith Yahweh, concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not enter this city, Nor shoot there, an arrow, —Nor attack it with shield, Nor cast up against it a mound:
Darum, so spricht Jehova von dem König von Assyrien: Er soll nicht in diese Stadt kommen, und er soll keinen Pfeil darein schießen und keinen Schild ihr zukehren, und er soll keinen Wall gegen sie aufschütten.
34 By the way that he Came in, By the Same, shall he return, —And into this city, shall he not enter, Declareth Yahweh.
Auf dem Wege, den er gekommen ist, auf dem soll er zurückkehren und soll in diese Stadt nicht kommen, spricht Jehova.
35 Thus will I throw a covering over this city to save it, —For mine own sake, And for the sake of David my servant.
Und ich will diese Stadt beschirmen, um sie zu retten, um meinet- und um Davids, meines Knechtes, willen.
36 Then went forth the messenger of Yahweh, and smote—in the camp of the Assyrians—a hundred and eighty-five thousand, —and when men arose early in the morning, lo! they were all, dead bodies!
Und ein Engel Jehovas zog aus und schlug in dem Lager der Assyrer 185000 Mann. Und als man des Morgens früh aufstand, siehe, da waren sie allesamt Leichname. [Eig. tote Leichname]
37 So Sennacherib the king of Assyria brake up, and went his way, and returned, —and remained in Nineveh.
Und Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, brach auf, und er zog fort und kehrte zurück und blieb in Ninive.
38 And it came to pass, as he was bowing down in the house of Nisroch his god, that, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons, smote him with the sword, howbeit, they, escaped into the land of Ararat, —and, Esarhaddon his son, reigned, in his stead.
Und es geschah, als er sich niederbeugte im Hause Nisroks, seines Gottes, da erschlugen ihn Adrammelek und Scharezer, seine Söhne, mit dem Schwerte; und sie entrannen [Eig. sie aber entrannen] in das Land Ararat. Und Esar-Haddon, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.
