Isaiah 26
1 In that day, shall be sung this song, in the land of Judah, —A strong city, have we! Salvation, will he set for walls and rampart,
An jenem Tage singt man dieses Lied im Judalande. "Wir haben eine feste Stadt, und Hilfe schaffen Mauern und das Bollwerk.
2 Open ye the gates, —That there may enter in—a righteous nation preserving fidelity.
Macht auf die Tore! Ein frommes, treuergebenes Volk zieht ein.
3 A purpose sustained, thou wilt guard, [saying], Prosper! Prosper! Because in thee, hath he been led to trust.
Die festgebaute Stadt machst Du zum Frieden, zum Frieden, weil sie sich auf Dich verläßt.
4 Trust ye in Yahweh, unto futurity, —For, in Yah, Yahweh, is a rock of ages.
Verlaßt euch immer auf den Herrn, ja, auf den Herrn! Der Herr ein Fels der Ewigkeit!
5 For he hath brought down the inhabitants of the height the city exalted, —He layeth it low, Layeth it low even to the ground, Levelleth it, even to the dust:
Zu Boden hat er die Hochthronenden geworfen, hinabgestürzt die hochgelegene Stadt, darnieder bis zur Erde und sie in den Staub gestoßen!
6 The foot trampleth it, —The feet of the lowly, The steps of the weak,
Dann sollen Füße drüber wandeln, die Füße Armer und geringer Leute Tritt! -
7 The path of a righteous man, is, even, —O Upright One! the track of a righteous man, thou makest level.
Den Frommen wird ein ebener Pfad zuteil; den Weg des Frommen ebnest Du, Gerechter.
8 Surely in the path of thy regulations, O Yahweh, we waited for thee, —Unto thy Name and unto thy Memorial, was there a longing of soul:
Wir hoffen, Herr; auf Dich vertraun wir, Herr, daß Du vollziehest Deine Strafen; nach Deinem Ruhme, Deinem Preis verlangt die Seele. -
9 With my soul, longed I for thee in the night, Yea with my spirit within me, I kept on searching for thee, —For, when thy regulations [extend] to the earth, The inhabitants of the world will have learned, righteousness.
Nach Dir verlangt es mich des Nachts. Nach Dir sehnt sich mein Geist in mir; wenn Deine Strafen träfen, dann lernten auch die Weltbewohner das, was recht. -
10 Let favour be shewed to the lawless, he hath not learned righteousness, In a land of honest dealings, he acteth perversely, —And seeth not the splendour of Yahweh.
Wird so ein Bösewicht begnadigt, dann lernt er nie das Rechte. Im Land, wo Recht und Tugend herrschen, verübt er nur Verkehrtes, und nicht beachtet er des Herren Herrscherhoheit. -
11 O Yahweh though thy hand be lifted up, —yet do they not see, Would they might see—and turn pale at a people’s zeal, —Surely, the fire of thine enemies, must consume them!
Herr! Hocherhoben ist Dein Arm; sie schauen nicht darauf. So sollen sie voll Scham nur schauen den Eifer für das Volk, wenn Feuer Deine Feinde fressen wird!
12 O Yahweh, thou wilt ensure prosperity for us, —For even all our works, hast thou wrought for us,
Du wirst uns Heil verschaffen, Herr. Denn alles, was uns traf, hast Du an uns getan.
13 O Yahweh, our God! Lords other than thee, have owned us, —By thyself alone, will we call upon thy Name.
Herr, unser Gott! Uns meistern andere Herrn als Du; doch rühmen möchten wir nur Dich allein.
14 The dead, come not to life again, The shades, do not arise, —Therefore, thou hast visited and destroyed them, And caused to perish every memorial of them.
Sie sollen sterben, ohne wieder aufzuleben; sie seien Gespenster, ohne wieder aufzustehen! Drum strafe sie, vertilge sie, und ihr Gedächtnis lösche aus!
15 Thou hast increased the nation, O Yahweh, Thou hast increased the nation thou hast gotten thyself glory, Thou hast extended far, all the ends of the land.
Herr! Nimm ein Heidenvolk, ein Heidenvolk ums andre vor, erwirb Dir Ruhm bis weithin zu der Erde Grenzen!
16 O Yahweh! in distress, they sought thee, —They poured out a whispered prayer, when thy chastening was upon them.
Da sollen sie Dich suchen, Herr, in ihrer Not, ergießen sich in der Beschwörung Deiner Züchtigung, die ihnen werden soll.
17 Like as a woman with child—Draweth near to giving birth, Is in pain, Crieth out in her pangs So, were we before thee, O Yahweh; —
Wie eine Mutter, der Entbindung nahe, sich windet und in ihren Wehen schreit, so sind wir, Herr, vor Dir.
18 We were with child—We were in pain, As it were we brought forth wind, —Salvation, we could not accomplish for the earth, Neither were born the inhabitants of the world.
Wir gehen schwanger, haben Wehen; wenn wir gebären, ist's nur Wind. Der Erde können wir kein Glück verschaffen, und Weltbewohner kommen nicht ans Licht.
19 Thy dead, shall come to life again, My dead body, they shall arise, —Awake and shout for joy, ye that dwell in the dust For, a dew of light, is thy dew, And, earth, to the shades shall give birth.
Doch Deine Toten mögen leben und meine Leichen auferstehen! Erwachet! Jubelt! Staubbewohner! Dein Tau ist ein heilsamer Tau, wenn Du ihn auf das Land der Schatten fallen lässest." -
20 Come my people, enter into thy chambers, And shut thy doors behind thee, —Hide thee as it were a little moment Till the indignation pass over.
Wohlan, mein Volk, geh nun in deine Kammern! Verschließe hinter dir die Tür! Verbirg dich eine kleine Weile, bis daß der Zorn vorübergeht!
21 For lo! Yahweh, is coming forth out of his place, To visit the iniquity of earth’s inhabitant upon him, —Therefore shall the earth unveil her shed-blood, And throw a covering, no longer over her slain.
Denn seht! Der Herr bricht schon von seinem Orte auf, die Missetat der Erdbewohner zu bestrafen. Die Erde deckt Blutströme auf, bedeckt nicht länger die auf ihr Erwürgten.
