Hosea 7
1 When I would have brought healing to Israel, then was disclosed the iniquity of Ephraim, and the wicked doings of Samaria, for they have wrought falsehood, —when, a thief, would enter, a band roamed about, outside,
Quand je voulus guérir Israël, alors se révélèrent le crime d'Éphraïm et les méfaits de Samarie. Car ils font des fraudes et les voleurs s'insinuent, et des bandes de pillards se répandent au dehors.
2 And they say not to their own hearts, that, all their wickedness, I remember, now, have their doings, beset them about, right before my face, have they been done.
Et ils ne se disent pas en leur cœur que de tous leurs crimes je garde la mémoire: or, leurs forfaits les entourent, ils sont présents à mes yeux.
3 By their wickedness, they gladden a king, and, by their flatteries, —rulers.
Par leur méchanceté ils font la joie du roi, et par leurs mensonges celle des princes.
4 They all, are adulterers, like an oven too hot for the baker, —who leaveth off stoking, after kneading the dough, till the whole be leavened.
Tous ils sont adultères, comme un four chauffé par le boulanger: il cesse de le chauffer depuis qu'il pétrit la pâte jusqu'à ce qu'elle fermente.
5 In the day of our king, the rulers, have made themselves ill, with the heat of wine, —he hath extended his hand with scoffers.
Au jour de notre roi les princes se rendent malades dans l'ardeur de l'ivresse; il tend la main aux moqueurs.
6 For they have made ready, like an oven, their heart, by their lying in wait, —all the night, their baker sleepeth, in the morning, he, kindleth up as it were a blazing fire.
Car leur cœur est comme un four, quand ils l'appliquent à leurs embûches; toute la nuit dort leur boulanger; le matin le four brûle comme un feu allumé.
7 They all, become hot as an oven, and devour their judges, —all their kings, have fallen, there hath been none among them crying unto me.
Tous ils sont ardents comme le four, et ils dévorent leurs juges; tous leurs rois tombent, aucun d'eux ne m'invoque!
8 As for Ephraim! with the peoples, hath he been mingling himself, —Ephraim, is a cake not turned.
Éphraïm aux peuples se mêle, Éphraïm est une galette qui n'est pas retournée;
9 Foreigners have, eaten up, his strength, and, he, knoweth it not, —even gray hairs, are sprinkled upon him, and, he, knoweth it not.
des étrangers consument sa force et il ne le sent pas; les cheveux blancs sont aussi semés sur sa tête, et il ne le sent pas.
10 Therefore doth the Excellency of Israel, answer, to his face; yet have they not returned unto Yahweh their God, nor have they sought him, in spite of all this!
Ainsi l'orgueil d'Israël, s'exprime sur son visage, cependant ils ne reviennent point à l'Éternel leur Dieu, et ne le cherchent point malgré tout cela.
11 So then, Ephraim, hath become, like a simple dove, having no understanding, on Egypt, have they called, to Assyria, have they gone,
Et Éphraïm est comme la colombe facile à tromper, sans intelligence, ils implorent l'Egypte, vont en Assyrie.
12 Whithersoever they go, I will spread over them my net, like a bird of the heavens, will I bring them down, I will chastise them, by the time the report can reach the flock of them.
Puisqu'ils y vont, j'étends sur eux mon filet, comme les oiseaux des Cieux je les précipite, les châtie comme je l'ai annoncé à leur assemblée!
13 Woe to them! for they have taken flight from me, destruction to them! for they have transgressed against me, —when, I, would have ransomed them, then, they, spake—concerning me—falsehoods.
Malheur à eux! car ils me fuient; ruine sur eux! car ils se rebellent contre moi. Moi je tente de les sauver, et eux ils se montrent menteurs pour moi;
14 Neither made they outcry unto me, in their heart, although they kept on howling upon their beds, over corn and new wine, they gathered themselves together, they rebelled against me.
ce n'est pas à moi qu'ils crient du fond de leur cœur, quand ils se lamentent sur leurs lits pour le blé et le moût; ils se détournent, s'éloignent de moi.
15 When, I, had warned them, I strengthened their arm, —yet, against me, kept they on devising wickedness.
Je formai, fortifiai leurs bras, et contre moi ils méditent le mal.
16 They would return—not to him who is on high! They have become like a deceitful bow, their rulers, shall fall by the sword, for the rage of their tongue, this, [shall be] their derision in the land of Egypt.
Ils se retournent, mais non pas vers les lieux très hauts; ils sont comme un arc trompeur; leurs princes périront par l'épée à cause des bravades de leur langue; c'est ce qui en fera la risée du pays d'Egypte.
