Hosea 7
1 When I would have brought healing to Israel, then was disclosed the iniquity of Ephraim, and the wicked doings of Samaria, for they have wrought falsehood, —when, a thief, would enter, a band roamed about, outside,
Quand j’ai voulu guérir Israël, alors s’est révélée l’iniquité d’Ephraïm, et la méchanceté de Samarie; car ils pratiquent le mensonge; le voleur pénètre dans la maison, le brigand se répand au dehors.
2 And they say not to their own hearts, that, all their wickedness, I remember, now, have their doings, beset them about, right before my face, have they been done.
Et ils ne disent pas en leurs cœurs que je me souviens de toute leur méchanceté. Maintenant leurs forfaits les entourent, ils sont là devant moi.
3 By their wickedness, they gladden a king, and, by their flatteries, —rulers.
Ils égaient le roi par leur méchanceté, et les princes par leurs mensonges.
4 They all, are adulterers, like an oven too hot for the baker, —who leaveth off stoking, after kneading the dough, till the whole be leavened.
Ils sont tous adultères, pareils à un four allumé par le boulanger, qui cesse d’attiser le feu, depuis qu’il a pétri la pâte jusqu’à ce qu’elle soit levée.
5 In the day of our king, the rulers, have made themselves ill, with the heat of wine, —he hath extended his hand with scoffers.
Au jour de notre roi, les princes se rendent malades par la chaleur du vin; il a étendu sa main avec les moqueurs.
6 For they have made ready, like an oven, their heart, by their lying in wait, —all the night, their baker sleepeth, in the morning, he, kindleth up as it were a blazing fire.
Car, dans leur complot, ils ont mis leurs cœurs comme dans un four. Leur boulanger a dormi toute la nuit; le matin, il a été embrasé comme une flamme ardente.
7 They all, become hot as an oven, and devour their judges, —all their kings, have fallen, there hath been none among them crying unto me.
Tous sont chauffés comme un four, et ils dévorent leurs juges. Tous leur rois sont tombés, sans qu’aucun d’eux ait crié vers moi.
8 As for Ephraim! with the peoples, hath he been mingling himself, —Ephraim, is a cake not turned.
Ephraïm se mêle avec les peuples; Ephraïm est un gâteau qu’on n’a pas retourné.
9 Foreigners have, eaten up, his strength, and, he, knoweth it not, —even gray hairs, are sprinkled upon him, and, he, knoweth it not.
Des étrangers ont dévoré sa force, et il ne le sait pas; des cheveux blancs parsèment sa tête, et il ne le sait pas.
10 Therefore doth the Excellency of Israel, answer, to his face; yet have they not returned unto Yahweh their God, nor have they sought him, in spite of all this!
L’orgueil d’Ephraïm témoigne contre lui; ils ne reviennent pas à Yahweh, leur Dieu, et ils ne le recherchent pas, malgré tout cela.
11 So then, Ephraim, hath become, like a simple dove, having no understanding, on Egypt, have they called, to Assyria, have they gone,
Ephraïm est devenu comme une colombe, simple et sans intelligence; ils invoquent l’Égypte, ils vont en Assyrie.
12 Whithersoever they go, I will spread over them my net, like a bird of the heavens, will I bring them down, I will chastise them, by the time the report can reach the flock of them.
Pendant qu’ils y vont, j’étends sur eux mon filet; je les ferai tomber comme les oiseaux du ciel, je les châtierai comme on l’a annoncé dans leur assemblée.
13 Woe to them! for they have taken flight from me, destruction to them! for they have transgressed against me, —when, I, would have ransomed them, then, they, spake—concerning me—falsehoods.
Malheur à eux, car ils ont fui loin de moi! Ruine sur eux, car ils m’ont été infidèles! Et moi, je voudrais les sauver; mais eux disent contre moi des mensonges.
14 Neither made they outcry unto me, in their heart, although they kept on howling upon their beds, over corn and new wine, they gathered themselves together, they rebelled against me.
Ils ne crient pas vers moi dans leur cœur, quand ils se lamentent sur leurs couches. Ils se tourmentent au sujet du froment et du vin nouveau, se détournant de moi.
15 When, I, had warned them, I strengthened their arm, —yet, against me, kept they on devising wickedness.
Moi, je les instruisais et je fortifiais leurs bras, et ils méditent le mal contre moi.
16 They would return—not to him who is on high! They have become like a deceitful bow, their rulers, shall fall by the sword, for the rage of their tongue, this, [shall be] their derision in the land of Egypt.
Ils se tournent, mais non pas en haut; ils sont comme un arc trompeur; leurs chefs tomberont par l’épée à cause de la fureur de leurs langues; et cela fera rire d’eux au pays d’Égypte.
