Genesis 42
1 Then saw Jacob that there was corn in Egypt, —and Jacob said to his sons, Wherefore look ye one at another?
Και είδεν ο Ιακώβ ότι ευρίσκετο σίτος εν Αιγύπτω· και είπεν ο Ιακώβ προς τους υιούς αυτού, Τι βλέπετε ο εις τον άλλον;
2 And he said, Lo I have heard that there is corn in Egypt, —Go down thither and buy corn for us from thence, that we may live and not die.
Και είπεν, Ιδού, ήκουσα ότι ευρίσκεται σίτος εν Αιγύπτω· κατάβητε εκεί και αγοράσατε δι' ημάς εκείθεν, διά να ζήσωμεν και να μη αποθάνωμεν.
3 So Joseph’s ten brethren went down, —to buy corn from the Egyptians;
Και κατέβησαν οι δέκα αδελφοί του Ιωσήφ διά να αγοράσωσι σίτον εξ Αιγύπτου.
4 but, Benjamin, Joseph’s own brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren, —for he said, Lest there befall him any mischief.
τον Βενιαμίν όμως, τον αδελφόν του Ιωσήφ, δεν απέστειλεν ο Ιακώβ μετά των αδελφών αυτού· διότι είπε, Μήπως συμβή εις αυτόν συμφορά.
5 Thus came in the sons of Israel, to buy corn in the midst of them that came—for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
Και ήλθον οι υιοί του Ισραήλ διά να αγοράσωσι σίτον μεταξύ των εκεί ερχομένων· διότι η πείνα ήτο εν τη γη Χαναάν.
6 Now, Joseph—he, it was, that was in power over the land, he, it was that was selling corn to all the people of the land, —so Joseph’s brethren came in, and bowed themselves down to him, with their faces to the earth.
Ο Ιωσήφ δε ήτο ο διοικητής του τόπου· αυτός επώλει εις πάντα τον λαόν του τόπου· ήλθον λοιπόν οι αδελφοί του Ιωσήφ και προσεκύνησαν αυτόν επί πρόσωπον έως εδάφους.
7 And Joseph beheld his brethren and recognised them, —and made himself a stranger unto them and spake with them harsh things and said unto them—Whence have ye come in? And they said, From the land of Canaan, to buy food.
Ιδών δε ο Ιωσήφ τους αδελφούς αυτού, εγνώρισεν αυτούς· προσεποιήθη όμως τον ξένον προς αυτούς και ελάλει προς αυτούς σκληρά· και είπε προς αυτούς, Πόθεν έρχεσθε; οι δε είπον, Εκ της γης Χαναάν, διά να αγοράσωμεν τροφάς.
8 And Joseph recognised his brethren, —whereas they, recognised him not.
Και ο μεν Ιωσήφ εγνώρισε τους αδελφούς αυτού· εκείνοι όμως δεν εγνώρισαν αυτόν.
9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he had dreamed regarding them, —so he said unto them—Spies, are, ye! to see the nakedness of the land, have ye come in!
Και ενεθυμήθη ο Ιωσήφ τα ενύπνια, τα οποία ενυπνιάσθη περί αυτών· και είπε προς αυτούς, Κατάσκοποι είσθε· ήλθετε να παρατηρήσητε τα γυμνά του τόπου.
10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, —but, thy servants, are come to buy food.
Οι δε είπον προς αυτόν, Ουχί, κύριέ μου· αλλ' ήλθομεν οι δούλοί σου διά να αγοράσωμεν τροφάς·
11 All of us, are, sons of one man, —honest men, are we: thy servants are not, spies.
ημείς πάντες είμεθα υιοί ενός ανθρώπου· καλοί άνθρωποι είμεθα· οι δούλοί σου δεν είναι κατάσκοποι.
12 And he said unto him, —Nay! but, the nakedness of the land, are ye come in to see.
Και είπε προς αυτούς, Ουχί, αλλά τα γυμνά του τόπου ήλθετε διά να παρατηρήσητε.
13 And they said: We, thy twelve servants, are, brethren, sons of one man in the and of Canaan, —and lo! the youngest: is with our father this day, and, the one, is not!
Οι δε είπον, Οι δούλοί σου είμεθα δώδεκα αδελφοί, υιοί ενός ανθρώπου εν τη γη Χαναάν· και ιδού, ο νεώτερος ευρίσκεται σήμερον μετά του πατρός ημών, ο δε άλλος δεν υπάρχει.
14 And Joseph said unto them, —The very thing, that I spake unto you, saying—Spies, are, ye.
Και είπε προς αυτούς ο Ιωσήφ, τούτο είναι το οποίον σας είπα λέγων, Κατάσκοποι είσθε.
15 Hereby, shall ye be proved, —By the life of Pharaoh, ye shall not go forth from hence, save only by the coming in of your youngest brother hither.
Με τούτο θέλετε δοκιμασθή· Μα την ζωήν του Φαραώ δεν θέλετε εξέλθει εντεύθεν, εάν δεν έλθη εδώ ο αδελφός σας ο νεώτερος·
16 Send—from among you—one that he may fetch your brother, but be, ye, held as prisoners, that your words may be proved whether, truth, is with you, —and, if not, by the life of Pharaoh, surely, spies, ye are.
αποστείλατε ένα από σας και ας φέρη τον αδελφόν σας· σεις δε θέλετε μένει δέσμιοι, εωσού αποδειχθώσιν οι λόγοι σας, αν λέγητε την αλήθειαν· ει δε μη, μα την ζωήν του Φαραώ, κατάσκοποι βεβαίως είσθε.
17 So he drew them all together into ward, for three days.
Και έθεσεν αυτούς υπό φύλαξιν τρεις ημέρας.
18 And Joseph said unto them on the third day, This, do and live, —God himself, do, I, revere.
Και την τρίτην ημέραν είπε προς αυτούς ο Ιωσήφ, τούτο κάμετε και θέλετε ζήσει διότι εγώ φοβούμαι τον Θεόν·
19 If ye, are, honest men, one brother of you shall be kept as a prisoner in your house of ward, —but, ye, go, take in corn for the famine of your houses;
Εάν ήσθε καλοί, εις εκ των αδελφών σας ας μείνη δέσμιος εν τη φυλακή, όπου είσθε· σεις δε υπάγετε, λάβετε σίτον διά την πείναν των οικιών σας·
20 and your youngest brother, shall ye bring in unto me, that your words may be confirmed, and ye die not. And they did so.
φέρετε όμως προς εμέ τον αδελφόν σας τον νεώτερον· ούτω θέλουσιν αληθεύσει οι λόγοι σας και δεν θέλετε αποθάνει. Και έκαμον ούτω.
21 And they said each man unto his brother—Verily guilty, we are, respecting our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul when he appealed unto us for favour and we hearkened not, —therefore, hath come in unto us this distress.
Και είπεν ο εις προς τον άλλον, Αληθώς ένοχοι είμεθα διά τον αδελφόν ημών, καθότι είδομεν την θλίψιν της ψυχής αυτού, ότε παρεκάλει ημάς και δεν εισηκούσαμεν αυτού· διά τούτο επήλθεν εφ' ημάς η θλίψις αύτη.
22 And Reuben responded to them, saying—Spake I not unto you saying, Do not sin against the child! And ye hearkened not? His very blood, therefore lo! it is required.
Απεκρίθη δε ο Ρουβήν προς αυτούς λέγων, Δεν είπον προς εσάς λέγων, Μη αμαρτήσητε κατά του παιδίου, και δεν εισηκούσατε; διά τούτο, ιδού, και το αίμα αυτού εκζητείται.
23 But, they, knew not that Joseph was hearkening, —for, the interpreter, was between them.
Και αυτοί δεν ήξευρον ότι ενόει ο Ιωσήφ· διότι συνωμίλουν δι' ερμηνέως.
24 So he turned away from them, and wept, —then came back unto them and spake unto them, and took away from them Simeon, and bound him prisoner before their eyes.
Και συρθείς από πλησίον αυτών έκλαυσε· και πάλιν επέστρεψε προς αυτούς και ελάλει εις αυτούς· και έλαβεν εξ αυτών τον Συμεών και έδεσεν αυτόν ενώπιον αυτών.
25 Then commanded Joseph that their bags should be filled with corn, and their silver be returned each man’s into his sack, and provision be given for the journey, —and it was done to them thus.
Τότε προσέταξεν ο Ιωσήφ να γεμίσωσι τα αγγεία αυτών σίτον και να επιστρέψωσι το αργύριον εκάστου εν τω σακκίω αυτού και να δώσωσιν εις αυτούς ζωοτροφίαν διά την οδόν· και έγεινεν εις αυτούς ούτω.
26 So they lifted up their corn on their asses, —and went their way, from thence.
Και φορτώσαντες τον σίτον αυτών επί τους όνους αυτών, ανεχώρησαν εκείθεν.
27 And the first opened his sack to give fodder to his ass at the inn, —and beheld his silver, yea there, it was in the mouth of his sack!
Ότε δε εις εξ αυτών έλυσε το σακκίον αυτού, διά να δώση εις τον όνον αυτού τροφήν εν τω καταλύματι, είδε το αργύριον αυτού, και ιδού, ήτο εν τω στόματι του σακκίου αυτού.
28 So he said unto his brethren My silver hath been returned, yea verily, there it is in my sack! Then went forth their heart and they turned trembling—each man unto his brother saying. What is this that God hath done to us?
Και είπε προς τους αδελφούς αυτού, το αργύριόν μου μοι εδόθη οπίσω και μάλιστα ιδού, είναι εν τω σακκίω μου· και εξεπλάγη η καρδία αυτών και συνεταράχθησαν, λέγοντες προς αλλήλους, Τι είναι τούτο, το οποίον μας έκαμεν ο Θεός;
29 So they came in unto Jacob their father to the land of Canaan, —and told him all that had befallen them saying:
Ήλθον δε προς Ιακώβ τον πατέρα αυτών εις την γην Χαναάν και απήγγειλαν προς αυτόν πάντα τα συμβάντα εις αυτούς, λέγοντες,
30 The man that is lord of the land spake unto us harsh things, —and then delivered us up. as spies of the land.
Ο άνθρωπος, ο κύριος του τόπου, ελάλησε προς ημάς σκληρά και εξέλαβεν ημάς ως κατασκόπους του τόπου.
31 And we said unto him Honest men, are, we, —we are not spies!
Και είπομεν εις αυτόν, Είμεθα καλοί άνθρωποι δεν είμεθα κατάσκοποι·
32 Twelve brethren, are, we, sons of our father, —the one, is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
δώδεκα αδελφοί είμεθα, υιοί του πατρός ημών· ο εις δεν υπάρχει ο δε νεώτερος είναι την σήμερον μετά του πατρός ημών εν τη γη Χαναάν.
33 Then said the man the lord of the land unto us, Hereby, shall I get to know that honest men, ye are, —One brother of you, leave ye remaining with me, and corn for the famine of your houses, take ye and go your way;
Είπε δε προς ημάς ο άνθρωπος, ο κύριος του τόπου, Με τούτο θέλω γνωρίσει ότι είσθε καλοί άνθρωποι· ένα εκ των αδελφών σας αφήσατε μετ' εμού, και λαβόντες σίτον διά την πείναν των οικιών σας απέλθετε·
34 And bring ye in your youngest brother unto me, So must I get to know that ye are, not spies, but are honest men: Your brother, will I give up to you, and with the land, shall ye traffic.
και φέρετε προς εμέ τον αδελφόν σας τον νεώτερον· τότε θέλω γνωρίσει ότι δεν είσθε κατάσκοποι, άλλ' είσθε καλοί· και θέλω σας αποδώσει τον αδελφόν σας και θέλετε εμπορεύεσθαι εν τω τόπω.
35 And it came to pass when, they, were emptying their, sacks then lo! each man’s bundle of silver, was in his sack, —and when they beheld their bundles of silver—they and their father, they were afraid,
Και ότε εκένουν τα σακκία αυτών, ιδού, εκάστου το κομβόδεμα του αργυρίου ήτο εν τω σακκίω αυτού· και ιδόντες αυτοί και ο πατήρ αυτών τα κομβοδέματα του αργυρίου αυτών, εφοβήθησαν.
36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me, have ye bereaved, —Joseph, is not, and, Simeon, is not, and Benjamin, ye would take! Against me, have happened all these things.
Και είπε προς αυτούς Ιακώβ ο πατήρ αυτών, Σεις με ητεκνώσατε· ο Ιωσήφ δεν υπάρχει και ο Συμεών δεν υπάρχει, και τον Βενιαμίν θέλετε λάβει επ' εμέ ήλθον πάντα ταύτα.
37 Then spake Reuben unto his father saying, My two sons, shalt thou put to death, if I bring him not unto thee, —Come give him up upon my hand, and I, will restore him unto thee.
Είπε δε ο Ρουβήν προς τον πατέρα αυτού λέγων, τους δύο υιούς μου θανάτωσον, εάν δεν φέρω αυτόν προς σέ· παράδος αυτόν εις την χείρα μου και εγώ θέλω επαναφέρει αυτόν προς σε.
38 And he said, My son shall not go down with you, —For, his brother, is dead and, he alone, is left, and as surely as there befall him any mischief by the way wherein ye go, so surely shall ye bring down my grey hairs with sorrow unto hades. (Sheol h7585)
Ο δε είπε, δεν θέλει καταβή ο υιός μου μεθ' υμών· διότι ο αδελφός αυτού απέθανε και αυτός μόνος έμεινε· και εάν συμβή εις αυτόν συμφορά εν τη οδώ, όπου υπάγετε, τότε θέλετε καταβιβάσει την πολιάν μου μετά λύπης εις τον τάφον. (Sheol h7585)
