Genesis 38
1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down away from his brethren, —and turned aside unto a certain Adullamite, whose, name, was Hirah.
E aconteceu no mesmo tempo que Judah desceu de entre seus irmãos, e entrou na casa d'um varão de Adullam, cujo nome era Hirah,
2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose, name, was Shua, —and he took her, and went in unto her;
E viu Judah ali a filha d'um varão cananeu, cujo nome era Shuah; e tomou-a, e entrou a ella.
3 and she conceived and bare a son, —and he called his name Er.
E ella concebeu, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Er;
4 And she conceived again and bare a son, —and she called his name Onan.
E tornou a conceber, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Onan;
5 And she, yet again, bare a son, and called his name Shelah, —and she, was at Chezib, when she bare him.
E continuou ainda, e pariu um filho, e chamou o seu nome Selah; e elle estava em Chezib, quando ella o pariu.
6 And Judah took a wife, for Er his firstborn, —and, her name, was Tamar.
Judah pois tomou uma mulher para Er, o seu primogenito, e o seu nome era Tamar.
7 And it came to pass that Er, Judah’s firstborn was displeasing in the eyes of Yahweh, —so Yahweh put him to death,
Er, porém, o primogenito de Judah, era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pelo que o Senhor o matou.
8 Then said Judah to Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and fulfil the duty of a brother-in-law unto her, —and raise up seed, to thy brother.
Então disse Judah a Onan: Entra á mulher do teu irmão, e casa-te com ella, e suscita semente a teu irmão.
9 And Onan knew that the seed would not be his, —and so although he did go in unto his brother’s wife, yet made he waste upon the ground, so as not to give seed to his brother.
Onan, porém, soube que esta semente não havia de ser para elle; e aconteceu que, quando entrava á mulher de seu irmão, derramava-a na terra, para não dar semente a seu irmão.
10 And it was displeasing, in the eyes of Yahweh what he had done, —so he put, him also, to death,
E o que fazia era mau aos olhos do Senhor, pelo que tambem o matou.
11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law—Remain a widow in the house of thy father until Shelah my son grow up. For he said, Lest, he also, die, like his brethren. So Tamar went her way, and remained in the house of her father.
Então disse Judah a Tamar sua nóra: Fica-te viuva na casa de teu pae, até que Selah, meu filho, seja grande. Porquanto disse: Para que porventura não morra tambem este, como seus irmãos. Assim foi-se Tamar, e ficou-se na casa de seu pae.
12 And when the days were multiplied, then died Shua’s daughter, Judah’s wife, —and Judah consoled himself and went up unto his sheep shearers, he and Hirah his friend the Adullamite, towards Timnah.
Passando-se pois muitos dias, morreu a filha de Shuah, mulher de Judah; e depois se consolou Judah, e subiu aos tosquiadores das suas ovelhas em Timnah, elle e Hirah seu amigo, o adullamita.
13 And it was told Tamar saying, —Lo! thy father-in-law is going up towards Timnah, to the shearing of his sheep.
E deram aviso a Tamar, dizendo: Eis que o teu sogro sobe a Timnah, a tosquiar as suas ovelhas.
14 So she put off from her the garments of her widowhood and covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself up, and sat down in the entrance of, Enaim, which is by the way towards Timnah, —for she saw that Shelah had grown up, and she, had not been given him to wife.
Então ella tirou de sobre si os vestidos da sua viuvez, e cobriu-se com o véu, e envolveu-se, e assentou-se á entrada das duas fontes que estão no caminho de Timnah, porque via que Selah já era grande, e ella lhe não fôra dada por mulher
15 And Judah, seeing her, reckoned her to be an unchaste woman, —for she had covered her face.
E vendo-a Judah, teve-a por uma prostituta; porque ella tinha coberto o seu rosto.
16 So he turned aside unto her. by the way, and said Grant it! I pray thee, let me come in unto thee! For he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, if thou shouldst come in unto me?
E apartou-se a ella ao caminho, e disse: Vem, peço-te, deixa-me entrar a ti. Porquanto não sabia que era sua nóra: e ella disse: Que darás, para que entres a mim
17 And he said, I, will send a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give a pledge until thou send it?
E elle disse: Eu te enviarei um cabrito do rebanho. E ella disse: Dás-me penhor até que o envies?
18 And he said—What is the pledge that I shall give thee? And She said—Thy signet-ring, and thy guard, and thy staff that is in thy hand. So he gave them to her and came in unto her and she conceived by him.
Então elle disse: Que penhor é que te darei? E ella disse: O teu sello, e o teu lenço, e o cajado que está em tua mão. O que elle lhe deu, e entrou a ella, e ella concebeu d'elle.
19 Then she arose and went her way, and put off her veil from her, —and put on the garments of her widowhood.
E ella levantou-se, e foi-se, e tirou de sobre si o seu véu, e vestiu os vestidos da sua viuvez.
20 And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge at the hand of the woman, —but he found her not.
E Judah enviou o cabrito por mão do seu amigo o adullamita, para tomar o penhor da mão da mulher, porém não a achou.
21 So he asked the men of her place saying. Where is the devotee, she that was in Enaim, by the way? And they said, —There hath been here no devotee.
E perguntou aos homens d'aquelle logar, dizendo: Onde está a prostituta que estava no caminho junto ás duas fontes? E disseram: Aqui não esteve prostituta alguma.
22 Then returned he unto Judah, and said—I found her not, —moreover also, the men of the place said, There hath been here no devotee.
E tornou-se a Judah, e disse: Não a achei; e tambem disseram os homens d'aquelle logar: Aqui não esteve prostituta.
23 And Judah said: Thou must take it to her, lest we become a contempt, —lo! I sent this kid, and, thou, hast not found her.
Então disse Judah: Tome-o para si, para que porventura não venhamos em desprezo; eis que tenho enviado este cabrito; mas tu não a achaste.
24 And it came to pass that about three months after, it was told Judah, saying—Tamar thy daughter-in-law hath been guilty of unchastity, moreover also lo! she hath conceived by unchastity. Then said Judah, Bring her forth and let her be burnt.
E aconteceu que, quasi tres mezes depois, deram aviso a Judah, dizendo: Tamar, tua nóra, tem fornicado, e eis que está pejada da fornicação. Então disse Judah: Tirae-a fóra para que seja queimada.
25 When, she, was about to be brought forth, then, she herself, sent unto her father-in-law saying, By the man to whom these belong, have I, conceived! And she said—Examine, I pray thee, to whom belong the signet-ring, and the guard, and the staff—these!
E tirando-a fóra, ella mandou dizer a seu sogro: Do varão de quem são estas coisas eu concebi. E ella disse mais: Conhece, peço-te, de quem é este sello, e estes lenços e este cajado.
26 So Judah examined them and said—More righteous than I! forasmuch, as I had not given her to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
E conheceu-os Judah, e disse: Mais justa é ella do que eu. porquanto não a tenho dado a Selah meu filho. E nunca mais a conheceu.
27 And, it came to pass at the time of her travail, that lo! twins, were in her womb.
E aconteceu ao tempo de parir, eis que havia gemeos em seu ventre;
28 And it came to pass when she was in travail, that one put forth a hand, —so the midwife took and bound upon his hand a crimson thread, saying—This came first!
E aconteceu que, parindo ella, que um poz fóra a mão, e a parteira tomou-a, e atou em sua mão um fio de grã, dizendo: Este saiu primeiro.
29 And so it was that, no sooner had he withdrawn his hand, than lo! his brother had come. And she said, Wherefore hast thou made for thyself a breach? So his name was called Perez.
Mas aconteceu que, tornando elle a recolher a sua mão, eis que saiu o seu irmão, e ella disse: Como tu tens rompido? sobre ti é a rotura. E chamaram o seu nome Perez;
30 And afterwards, came his brother, on whose hand was the crimson thread, —so his name was called, Zerah.
E depois saiu o seu irmão, em cuja mão estava o fio de grã; e chamaram o seu nome Zerah.
