Genesis 34
1 Then went forth Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, —to see the daughters of the land.
യാക്കോബിനു ലേയാ പ്രസവിച്ച മകളായ ദീനാ ആ നാട്ടിലെ യുവതികളെ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ ഇറങ്ങിത്തിരിച്ചു.
2 And Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the land, saw her, —so he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.
ദേശത്തെ ഭരണാധികാരിയും ഹിവ്യനായ ഹാമോരിന്റെ മകനുമായ ശേഖേം അവളെ കണ്ടു; അവൻ അവളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി അവളുമായി കിടക്കപങ്കിട്ടു; അവളെ മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തി.
3 And his soul clave unto Dinah, daughter of Jacob, —and he loved the young woman, and spake to the heart of the young woman.
അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകളായ ദീനായിലേക്ക് ആകർഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടു; അവൻ ആ പെൺകുട്ടിയെ സ്നേഹിക്കുകയും അവളോട് ആർദ്രമായി സംസാരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
4 Then spake Shechem unto Hamor his father, saying, —Take me this girl to wife!
“ഈ പെൺകുട്ടിയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി എടുക്കണം,” ശേഖേം തന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോരിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
5 Now, Jacob, had heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, but, his sons, happened to be with his cattle in the field, —so Jacob kept quiet until they came in.
തന്റെ പുത്രിയായ ദീനായെ ശേഖേം മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തി എന്നവിവരം യാക്കോബ് കേട്ടു; ആ സമയം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ കന്നുകാലികളുമായി വയലിൽ ആയിരുന്നു; അവർ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തുന്നതുവരെ യാക്കോബ് മൗനംപാലിച്ചു.
6 Then came forth Hamor, father of Shechem, unto Jacob, —to speak with him.
ഈ സമയം ശേഖേമിന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോർ യാക്കോബിനോടു സംസാരിക്കാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു.
7 Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field as soon as they heard, and the men were grieved, and it was vexing to them exceedingly, —for, a disgraceful deed, had he done with Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, seeing that so, it should not be done.
അതിനിടയ്ക്ക് വിവരം അറിഞ്ഞയുടൻ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ വയലിൽനിന്ന് തിരിച്ചെത്തി. ശേഖേം യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രിയോടൊപ്പം കിടക്കപങ്കിട്ട് അരുതാത്തതു ചെയ്ത്, ഇസ്രായേലിൽ വഷളത്തം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ട് അവർ കോപവും ക്രോധവും നിറഞ്ഞവരായിത്തീർന്നു.
8 So then Hamor spake with them saying—As for Shechem my son, his soul hath become attached to your daughter, —I pray you give her to him, to wife.
എന്നാൽ ഹാമോർ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിയിലേക്ക് എന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആകൃഷ്ടമായിരിക്കുന്നു. ദയവുചെയ്ത് അവളെ അവനു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കണം.
9 And exchange ye daughters with us in marriage, —your daughters, shall ye give to us, and our daughters, shall ye take to you.
നിങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുമായി മിശ്രവിവാഹബന്ധത്തിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ടാലും! നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു തരികയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാം.
10 And with us, shall ye dwell, —and, the land, shall be before you, tarry, and go through it, and get possessions therein.
ഞങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം പാർക്കുക. ദേശം നിങ്ങളുടെ മുന്നിൽ തുറന്നുകിടക്കുന്നു; അതിൽ താമസിച്ച്, തൊഴിൽചെയ്ത് സ്വത്തു സമ്പാദിക്കുക.”
11 Then said Shechem unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find favour in your eyes, —and, whatsoever ye may say unto me, will I give:
പിന്നെ ശേഖേം ദീനായുടെ പിതാവിനോടും സഹോദരന്മാരോടുമായി പറഞ്ഞു: “നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്നോടു പ്രീതിയുണ്ടാകണം, നിങ്ങൾ ചോദിക്കുന്നതെന്തും ഞാൻ തരാം.
12 Heap on me, exceedingly, dowry and gift, and I will give, just as ye may say unto me, —but give me the young woman, to wife.
സ്ത്രീധനമായോ വിവാഹസമ്മാനമായോ എത്ര അധികം നിങ്ങൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാലും ഞാൻ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നുകൊള്ളാം. പെൺകുട്ടിയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി തന്നാൽമാത്രംമതി.”
13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and spake (because he had defiled Dinah their sister)—
തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയായ ദീനായെ മാനഭംഗപ്പെടുത്തിയതുകൊണ്ട് യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ ശേഖേമിനോടും അവന്റെ പിതാവായ ഹാമോരിനോടും മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞത് കാപട്യത്തോടെ ആയിരുന്നു.
14 and said unto them—We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man that is uncircumcised, —for a reproach, it would be to us.
അവർ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “അങ്ങനെ ഒരു കാര്യം ചെയ്യാൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു സാധ്യമല്ല. പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കാത്ത ഒരു വ്യക്തിക്ക് ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെ നൽകാൻ ഞങ്ങൾ തയ്യാറല്ല; ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് അതു അപമാനമാണ്;
15 Only herein, can we consent to you, —If ye will become like us, by circumcising to you every male,
ഒരേയൊരു വ്യവസ്ഥയിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ സമ്മതിക്കാം, അതായത്, നിങ്ങളുടെ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും ഞങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കണം.
16 then will we give our daughters to you, and your daughters, will we take to us, —and we will dwell with you, and become one people.
അപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തരികയും നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ ഞങ്ങൾക്കായി സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യാം. ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം താമസിച്ച് ഒരു ജനമായിത്തീരാം.
17 But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and be gone.
എന്നാൽ, നിങ്ങൾ പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കാൻ വിസമ്മതിക്കുന്നപക്ഷം ഞങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ട് ഇവിടെനിന്നു പോകും.”
18 And their words looked fair in the eyes of Hamor, —and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor’s son;
അവരുടെ ഈ നിർദേശം ഹാമോരിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിനും നല്ലതെന്നു തോന്നി.
19 and the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, —he, moreover being more honourable than all the house of his father.
തന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തിലുള്ള എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും ഏറെ ആദരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന ആ ചെറുപ്പക്കാരൻ, യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രിയെ അതിയായി ആഗ്രഹിച്ചിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട്, അവർ പറഞ്ഞതനുസരിച്ച് ഉടൻതന്നെ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.
20 So Hamor entered with Shechem his son into the gate of their city, —and they spake unto the men of their city, saying:
ഹാമോരും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമും നഗരകവാടത്തിൽ ചെന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു:
21 As for these men, in peace, they are with us—let them therefore dwell in the land and go through it, for, the land, lo! it is roomy on both hands before them, —their daughters, let us take to us for wives, and our daughters, let us give to them.
“ഈ പുരുഷന്മാർ നമ്മുടെ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളാണ്,” അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. “ഇവർ നമ്മുടെ ദേശത്തു താമസിക്കുകയും തൊഴിൽ ചെയ്യുകയുംചെയ്യട്ടെ. നമ്മുടെ ദേശത്ത് ഇവർക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം സ്ഥലമുണ്ട്. നമുക്ക് അവരുടെ പുത്രിമാരെയും അവർക്കു നമ്മുടെ പുത്രിമാരെയും വിവാഹംചെയ്യാം.
22 Only herein, will the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, —If we circumcise to us every male, even as they are circumcised.
എന്നാൽ അവരെപ്പോലെതന്നെ നമ്മുടെ പുരുഷന്മാരും പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏൽക്കണം എന്ന വ്യവസ്ഥ പാലിച്ചാൽമാത്രമേ അവർ നമ്മോടുചേർന്ന് ഒരേ ജനമായി ജീവിക്കാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ.
23 Their herds and their substance, and all their beasts, shall they, not be, ours? Only, we must consent to them, that they may dwell with us.
അവരുടെ കന്നുകാലികളും അവരുടെ സ്വത്തും അവർക്കുള്ള മറ്റെല്ലാ മൃഗങ്ങളും നമ്മുടേതായിത്തീരുകയില്ലയോ? ആകയാൽ അവർ പറയുന്നതു നമുക്കു സമ്മതിക്കാം; അവർ നമ്മുടെ ഇടയിൽ സ്ഥിരതാമസമാക്കിക്കൊള്ളും.”
24 And they hearkened unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, even all that were going forth out of the gate of his city, —and every male was circumcised, all that were going forth out of the gate of his city.
നഗരകവാടത്തിൽനിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്കുപോയ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും ഹാമോരിന്റെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിന്റെയും നിർദേശം സമ്മതിച്ചു; നഗരത്തിലെ സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും പരിച്ഛേദനം ഏറ്റു.
25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took each man his sword, and came in upon the city, boldly, —and slew every, male;
മൂന്നുദിവസത്തിനുശേഷം, അവർ എല്ലാവരും വേദനയോടെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോൾ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരിൽ രണ്ടുപേർ—ദീനായുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ശിമെയോനും ലേവിയും—തങ്ങളുടെ വാളുമായിച്ചെന്ന്, നിർഭയമായിരുന്ന നഗരത്തെ ആക്രമിച്ച് സകലപുരുഷന്മാരെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.
26 Hamor also, and Shechem his son, slew they with the edge of the sword, —and took Dinah out of the house of Shechem, and came forth,
അവർ ഹാമോരിനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പുത്രനായ ശേഖേമിനെയും വാളിനിരയാക്കി; ശേഖേമിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽനിന്ന് ദീനായെ മോചിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.
27 The sons of Jacob, came in upon the slain and plundered the city, —because they had defiled their sister:
പിന്നെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാർ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ ചെന്ന്, തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെ കളങ്കപ്പെടുത്തിയവരുടെ നഗരം കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.
28 their flocks, and their herds and their asses, —and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, they took;
അവരുടെ ആട്ടിൻപറ്റങ്ങളെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും കഴുതകളെയും നഗരത്തിലും വയലിലും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സകലവസ്തുക്കളെയും അവർ കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.
29 and all their wealth and all their little ones, and their women, took they captive, and seized as plunder, —even all that was in their houses.
അവരുടെ സർവസമ്പത്തും എടുത്ത്; അവരുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുട്ടികളെയും പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പോകുകയും ചെയ്തു; അങ്ങനെ വീടുകളിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന സകലതും അവർ കൊള്ളയടിച്ചു.
30 Then said Jacob unto Simeon and unto Levi—Ye have troubled me by making me odious among them that dwell in the land, among the Canaanites, and among the Perizzites, —I, having only men that may be counted, they will gather themselves, together against me and smite me, —and I shall be destroyed both I and my house.
അപ്പോൾ യാക്കോബ് ശിമെയോനോടും ലേവിയോടും പറഞ്ഞു: “ഈ ദേശവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയും പെരിസ്യരുടെയും ഇടയിൽ നിങ്ങൾ എന്നെ നാറ്റിച്ച് എനിക്ക് ഉപദ്രവം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. നമ്മൾ എണ്ണത്തിൽ കുറവുള്ളവരാണ്; അവർ എനിക്കെതിരേ സംഘടിച്ച് എന്നെ ആക്രമിച്ചാൽ ഞാനും എന്റെ കുടുംബവും നശിച്ചുപോകും.”
31 And they said, —As with a harlot, was he to deal with our sister.
എന്നാൽ അവർ പ്രത്യുത്തരമായി: “അവൻ ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയോട് ഒരു ഗണികയോടെന്നപോലെ പെരുമാറണമായിരുന്നോ?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
