Ezra 5

1 Then were moved to prophesy, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo, the prophets, unto the Jews who were in Judaea and in Jerusalem, —in the name of the God of Israel, unto them.

Τότε προεφήτευσαν ο προφήτης Αγγαίος και Ζαχαρίας ο υιός του Ιδδώ, προς τους Ιουδαίους τους εν Ιουδαία και Ιερουσαλήμ, προφητεύοντες προς αυτούς εν ονόματι του Θεού του Ισραήλ.

2 Then arose—Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, with them, were the prophets of God, strengthening them.

Και εσηκώθησαν Ζοροβάβελ ο υιός του Σαλαθιήλ και Ιησούς ο υιός του Ιωσεδέκ και ήρχισαν να οικοδομώσι τον οίκον του Θεού τον εν Ιερουσαλήμ· και μετ' αυτών οι προφήται του Θεού βοηθούντες αυτούς.

3 At that time, came unto them Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their associates, —and, thus, spake they unto them, Who hath issued unto you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

Εν τούτω τω καιρώ ελθόντες προς αυτούς Ταθναΐ, ο έπαρχος των εντεύθεν του ποταμού, και ο Σεθάρ-βοσναΐ και οι συνέταιροι αυτών, είπον προς αυτούς ούτω· Τις προσέταξεν εις εσάς να οικοδομήτε τον οίκον τούτον και να εγείρητε τούτον τον τοίχον;

4 Then, after this manner, spake we unto them, —What are the names of these men, who, this building, do rear?

Και τότε είπομεν προς αυτούς ποία είναι τα ονόματα των ανδρών, οίτινες οικοδομούσι την οικοδομήν ταύτην.

5 Nevertheless, the eye of their God, was upon the elders of Judah, and they did not forbid them, until the matter, unto Darius, should come, —and, then, answer be returned by letter, concerning this.

Αλλ' επί τους πρεσβυτέρους των Ιουδαίων ήτο ο οφθαλμός του Θεού αυτών, και δεν ηδύναντο να παύσωσιν αυτούς, εωσού έλθη η υπόθεσις προς τον Δαρείον· και τότε έδωκαν απόκρισιν δι' επιστολής περί τούτου.

6 A copy of the letter which Tattenai pasha Beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his associates, the Apharsachites, who were Beyond the Rivet, sent unto Darius the king:

Αντίγραφον της επιστολής, την οποίαν Ταθναΐ, ο έπαρχος των εντεύθεν του ποταμού, και ο Σεθάρ-βοσναΐ και οι συνέταιροι αυτού οι Αφαρσαχαίοι οι εντεύθεν του ποταμού, απέστειλαν προς Δαρείον τον βασιλέα.

7 a message, sent they unto him, —and, thus, was it written therein, Unto Darius the king, all prosperity!

Απέστειλαν επιστολήν προς αυτόν, εν ή ήτο γεγραμμένον ούτως· Εις τον Δαρείον τον βασιλέα, πάσα ειρήνη.

8 Be it known unto the king, that we journeyed into the province of Judah, unto the house of the Great God, and, the same, is being built with large stones, and, timber, is being laid in the walls, —and, this work, with speed, is being done, and is prospering in their hands.

Γνωστόν έστω εις τον βασιλέα, ότι υπήγαμεν εις την επαρχίαν της Ιουδαίας προς τον οίκον του μεγάλου Θεού, και αυτός οικοδομείται με λίθους μεγάλους και εντίθενται ξύλα εις τους τοίχους, και το έργον τούτο προχωρεί ταχέως και ευοδούται εις τας χείρας αυτών.

9 Then asked we of these elders, thus, we said to them, —Who hath issued to you an edict, this house, to build, and, this wall, to complete?

Και ερωτήσαντες εκείνους τους πρεσβυτέρους, ελαλήσαμεν προς αυτούς ούτω· Τις προσέταξεν εις εσάς να οικοδομήτε τον οίκον τούτον και να εγείρητε τούτον τον τοίχον;

10 Yea, their names also, asked we of them, to certify thee, —that we might write the name, of the men who are at their head.

Έτι και τα ονόματα αυτών ηρωτήσαμεν, διά να σοι φανερώσωμεν και γράψωμεν προς σε τα ονόματα των ανδρών των επί κεφαλής αυτών.

11 And, thus, returned they, answer, to us saying, —We, are servants of the God of the heavens and the earth, and are building the house which was built these many years ago, which, a great king of Israel, built and completed.

Και απεκρίθησαν προς ημάς ούτω, λέγοντες, Ημείς είμεθα οι δούλοι του Θεού του ουρανού και της γης, και οικοδομούμεν τον οίκον τον προ πολλών ήδη ετών οικοδομηθέντα, τον οποίον βασιλεύς μέγας του Ισραήλ ωκοδόμησε και ανήγειρεν·

12 But, after that our fathers had provoked the God of the heavens to wrath, he delivered them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, —and, this house, he destroyed, and, the people, he exiled to Babylon.

αφού όμως οι πατέρες ημών παρώργισαν τον Θεόν του ουρανού, παρέδωκεν αυτούς εις την χείρα του Ναβουχοδονόσορ, βασιλέως της Βαβυλώνος, του Χαλδαίου, και κατέστρεψε τον οίκον τούτον και μετώκισε τον λαόν εις την Βαβυλώνα.

13 Howbeit, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king, issued an edict, this house of God, to build.

Πλην εν τω πρώτω έτει Κύρου του βασιλέως της Βαβυλώνος, ο βασιλεύς Κύρος έδωκε προσταγήν να οικοδομηθή ούτος ο οίκος του Θεού.

14 Moreover also, the utensils of the house of God, of gold and silver, which, Nebuchadnezzar, had brought forth out of the temple which was in Jerusalem, and had brought into the temple of Babylon, Cyrus the king, brought them forth, out of the temple of Babylon, —and they were delivered to one Sheshbazzar by name, whom he made, pasha;

Και τα σκεύη έτι τα χρυσά και αργυρά του οίκου του Θεού, τα οποία ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ έλαβεν εκ του ναού του εν Ιερουσαλήμ και έφερεν αυτά εις τον ναόν της Βαβυλώνος, ταύτα ο Κύρος ο βασιλεύς εσήκωσεν εκ του ναού της Βαβυλώνος, και παρεδόθησαν εις τον ονομαζόμενον Σασαβασσάρ, τον οποίον είχε κάμει έπαρχον·

15 and said to him—These utensils, take, go carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, —and let, the house of God, be built in its place.

και είπε προς αυτόν, Λάβε τα σκεύη ταύτα, ύπαγε, φέρε αυτά εις τον ναόν τον εν Ιερουσαλήμ, και ο οίκος του Θεού ας οικοδομηθή εν τω τόπω αυτού.

16 Then, this Sheshbazzar, came, he laid the foundations of the house of God, which was in Jerusalem, —and, since then, even until now, it hath been in building, and is not finished.

Τότε ελθών ούτος ο Σασαβασσάρ έθεσε τα θεμέλια του οίκου του Θεού, του εν Ιερουσαλήμ· και απ' εκείνου του χρόνου έως της σήμερον οικοδομείται και δεν ετελείωσε.

17 Now, therefore, if, unto the king, it seem good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king which is there, in Babylon, whether it be so, that, from Cyrus the king, issued an edict, to build this house of God, in Jerusalem, —and, the pleasure of the king concerning this, let him send unto us.

Τώρα λοιπόν, εάν φαίνηται αρεστόν εις τον βασιλέα, ας γείνη έρευνα εν τω θησαυροφυλακίω του βασιλέως τω εν Βαβυλώνι, εάν ήναι αληθινόν ότι εξεδόθη διαταγή παρά Κύρου του βασιλέως να οικοδομηθή ο οίκος ούτος του Θεού εν Ιερουσαλήμ· και ας αποστείλη ο βασιλεύς προς ημάς την θέλησιν αυτού περί τούτου.
