Ezekiel 14
1 Then came there unto me men, of the elders of Israel, —and sat before me—
Et quelques-uns des anciens du peuple d'Israël vinrent me trouver, et ils s'assirent devant moi.
2 And the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying:
Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
3 Son of man These men have brought up their manufactured gods upon their hear, And their stumbling-block of iniquity, have they set straight before their face, —Shall I be at all enquired of by them?
Fils de l'homme, ces hommes ont conçu leurs pensées en leurs cœurs, et ils ont mis devant leur visage la punition de leurs iniquités: que dois-je leur répondre?
4 Therefore speak unto them and say unto them, Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, Any man whatsoever of the house of Israel Who shall bring up his manufactured gods upon his heart, And set, his stumbling-block of iniquity, straight before his face, And then come in unto the prophet, I Yahweh, have myself answered him thereby. By the multitude of his manufactured gods:
Parle et dis-leur: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tout homme, un homme d'Israël, qui aura conçu des pensées en son cœur et qui aura mis devant son visage la punition de son iniquité, et qui viendra devant le prophète, moi le Seigneur je lui répondrai selon les engagements de sa pensée.
5 To the end the house of Israel may be taken by their own hearts, —in that they have estranged themselves from me, through their manufactured gods—all of them!
Car il désire tromper la maison d'Israël, pour qu'elle se laisse entraîner par ses convoitises et qu'elle éloigne son cœur de moi.
6 Therefore, say thou unto the house of Israel, Thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, Turn ye—and make good your return—from your manufactured gods; And, from all your abominations, make good the turning away of your faces.
À cause de cela, dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Convertissez-vous et détournez-vous de vos mauvaises œuvres et de toutes vos iniquités, et détournez-en vos visages.
7 For what man soever of the house of Israel Or of the sojourners who sojourn in Israel, Who shall estrange himself from following me And who shall bring up his manufactured gods, on his heart, And whose stumbling-block of iniquity, he shall set straight before his face, And then come in unto the prophet, to enquire by him of me, I Yahweh, will myself answer him, on my own account;
Car tout homme, un homme de la maison d'Israël, et tout étranger prosélyte en Israël, qui se sera éloigné de moi et aura conçu des pensées en son cœur et aura mis devant son visage la punition de son iniquité, et qui viendra ensuite au prophète pour le questionner sur moi, moi le Seigneur, je lui répondrai selon les engagements où il est lui-même.
8 And will set my face against that man And will make of him a sign and a proverb, And will cut him off out of the midst of my people: So shall ye know that, I, am Yahweh.
Et je tournerai mon visage contre cet homme, et je le livrerai à la solitude et à l'extermination, et je l'effacerai du milieu de mon peuple, et vous saurez que je suis le Seigneur.
9 Yea the prophet himself when he suffereth himself to be deceived, and speaketh a word, I Yahweh, have suffered that prophet to be deceived, Then will I stretch forth my hand against him, and destroy him out of the midst of my people. Israel:
Et si un prophète s'est égaré, et s'il a parlé, c'est moi le Seigneur qui ai égaré ce prophète; et j'étendrai la main sur lui, et je l'exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple d'Israël.
10 So shall they bear their punishment, As the punishment of him that enquireth, So shall the punishment of the prophet be:
Et ils porteront la peine de leur iniquité, selon l'iniquité de celui qui aura interrogé, laquelle sera punie de la même manière que l'iniquité du prophète;
11 That the house of Israel may no more go astray from following me, And no more defile themselves by any of their transgressions, — But may become my people, and I, may become their God, Declareth My Lord Yahweh.
Afin que la maison d'Israël ne s'égare plus en s'éloignant de moi, qu'elle ne se souille plus par ses péchés; de sorte qu'elle soit mon peuple, et que je sois son Dieu, dit le Seigneur.
12 And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:
Et la parole du Seigneur me vint, disant:
13 Son of man, When a land, shall sin against me by committing treachery, and I shall stretch out my hand against it, And break for it the staff of bread, And send thereon famine, And cut off therefrom man and beast,
Fils de l'homme, la terre qui aura péché contre moi en ses transgressions, j'étendrai la main sur elle; je briserai la force du pain, je lui enverrai la famine, et je détruirai les hommes et son bétail.
14 Then should these three men be in the midst thereof, Noah, Daniel, and Job, they by their righteousness should deliver their own lives— Declareth My Lord, Yahweh.
Et si, au milieu d'elle, se trouvent trois hommes comme Noé, Daniel et Job, ils seront sauvés à cause de leur justice, dit le Seigneur.
15 If a mischievous wild beast, I suffer to pass through the land, and that beast bereave it, so that it become too desolate for any man to pass through, by reason of the wild beast,
Et si j'amène les bêtes farouches sur cette terre, et si je la punis, et si elle est désolée, et que nul ne la traverse en face des bêtes farouches;
16 [Were] these three men in the midst thereof, As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Surely neither sons nor daughters, should they deliver, They alone should be delivered, But the land, should become a desolation.
Si ces trois hommes s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ni leurs fils ni leurs filles ne seront sauvés; eux seuls seront sauvés, mais la terre sera détruite.
17 Or, a sword, I should bring upon that land, and should say. O sword! thou shalt go through the land, and so I should cut off therefrom, man and beast,
Ou bien encore, si je promène le glaive sur cette terre, et si je dis: Que le glaive sillonne toute cette terre, et j'en ôterai les hommes et le bétail;
18 Were these three men in the midst thereof, As I live! Saith My Lord Yahweh, They should deliver neither sons nor daughters, — For they alone, should be delivered.
Et si ces trois hommes s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ils ne sauveront ni leurs fils ni leurs filles; eux seuls seront sauvés.
19 Or pestilence, I, should send into that land, —and should pour out mine indignation thereon in blood, to cut off therefrom man and beast
Ou bien encore, si j'envoie la peste en cette terre, et si je verse sur elle ma colère, avec le sang, pour détruire ses hommes et son bétail,
20 Were Noah, Daniel and Job in the midst thereof, As I live, Declareth My Lord Yahweh, Surely neither son nor daughter, should they deliver, They, by their righteousness should deliver only their own lives.
Et si Noé, Daniel et Jacob s'y trouvent, par ma vie, dit le Seigneur, ni leurs fils ni leurs filles n'échapperont; eux seuls, à cause de leur justice, auront sauvé leurs âmes.
21 For thus, saith My Lord Yahweh, How much less [should they avail] when my four calamitous judgments, sword and famine and mischievous wild beast and pestilence I have sent against Jerusalem, —to cut off therefrom man and beast?
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Si j'envoie contre Jérusalem les quatre fléaux: le glaive, la famine, les bêtes farouches et la peste, pour y détruire les hommes et le bétail;
22 Yet lo! there hath been left therein a remnant of fugitives to be brought forth —sons and daughters— There they are! coming forth unto you, And so ye shall see their way, and their doings, and be consoled over the calamity which I have brought in upon Jerusalem even all that I have brought in upon her.
Voilà qu'il restera quelques hommes; et ceux-là seront sauvés; et ils emmèneront de la ville leurs fils et leurs filles; puis voilà qu'ils viendront à vous, et vous verrez leurs voies et leurs pensées; et le repentir vous pénètrera, à cause des maux que j'aurai fait tomber sur Jérusalem, à cause de toutes les afflictions que je lui aurai envoyées.
23 Yea they shall console you, when ye see their way and their doings, — So shall ye know that not without cause, have I done, anything that I have done with her, Declareth My Lord Yahweh.
Et ils vous consoleront, parce que vous verrez leurs voies et leurs pensées; et vous reconnaîtrez que ce n'est point à tort que j'ai fait tout ce que j'ai fait contre elle, dit le Seigneur.
