Exodus 20
1 And God spake all these words saying: —
Και ελάλησεν ο Θεός πάντας τους λόγους τούτους, λέγων,
2 I, am Yahweh thy God, —who have brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants: —
Εγώ είμαι Κύριος ο Θεός σου, ο εξαγαγών σε εκ γης Αιγύπτου, εξ οίκου δουλείας.
3 Thou shalt not have other gods besides me.
Μη έχης άλλους θεούς πλην εμού.
4 Thou shalt not make to thee an image, or any form, that is in the heavens above, —or that is in the earth beneath, —or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Μη κάμης εις σεαυτόν είδωλον, μηδέ ομοίωμά τινός, όσα είναι εν τω ουρανώ άνω, ή όσα εν τη γη κάτω, όσα εν τοις ύδασιν υποκάτω της γής·
5 thou shalt not bow thyself down to them nor be led to serve them—For, I, Yahweh, thy God, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of fathers upon sons, unto three [generations] and, unto four, of them that hate me;
μη προσκυνήσης αυτά μηδέ λατρεύσης αυτά· διότι εγώ Κύριος ο Θεός σου είμαι Θεός ζηλότυπος, ανταποδίδων τας αμαρτίας των πατέρων επί τα τέκνα, έως τρίτης και τετάρτης γενεάς των μισούντων με·
6 but shewing lovingkindness unto thousands [of generations], —of them who love me, and keep my commandments.
και κάμνων έλεος εις χιλιάδας γενεών των αγαπώντων με και φυλαττόντων τα προστάγματά μου.
7 Thou shalt not utter the name of Yahweh thy God for falsehood, for Yahweh will not let him go unpunished who uttereth his name for falsehood.
Μη λάβης το όνομα Κυρίου του Θεού σου επί ματαίω· διότι δεν θέλει αθωώσει ο Κύριος τον λαμβάνοντα επί ματαίω το όνομα αυτού.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to hallow it:
Ενθυμού την ημέραν του σαββάτου, διά να αγιάζης αυτήν·
9 Six days, shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
εξ ημέρας εργάζου και κάμνε πάντα τα έργα σου·
10 but, the seventh day, is a sabbath unto Yahweh thy God, —thou shalt do no work, thou nor thy son nor thy daughter nor thy servant, nor thy handmaid, nor thy beast, nor thy sojourner who is within thy gates,
η ημέρα όμως η εβδόμη είναι σάββατον Κυρίου του Θεού σου· μη κάμης εν ταύτη ουδέν έργον, μήτε συ, μήτε ο υιός σου, μήτε η θυγάτηρ σου, μήτε ο δούλός σου, μήτε η δούλη σου, μήτε το κτήνός σου, μήτε ο ξένος σου, ο εντός των πυλών σου·
11 For, in six days, did Yahweh make the heavens and the earth, [and] the sea—and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day, —for this cause, Yahweh blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.
διότι εις εξ ημέρας εποίησεν ο Κύριος τον ουρανόν και την γην, την θάλασσαν και πάντα τα εν αυτοίς· εν δε τη ημέρα τη εβδόμη κατέπαυσε· διά τούτο ευλόγησε Κύριος την ημέραν του σαββάτου και ηγίασεν αυτήν.
12 Honour thy father, and thy mother, —that thy days may be prolonged upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God is about to give unto thee.
Τίμα τον πατέρα σου και την μητέρα σου, διά να γείνης μακροχρόνιος επί της γης, την οποίαν σοι δίδει Κύριος ο Θεός σου.
13 Thou shalt not commit murder.
Μη φονεύσης.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Μη μοιχεύσης.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
Μη κλέψης.
16 Thou shalt not testify against thy neighbour, with a witness of falsehood.
Μη ψευδομαρτυρήσης κατά του πλησίον σου μαρτυρίαν ψευδή.
17 Thou shalt not covet, thy neighbour’s house, —thou shalt not covet, thy neighbour’s wife nor his servant nor his handmaid nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything which belongeth unto thy neighbour.
Μη επιθυμήσης την οικίαν του πλησίον σου· μη επιθυμήσης την γυναίκα του πλησίον σου· μηδέ τον δούλον αυτού· μηδέ την δούλην αυτού, μηδέ τον βουν αυτού, μηδέ τον όνον αυτού, μηδέ παν ό, τι είναι του πλησίον σου.
18 And, all the people, were witnessing the voices and the torches, and the sound of the horn, and the mountain smoking, —so then the people were struck with awe and shrank back, and stood afar off.
Και πας ο λαός έβλεπε τας βροντάς και τας αστραπάς και την φωνήν της σάλπιγγος και το όρος καπνίζον· και ότε ο λαός είδε ταύτα, απεσύρθησαν και εστάθησαν μακρόθεν.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak, thou, with us, and we will hear, —but let not God speak with us lest we die.
Και είπον προς τον Μωϋσήν, συ λάλησον προς ημάς και θέλομεν ακούσει και ας μη λαλήση προς ημάς ο Θεός, διά να μη αποθάνωμεν.
20 And Moses said unto the people—Do not fear, for to the end he may prove you, hath God come, —and to the end the reverence of him may be upon your faces that ye sin not.
Και είπεν ο Μωϋσής προς τον λαόν, Μη φοβείσθε· διότι ο Θεός ήλθε διά να σας δοκιμάση, και διά να ήναι ο φόβος αυτού έμπροσθέν σας διά να μη αμαρτάνητε.
21 So then the people stood afar off, and, Moses, approached unto the thick gloom, where God was.
Και εστάθη ο λαός μακρόθεν· ο δε Μωϋσής επλησίασεν εις την ομίχλην όπου ήτο ο Θεός.
22 Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Thus, shalt thou say, unto the sons of Israel, —Ye yourselves, have seen that out of the heavens, have I spoken with you.
Είπε δε Κύριος προς τον Μωϋσήν, Ούτως ειπέ προς τους υιούς Ισραήλ· Σεις είδετε ότι εκ του ουρανού ελάλησα με σάς·
23 Ye shall not make [aught] beside me, —neither gods of silver, nor gods of gold, shall ye make to yourselves.
μη κάμητε θεούς μετ' εμού αργυρούς· μηδέ κάμητε εις εαυτούς θεούς χρυσούς·
24 An altar of earth, shalt thou make to me, then shalt thou offer thereupon thine ascending-sacrifices and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen. In every place where I may mention my name, will I come in unto thee and will bless thee.
θυσιαστήριον εκ γης κάμε εις εμέ· και θυσίαζε επ' αυτού τα ολοκαυτώματά σου και τας ειρηνικάς προσφοράς σου, τα πρόβατά σου και τους βόας σου· εν παντί τόπω όπου αναμνήσω το όνομά μου, θέλω έρχεσθαι προς σε και θέλω σε ευλογεί·
25 But if, an altar of stones, thou wilt make to me, thou shalt not build them hewn, —for as soon as thou hast lifted, thy sharp tool, thereupon, thou hast profaned it;
εάν δε εκ λίθων κάμης θυσιαστήριον εις εμέ, δεν θέλεις οικοδομήσει αυτό εκ πέτρας πελεκητής· διότι εάν περάσης επάνω αυτού το εργαλείόν σου, θέλεις μολύνει αυτό·
26 neither shalt thou go up, by steps unto mine altar, —lest by any means thy shame be discovered thereupon.
και μη αναβής δι' αναβαθμίδων επί το θυσιαστήριόν μου, διά να μη αποκαλυφθή επ' αυτού η γυμνωσίς σου.
