Deuteronomy 4
1 Now, therefore, O Israel, hearken thou unto the statutes, and unto the regulations, which, I, am teaching you, to do [them], —to the end ye may live and enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving unto you.
Agora, pois, ó Israel, ouve os estatutos e os juizos que eu vos ensi- no, para os fazerdes: para que vivaes, e entreis, e possuaes a terra que o Senhor Deus de vossos paes vos dá.
2 Ye shall not add unto the word which, I, am commanding you, neither shall ye take away therefrom, —that ye may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, which, I, am commanding you.
Não accrescentareis á palavra que vos mando, nem diminuireis d'ella, para que guardeis os mandamentos do Senhor vosso Deus, que eu vos mando.
3 Yours are the eyes, that have seen what Yahweh did in Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, did Yahweh thy God destroy out of thy midst;
Os vossos olhos teem visto o que Deus fez por Baal-peor; pois a todo o homem que seguiu a Baal-peor o Senhor teu Deus consumiu do meio de ti.
4 but, ye who kept on cleaving unto Yahweh your God, alive, are ye all to-day.
Porém vós, que vos cheastes ao Senhor vosso Deus, hoje todos estaes vivos.
5 See! I have taught you statutes, and regulations, as Yahweh my God commanded me, —that ye should do so, in the midst of the land whereinto ye are entering to possess it.
Vêdes aqui vos tenho ensinado estatutos e juizos, como me mandou o Senhor meu Deus: para que assim façaes no meio da terra a qual ides a herdar.
6 Therefore shall ye observe, and do [them], for that, will be your wisdom, and discernment, in the eyes of the peoples, —who will hear all these statutes, and will say—Nevertheless, a people wise and discerning, is this great nation.
Guardae-os pois, e fazei-os, porque esta será a vossa sabedoria e o vosso entendimento perante os olhos dos povos, que ouvirão todos estes estatutos, e dirão: Este grande povo só é gente sabia e entendida.
7 For what great nation is there which hath gods nigh unto it, —like Yahweh our God, whensoever we have cried out unto him.
Porque, que gente ha tão grande, que tenha deuses tão chegados como o Senhor nosso Deus, todas as vezes que o chamamos?
8 Or what great nation which hath righteous statutes and regulations, like all this law, which, I, am setting before you to-day?
E que gente ha tão grande, que tenha estatutos e juizos tão justos como toda esta lei que hoje dou perante vós?
9 Only take thou heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, so that thou forget not the things which thine own eyes have seen, and so that they go not out of thy heart, all the days of thy life, —but thou shalt make them known unto thy sons and unto thy sons’ sons: —
Tão sómente guarda-te a ti mesmo, e guarda bem a tua alma, que te não esqueças d'aquellas coisas que os teus olhos teem visto, e se não apartem do teu coração todos os dias da tua vida: e as farãs saber a teus filhos, e aos filhos de teus filhos:
10 What day thou didst stand before Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, when Yahweh said unto me, Gather unto me the people, that I may let them hear my words, —which they must learn that they may revere me all the days which they are living upon the soil, their children also, must they teach.
O dia em que estiveste perante o Senhor teu Deus em Horeb, quando o Senhor me disse: Ajunta-me este povo, e os farei ouvir as minhas palavras, e aprendel-as-hão, para me temerem todos os dias que na terra viverem, e as ensinarão a seus filhos;
11 So ye drew near and stood, under the mountain. Now, the mountain, was burning with fire, up to the midst of the heavens, —darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.
E vós vos chegastes, e vos pozestes ao pé do monte: e o monte ardia em fogo até ao meio dos céus, e havia trevas, e nuvens e escuridão;
12 Then spake Yahweh unto you out of the midst of the fire, —a voice of words, ye were hearing, no form, were ye seeing, there was only a voice.
Então o Senhor vos fallou do meio do fogo: a voz das palavras ouvistes; porém, além da voz, não vistes similhança nenhuma.
13 Then declared he unto you his covenant which he commanded you to do, the ten words, —and wrote them upon two tables of stone.
Então vos annunciou elle o seu concerto, que vos ordenou fazer, os dez mandamentos, e os escreveu em duas taboas de pedra.
14 And unto me, gave Yahweh command, at that time, to teach you statutes and regulations, —that ye should do them, in the land whereinto ye are passing over to possess it.
Tambem o Senhor me ordenou ao mesmo tempo que vos ensinasse estatutos e juizos, para que os fizesseis na terra a qual passaes a possuir.
15 Ye must take diligent heed, therefore unto your own souls, for ye saw no manner of form, on the day Yahweh spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;
Guardae pois com diligencia as vossas almas, pois similhança nenhuma vistes no dia em que o Senhor vosso Deus em Horeb fallou comvosco do meio do fogo;
16 lest ye should break faith, and make you an image, a form of any likeness, —a model of male or female;
Para que não vos corrompaes, e vos façaes alguma esculptura, similhança de imagem, figura de macho ou de femea;
17 a model of any beast that is in the earth, —a model of any winged bird, that flieth in the heavens;
Figura d'algum animal que haja na terra; figura d'alguma ave aligera que vôa pelos céus;
18 a model of any thing that creepeth on the ground, —a model of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth;
Figura d'algum animal que anda de rastos sobre a terra; figura d'algum peixe que esteja nas aguas debaixo da terra;
19 or lest thou shouldest lift up thine eyes towards the heavens and see the sun and the moon, and the stars—all the host of the heavens, and shouldest be seduced, and shouldest bow thyself down to them and he led to serve them, —the which Yahweh thy God hath assigned unto all the peoples under all the heavens;
Que não levantes os teus olhos aos céus e vejas o sol, e a lua, e as estrellas, todo o exercito dos céus; e sejas impellido a que te inclines perante elles, e sirvas áquelles que o Senhor teu Deus repartiu a todos os povos debaixo de todos os céus.
20 whereas you, hath Yahweh taken, and brought you forth out of a smelting-pot of iron, out of Egypt, —that ye might become his own inherited people as at this day.
Mas o Senhor vos tomou, e vos tirou do forno de ferro do Egypto, para que lhe sejaes por povo hereditario, como n'este dia se vê.
21 But, Yahweh shewed himself angry with me, for your sakes, —and sware that I should not pass over the Jordan, and that I should not enter into the good land, which, Yahweh thy God, is giving unto thee as an inheritance;
Tambem o Senhor se indignou contra mim por causa das vossas palavras, e jurou que eu não passaria o Jordão, e que não entraria na boa terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dará por herança.
22 for, I, am about to die in this land, I am not to pass over the Jordan, —but, ye, are to pass over, and possess this good land.
Porque eu n'esta terra morrerei, não passarei o Jordão: porém vós o passareis, e possuireis aquella boa terra.
23 Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he hath solemnised with you, —and so make for yourselves an image, the form of anything, the which Yahweh thy God hath forbidden thee;
Guardae-vos de que vos esqueçaes do concerto do Senhor vosso Deus, que tem feito comvosco, e vos façaes esculptura alguma, imagem d'alguma coisa que o Senhor vosso Deus vos prohibiu.
24 seeing that as for Yahweh thy God, a consuming fire, he is, —a jealous GOD.
Porque o Senhor teu Deus é um fogo que consome, um Deus zeloso.
25 When thou shalt beget sons, and sons’ sons, and become careless in the land and break faith and make an image the form of any thing, and shalt do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God provoking him to anger,
Quando pois gerardes filhos, e filhos de filhos, e vos envelhecerdes na terra, e vos corromperdes, e fizerdes alguma esculptura, similhança d'alguma coisa, e fizerdes mal aos olhos do Senhor, para o provocar á ira:
26 I take both the heavens and the earth to witness against you to-day, that ye shall, perish, speedily, from off the land which ye are passing over the Jordan to possess, —ye shall not prolong your days thereupon; for, ye shall surely be laid waste;
Hoje tomo por testemunhas contra vós o céu e a terra, que certamente perecereis depressa da terra, a qual passaes o Jordão a possuir: não prolongareis os vossos dias n'ella, antes sereis de todo destruidos.
27 and Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, —and ye shall have left remaining of you men easily counted, among the nations whither Yahweh will drive you;
E o Senhor vos espalhará entre os povos, e ficareis poucos em numero entre as gentes ás quaes o Senhor vos conduzirá.
28 and ye will serve there gods made by the hands of man, —wood or stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
E ali servireis a deuses que são obra de mãos de homens, madeira e pedra, que não vêem nem ouvem, nem comem nem cheiram.
29 If thou shalt seek from thence, Yahweh thy God, then shalt thou find him, —when thou shalt search after him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.
Então d'ali buscarás ao Senhor teu Deus, e o acharás, quando o buscares de todo o teu coração e de toda a tua alma
30 In thy distress, when all these things have found thee out—in the afterpart of the days, thou wilt return unto Yahweh thy God, and wilt hearken to his voice.
Quando estiveres em angustia, e todas estas coisas te alcançarem, então no fim de dias te virarás ao Senhor teu Deus, e ouvirás a sua voz
31 For, a GOD of compassion, is Yahweh thy God, he will not forsake thee neither will he destroy thee, —nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.
Porquanto o Senhor teu Deus é Deus misericordioso; e não te desamparará, nem te destruirá, nem se esquecerá do concerto que jurou a teus paes
32 For ask, I pray you, of the former days which were before thee, even from the day when God created man upon the earth, yea from one end of the heavens even to the other end of the heavens, —whether aught was ever brought to pass, like this great thing, or was ever heard of like it:
Porque, pergunta agora aos tempos passados, que te precederam desde o dia em que Deus creou o homem sobre a terra, desde uma extremidade do céu até á outra, se succedeu jámais coisa tão grande como esta, ou se se ouviu coisa como esta
33 Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?
Ou se algum povo ouviu a voz de Deus fallando do meio do fogo, como tu a ouviste, e ficou vivo?
34 Or did a god ever make trial of entering in to take unto him a nation out of the midst of a nation, by provings, by signs and by wonders and by fighting, and by a firm hand and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, —according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?
Ou se um Deus intentou ir tomar para si um povo do meio de outro povo com provas, com signaes, e com milagres, e com peleja, e com mão forte, e com braço estendido, e com grandes espantos, conforme a tudo quanto o Senhor vosso Deus vos fez no Egypto aos vossos olhos?
35 Thou, wast allowed to see that thou mightest know, that Yahweh, he is God, there is none other than he alone.
A ti te foi mostrado para que soubesses que o Senhor é Deus: nenhum outro ha senão elle.
36 Out of the heavens, he let thee hear his voice to instruct thee, —and, upon the earth, he let thee see his great fire, and his own words, thou didst hear out of the midst of the fire.
Desde os céus te fez ouvir a sua voz, para te ensinar, e sobre a terra te mostrou o seu grande fogo, e ouviste as suas palavras do meio do fogo.
37 And because that he loved thy fathers, therefore chose he his seed after him, —and brought thee forth with his presence with his great might, out of Egypt;
E, porquanto amava teus paes, e escolhera a sua semente depois d'elles, te tirou do Egypto diante de si, com a sua grande força:
38 to dispossess nations, greater and stronger than thou from before thee, —to bring thee in. to give unto thee their land for an inheritance: As at this day.
Para lançar fóra de diante de ti gentes maiores e mais poderosas do que tu, para te introduzir n'ella, e te dar a sua terra por herança, como n'este dia se vê
39 So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath, —there is none other.
Pelo que hoje saberás, e reflectirás no teu coração, que só o Senhor é Deus em cima no céu, e em baixo na terra; nenhum outro ha.
40 So shalt thou keep his statutes and his commandments which, I, am commanding thee to-day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, —and to the end thou mayest prolong thy days upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God, is giving thee, all the days.
E guardarás os teus estatutos e os seus mandamentos, que te ordeno hoje, para que bem te vá a ti, e a teus filhos depois de ti, e para que prolongues os dias na terra que o Senhor teu Deus te dá para todo o sempre.
41 Then, did Moses set apart three cities, over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun:
Então Moysés separou tres cidades d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do nascimento do sol
42 that the manslayer might flee thither who should slay his neighbour unawares, he, not having hated him, aforetime, —and might flee unto one of these cities, and live:
Para que ali se acolhesse o homicida que de improviso matasse o seu proximo a quem d'antes não tivesse odio algum: e se acolhesse a uma d'estas cidades, e vivesse;
43 namely Bezer, in the desert of the table-land, for the Reubenites, —and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.
A Bezer, no deserto, na terra plana, para os rubenitas; e a Ramoth, em Gilead, para os gaditas; e a Golan, em Basan, para os manassitas.
44 This, then is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel:
Esta é pois a lei que Moysés propoz aos filhos de Israel.
45 These, are the testimonies, and the statutes and the regulations, —which Moses spake unto the sons of Israel when they came forth out of Egypt:
Estes são os testemunhos, e os estatutos, e os juizos, que Moysés fallou aos filhos de Israel, havendo saido do Egypto;
46 over the Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt:
D'aquem do Jordão, no valle defronte de Beth-peor, na terra de Sehon, rei dos amorrheos, que habitava em Hesbon: a quem feriu Moysés e os filhos de Israel, havendo elles saido do Egypto.
47 so they took possession of his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan the two kings of the Amorites, who were over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun;
E tomaram a sua terra em possessão, como tambem a terra de Og, rei de Basan, dois reis dos amorrheos, que estavam d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do nascimento do sol.
48 from Aroer which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, the same, is Hermon;
Desde Aroer, que está á borda do ribeiro de Arnon, até ao monte de Sion. que é Hermon,
49 and all the waste plain over the Jordan, towards sunrise, even unto the sea of the waste plain, —under the slopes of the Pisgah.
E toda a campina d'áquem do Jordão, da banda do oriente, até ao mar da campina, abaixo de Asdoth-pisga.
