Deuteronomy 33

1 Now, this, is the blessing wherewith Moses, the man of God, blessed the sons of Israel, —before his death.

Dette er den velsigningi som gudsmannen Moses lyste yver Israels-sønerne fyrr han døydde.

2 And he said—Yahweh from Sinai, came near, —Yea he dawned, out of Seir, upon them, He shone forth out of Mount Paran, Yea he came out of holy myriads, —Out of his right hand [proceeded] fire to guide them.

Han kvad: «Herren frå Sinai kom, steig upp for oss ifrå Se’ir, skein ifrå Parans heid, gjekk fram or dei heilage herar, og strålar frå handi hans strøymde.

3 Yea he loved the tribes, All his holy ones, were in thy hand, —Yea, they, were encamped at thy feet, Each one bare away some of thy words.

Ja, han elskar ætterne høgt, og vel sine heilage vardar; dei flokkar seg kring hans fot, dei lyder trutt på hans tale.

4 A law, did Moses command us, —A possession, for the convocation of Jacob.

Moses lærd’ oss ei lov, ein arv for lyden åt Jakob;

5 Thus became he in, Jeshurun, a king, —When the heads of the people gathered them-selves together, As one man, the tribes of Israel. [Reuben] —

og Jesjurun kåra ein konung, då hovdingarn’ slo seg i hop, og Israels-ætterne eintest.

6 Let Reuben live and not die, —Nor his men be easily counted.

«Lat Ruben liva og aldri døy ut, um mennern’ hans ikkje er mange!»

7 And, this, is for Judah, when he said, Hear, O Yahweh, the voice of Judah, That unto his own people, thou wouldst bring him home, —Let, his own hands, suffice him, And, a helper from his adversaries, do thou become.

Og um Juda kvad han dette: «Høyr, Herre, ropi frå Juda, og før han heim til sitt folk, som han strider veldeleg fyre; ver imot valdsmenn hans hjelp!»

8 And of Levi, he said: Let, thy perfections and thy lights, belong unto thy man of lovingkindness, —Whom thou didst put to the proof at Massah, With whom thou didst contend over the waters of Meribah;

Og um Levi kvad han: «Ditt «ljos» og «di sanning» gjev lyden åt den som hev vore deg lydug, han som du røynde i Massa, og rengdest med ved Meriba!

9 Who saith of his father and of his mother, I behold them not, And, his own brethren, regardeth he not, And, his own sons, observeth he not, —Because they watch thy speech, That, thy covenant, they may preserve;

Dei segjer um far sin og mor si: «Eg hev ikkje sett desse folki; » dei bryr seg ikkje um brødern’ og kjendest ikkje ved borni, men agtar på ordi dine, og gøymer di pakt i sitt hjarta.

10 May teach thy regulations unto Jacob, And thy law unto Israel, —May put incense in thy nostrils, And a whole-offering upon thine altar.

Dei lærer Jakob di lov og Israels lyd dine bod, dei legg røykjelse for ditt andlit, og offerfe på ditt altar.

11 Bless, O Yahweh his substance, And with the work of his hands, wilt thou be well pleased, —Crush thou the loins of them who rise up against him, And of them who hate him, that they rise not again.

Velsigna, herre, hans velde, hav hugnad i alt hans verk! Brjot ryggen på deim som renn på han, so dei aldri vinn reisa seg meir!»

12 Of Benjamin, he said, The beloved of Yahweh, shall settle down securely, —With one to throw a shade over him all the day long, Yea, between his shoulders, hath he found rest.

Um Benjamin kvad han: Hjartebarnet åt Herren hev seg so trygg ei heim han kviler imillom hans herdar; stødt held Gud si hand yver han.»

13 And of Joseph, he said, Blessed of Yahweh, be his land, —With the precious things of the heavens with the dew, And with the abyss, couching beneath;

Og um Josef kvad han: «Med doggi, dyre himmelgåva, velsignar Herren landet hans, med vatn utor det store djupet, som gøymt innunder jordi ligg.

14 And with the precious fruits of the sun, —And with the precious yield of the moons;

Med alt det beste soli el, med frukti månarne driv fram.

15 And with the chief of the ancient mountains, —And with the precious things of the age-abiding hills;

Alt godt ifrå dei gamle fjelli, alt hævt frå ævelege haug,

16 And with the precious things of the earth and its fulness, And with the goodwill of One who dwelt in a thorn-bush.—Let it come on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him who was consecrated among his brethren.

alt gjævt og gildt som fyller jordi, hans blida som i klungeren bur, det kome yver Josefs hovud, det kryne kvervelen åt han, som konung er bland sine brøder!

17 His firstborn ox, be an honour to him. And the horns of a buffalo, be his horns, With them, let him thrust, peoples, All at once, to the ends of the earth, —Yea, [with] these, the myriads of Ephraim, And, [with] those, the thousands of Manasseh.

Ovgild er hans frumborne ukse! hans horn er som uruksehorn; med deim stangar han alle folki til verdsens ytste endemark. Det er Efraims store herar, det er Manasses sterke hop.»

18 And, of Zebulun, he said, Rejoice, Zebulun in thy going out, —And [thou], Issachar in thy tents:

Og um Sebulon kvad han: «Gled deg, Sebulon, i di utferd, og du Issakar, i ditt tjeld!

19 The peoples, unto the mountain, will they call, There, will they offer the sacrifices of righteousness, —For, the abundance of the seas, will they suck, Hidden treasures of the sand.

Til fjellet bed dei folki koma - rettuge forner ber dei fram; for utor sjøen syg dei rikdom og skattar gøymd’ i havsens sand.

20 And, of Gad, he said: Blessed, be he that hath made room for Gad, —As a lioness, hath he laid himself down, And hath torn an arm likewise the crown of the head;

Og um Gad kvad han: «Lova vere han som gav Gad romt land! Der ligg han og lurer som løva og riv sund herdar og hovud.

21 And hath provided a first part for himself, For, there, a commander’s portion hath been hid, —So he cometh with the heads of the people, The righteousness of Yahweh, he executeth, And his regulations, with Israel.

Han såg seg ut fyrste luten, etla åt den som var førar, so for han fram fyre folket, og saman med Israels-sønern’ gjord’ han alt det Herren sa fyre, alt det som var rett i Guds augo.»

22 And, of Dan, he said, Dan, is a lion’s whelp, —He leapeth out of Bashan.

Og um Dan kvad han: «Dan er ein løveunge lik som ifrå Basan byksar fram.»

23 And, of Naphtali, he said, O Naphtali! satisfied with favour, And full with the blessing of Yahweh, —The west and the sunny south, do thou possess.

Og um Naftali kvad han: «Naftali, metta med nåde og nørd med Herrens velsigning, søk landet ditt sud med sjøen!»

24 And, of Asher, he said, Most blessed of sons, be Asher, —Let him have the goodwill of his brethren, And let him dip, in oil, his foot:

Og um Asser kvad han: «Sælaste sonen vert Asser, bestebarn bland sine brøder; i olje fær han duppa foten.

25 Iron and bronze, be thy sandals, And, as thy days, be thy strength.

Av kopar og jarn er ditt lås, og di kvild so lang som ditt liv!»

26 There is none like GOD, O Jeshurun, —Riding upon the heavens to thy help, —And for his own majesty, on the skies;

Det finst ingen som Gud, Jesjurun! Han fer deg til hjelp yver himmelen og ek i si allmagt på skyerne.

27 Above, is the God of aforetime, And, beneath, are the Arms of the ages, —So he driveth before thee the foe, And doth say—Destroy!

Ei borg er den eld’-gamle Gud; hit ned når hans evige arm. Dine uvener driv han burt, og segjer åt deg: «Øyd ut!»

28 Thus hath Israel settled down securely, Alone, the fountain of Jacob, Within a land both of corn and new wine, —His heaven also droppeth down dew.

So bur då Israel trygt, og Jakobs-ætti åleine, i eit land fullt av druvor og korn, og doggi dryp frå hans himmel!

29 How happy art thou, O Israel! Who is like unto thee, O people victorious in Yahweh? Thy helpful shield, who also is thy majestic sword, —So that thy foes come cringing unto thee, And, thou, upon their heights, dost march along.

Å, Israel, kor du er sæl! Kven er vel som du? - eit folk som hev Herren til frelsar, din verjande skjold og ditt velduge sverd! Sjå, fiendarne smeikjer for deg, med du yver høgderne deira skrid fram!»
