Deuteronomy 3
1 Then turned we and went up, the way of Bashan; and Og king of Bashan, came out to meet us, he, and all his people, to give battle at Edrei.
So tok me på ei onnor leid, og for uppetter på vegen til Basan, og Og, kongen i Basan, kom imot oss til Edre’i med alt herfolket sitt, og baud ufred.
2 And Yahweh said unto me: Do not fear him, for into thy hand, have I delivered him and all his people and his land, —so then thou shalt do unto him, as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites who was dwelling in Heshbon.
Men Herren sagde til meg: «Du tarv ikkje vera rædd honom. Eg gjev honom i dine hender med alt folket og landet hans, og du kann gjera med honom, som du gjorde med Sihon, kongen yver amoritarne, som budde i Hesbon.»
3 Then did Yahweh our God deliver into our hand, Og also, king of Bashan and all his people, —so we smote him until there was not left remaining to him a survivor.
So gav Herren, vår Gud, Basan-kongen Og i våre hender, både honom og alt folket hans, og me hogg deim ned, so ingen vart att eller slapp undan.
4 And we captured all his cities, at that time, there was no fortress which we took not from them, —sixty cities all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
Den gongen tok me alle byarne hans - det fanst ikkje ein by utan me tok honom frå deim - seksti byar, som alle høyrde til Argoblandet, riket åt Og i Basan.
5 All these, were fortified cities each with a high wall, folding gates and a bar, —besides country towns exceeding many.
Alle desse var faste borger med høge murar og tvihurda portar med slå fyre. Umfram deim tok me og alle landsbyarne, og det var uhorveleg mange.
6 And we devoted them to destruction, doing unto them as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, —devoting to destruction every city of males, the women, and the little ones.
Me bannstøytte deim, som me hadde gjort med Sihon, kongen i Hesbon; kvar einaste by bannstøytte me, og drap både menner og kvinnor og born.
7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, made we our prey.
Men all buskapen og alt herfanget i byarne eigna me til oss.
8 Thus did we at that time take the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites (which was over the Jordan), —from the ravine of Arnon as far as Mount Hermon.
Soleis tok me den gongen landet frå båe amoritarkongane austanfor Jordan, alt ifrå Arnonåi til Hermonfjellet
9 Sidonians, call Hermon Sirion, —but, the Amorites, call it Senir.
- det er det som sidonitarne kallar Sirjon, og amoritarne Senir -
10 All the cities of the table-land, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, —unto Salecah, and Edrei, —cities of the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.
alle byarne på høgsletta og heile Gilead og heile Basan radt til Salka og Edre’i, alle byarne i riket åt Og i Basan.
11 For, only Og, king of Bashan was left remaining of the remnant of the giants, lo! his bedstead, was a bedstead of iron, is not, the same, in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? nine cubits, the length thereof and four cubits, the breadth thereof, by the fore-arm of a man.
Og, kongen i Basan, var den siste som var att av kjempefolket; kista hans stend, som alle veit, i Rabba, hovudstaden åt Ammons-sønerne; ho er av jarnstein, og er ni alner lang og fire alner breid etter vanleg alnemål.
12 And this land, took we in possession at that time, —from Aroer which is by the ravine of Arnon, and half the hill-country of Gilead and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites;
«Dette landet lagde me under oss då. Bygderne nordanfor Aroer, som ligg innmed Arnonåi, og helvti av Gileadfjelli med byarne som der var, let eg rubenitarne og gaditarne få.
13 but the remainder of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh, —all the region of the Argob with all Bashan. The same, is called, A land of giants.
Og det som var att av Gilead og heile Basan, riket åt Og, heile Argoblandet, gav eg til den halve Manasse-ætti.» Heile dette Basanriket rekna dei til kjempelandi.
14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the region of Argob, as far as the boundary of the Geshurites, and the Maachathites, —and called them after his own name The Bashan of Havvoth-jair unto this day.
Ja’ir, son åt Manasse, tok heile Argoblandet radt til bytet mot gesuritarne og ma’akatitarne; desse bygderne, Basanbygderne, gav han namn etter seg sjølv, og sidan hev folk kalla deim Ja’irsbygderne alt til denne dag.
15 And, unto Machir, gave I Gilead;
Gilead let eg Makir få,
16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites, gave I—from Gilead even as far as the ravine of Arnon, the middle of the ravine and boundary, —even as far as the Jabbok ravine, the boundary of the sons of Ammon;
og rubenitarne og gaditarne gav eg landet frå Gilead til Arnonåi, til midt i åi, der som landskilet gjeng, og til Jabbokåi, som er landskilet mot Ammons-sønerne,
17 the Waste Plain also and the Jordan and boundary, —from Chinnereth, even as far as the sea of the Waste Plain the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah, on the east.
og Moarne nedunder Pisgaliderne austanfor Jordanåi - for ho er landskilet der - frå Kinneret til Moavatnet, det som dei kallar Saltsjøen.
18 So I commanded you, at that time saying, —Yahweh your God hath given unto you this land to possess it, armed, shall ye pass over before your brethren the sons of Israel all the sons of valour,
Den gongen var det eg sagde til dykk: «Dette landet hev Herren, dykkar Gud, gjeve dykk til eigedom. No lyt de fara fram stridsbudde fyre dei andre Israels-sønerne, so mange av dykk som er våpnføre,
19 Only, your wives and your little ones and your cattle—I know that ye have much cattle—shall abide in your cities which I have given unto you;
og berre konorne og borni dykkar og bufeet - for eg veit de hev mykje bufe - skal vera att i byarne som eg hev gjeve dykk;
20 until that Yahweh shall give rest unto your brethren, as well as you, so shall, they too, possess the land which, Yahweh your God, is giving unto them, over the Jordan, —then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given unto you.
men når Herren hev late brørne dykkar koma til ro liksom de, og dei og hev lagt under seg det landet han gjev deim på hi sida Jordan, då kann de fara heim att til eigedomarne som eg hev gjeve dykk.»
21 Joshua also, commanded I, at that time saying, —Thine are the eyes, that have seen all that Yahweh your God hath done unto these two kings, thus, will Yahweh do unto all the kingdoms whereunto thou, art passing over:
Same gongen sagde eg til Josva: «Du såg sjølv kva Herren, dykkar Gud, gjorde med desse tvo kongarne; so vil han gjera med alle dei riki du kjem til der du fer fram.
22 ye shall not fear them, —for, Yahweh your God, he, it is that is fighting for you.
De tarv ikkje ræddast deim; for Herren, dykkar Gud, vil sjølv strida for dykk.»
23 Then sought I Yahweh at that time, for a favour saying:
Og same gongen bad eg so vænt til Herren, og sagde:
24 My Lord Yahweh, thou thyself, hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy firm hand, —as to which, what GOD is there, in the heavens or in the earth, that can do according to thy doings, and according to thy mighty deeds?
«Herre, min Gud, du hev alt synt meg so mykje av din storleik og di allmagt; for kvar finst det ein gud i himmelen eller på jordi som kann gjera slike storverk og under som du!
25 Let me pass over, I pray thee that I may see the good land that is over the Jordan, —this good mountain, and the Lebanon.
Å, lat meg få koma yver og sjå det gilde landet på hi sida åt Jordan, desse væne fjelli og Libanon!»
26 But Yahweh had been provoked with me for your sakes, and hearkened not unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me, Enough for thee! do not add a word unto me further in this matter.
Men Herren var harm på meg for dykkar skuld; han vilde ikkje høyra på meg og sagde: «No lyt det vara nok! Tala ikkje um det til meg meir!
27 Ascend the top of the Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes—westward, and northward and southward and eastward—and see with thine own eyes, —for thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.
Stig upp på Pisgahøgdi, og vend augo dine mot vest, og mot nord, og mot sud, og mot aust, og sjå vel ikring deg! For denne Jordanåi kjem du aldri yver.
28 But command thou Joshua and confirm him and embolden him, —for, he, shall pass over before this people, and, he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.
So skal du segja Josva fyre, og styrkja og stålsetja honom; for han skal føra dette folket yver og hjelpa deim til å vinna det landet du fær sjå.»
29 So we abode in the valley, over against Beth-peor.
So lagde me oss til i dalen, midt for Bet-Peor.
