Deuteronomy 3
1 Then turned we and went up, the way of Bashan; and Og king of Bashan, came out to meet us, he, and all his people, to give battle at Edrei.
Nous étant tournés, nous montâmes par le chemin de Basan, et Og, roi de Basan, sortit à notre rencontre, avec tout son peuple, pour nous livrer bataille à Edraï.
2 And Yahweh said unto me: Do not fear him, for into thy hand, have I delivered him and all his people and his land, —so then thou shalt do unto him, as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites who was dwelling in Heshbon.
Yahweh me dit: « Ne le crains pas, car je l’ai livré entre tes mains, lui et tout son peuple, et son pays; tu le traiteras comme tu as traité Séhon, roi des Amorrhéens, qui habitait à Hésebon. »
3 Then did Yahweh our God deliver into our hand, Og also, king of Bashan and all his people, —so we smote him until there was not left remaining to him a survivor.
Et Yahweh, notre Dieu, livra aussi entre nos mains Og, roi de Basan, avec tout son peuple; nous le battîmes jusqu’à ce qu’il ne lui restât plus aucun de ses gens.
4 And we captured all his cities, at that time, there was no fortress which we took not from them, —sixty cities all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
Nous prîmes alors toutes ses villes, et il n’y en eut pas une qui ne tombât entre notre pouvoir: soixante villes, toute la région d’Argob, le royaume d’Og en Basan.
5 All these, were fortified cities each with a high wall, folding gates and a bar, —besides country towns exceeding many.
Toutes ces villes étaient fortifiées, avec de hautes murailles, des portes et des barres; sans compter les villes sans murailles, en très grand nombre.
6 And we devoted them to destruction, doing unto them as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, —devoting to destruction every city of males, the women, and the little ones.
Nous les dévouâmes par anathème, comme nous l’avions fait pour Séhon, roi de Hésebon, dévouant par anathème villes, hommes, femmes et enfants.
7 But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, made we our prey.
Mais nous pillâmes pour nous tout le bétail et le butin des villes.
8 Thus did we at that time take the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites (which was over the Jordan), —from the ravine of Arnon as far as Mount Hermon.
Ainsi, dans ce temps-là, nous prîmes aux deux rois des Amorrhéens le pays qui est au-delà du Jourdain, depuis le torrent de l’Arnon jusqu’à la montagne d’Hermon.
9 Sidonians, call Hermon Sirion, —but, the Amorites, call it Senir.
— Les Sidoniens appellent l’Hermon Sarion, et les Amorrhéens Sanir; —
10 All the cities of the table-land, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, —unto Salecah, and Edrei, —cities of the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.
toutes les villes de la plaine, tout Galaad et tout Basan, jusqu’à Selcha et Edraï, villes du royaume d’Og en Basan.
11 For, only Og, king of Bashan was left remaining of the remnant of the giants, lo! his bedstead, was a bedstead of iron, is not, the same, in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? nine cubits, the length thereof and four cubits, the breadth thereof, by the fore-arm of a man.
Car Og, roi de Basan, était resté seul de la race des Rephaïm. Voici, son lit, un lit en fer, n’est-il pas à Rabbath, ville des enfants d’Ammon? Sa longueur est de neuf coudées, et sa largeur de quatre coudées, en coudées d’homme.
12 And this land, took we in possession at that time, —from Aroer which is by the ravine of Arnon, and half the hill-country of Gilead and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites;
Nous prîmes alors possession de ce pays. Je donnai aux Rubénites et aux Gadites le territoire à partir d’Aroër qui domine la vallée de l’Arnon, ainsi que la moitié de la montagne de Galaad avec ses villes.
13 but the remainder of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh, —all the region of the Argob with all Bashan. The same, is called, A land of giants.
Je donnai à la demi-tribu de Manassé le reste de Galaad et toute la partie de Basan formant le royaume d’Og. — Toute la contrée d’Argob, avec tout Basan, c’est ce qu’on appelle le pays des Rephaïm.
14 Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the region of Argob, as far as the boundary of the Geshurites, and the Maachathites, —and called them after his own name The Bashan of Havvoth-jair unto this day.
Jaïr, fils de Manassé, obtint toute la contrée d’Argob jusqu’à la frontière des Gessuriens et des Macathiens, et il donna son nom aux bourgs de Basan, appelés Bourgs de Jaïr, jusqu’à ce jour. —
15 And, unto Machir, gave I Gilead;
Je donnai Galaad à Machir.
16 And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites, gave I—from Gilead even as far as the ravine of Arnon, the middle of the ravine and boundary, —even as far as the Jabbok ravine, the boundary of the sons of Ammon;
Aux Rubénites et aux Gadites, je donnai une partie de Galaad et le pays jusqu’au torrent de l’Arnon, le milieu de la vallée servant de limite, et jusqu’au torrent de Jaboc, frontière des enfants d’Ammon,
17 the Waste Plain also and the Jordan and boundary, —from Chinnereth, even as far as the sea of the Waste Plain the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah, on the east.
ainsi que l’Arabah, avec le Jourdain pour limite, depuis Cénéreth jusqu’à la mer de l’Arabah, la mer Salée, au pied des pentes du Phasga, vers l’Orient.
18 So I commanded you, at that time saying, —Yahweh your God hath given unto you this land to possess it, armed, shall ye pass over before your brethren the sons of Israel all the sons of valour,
En ce temps-là, je vous donnai cet ordre: « Yahweh, votre Dieu, vous à donné ce pays pour qu’il soit votre propriété; vous tous, hommes forts, vous marcherez en armes devant vos frères, les enfants d’Israël.
19 Only, your wives and your little ones and your cattle—I know that ye have much cattle—shall abide in your cities which I have given unto you;
Vos femmes seulement, vos petits enfants et vos troupeaux, — je sais que vous avez de nombreux troupeaux, — resteront dans les villes que je vous ai données,
20 until that Yahweh shall give rest unto your brethren, as well as you, so shall, they too, possess the land which, Yahweh your God, is giving unto them, over the Jordan, —then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given unto you.
jusqu’à ce que Yahweh ait accordé le repos à vos frères comme à vous, et qu’ils possèdent, eux aussi, le pays que Yahweh, votre Dieu, leur donne de l’autre côté du Jourdain. Alors vous retournerez chacun dans l’héritage que je vous ai donné. »
21 Joshua also, commanded I, at that time saying, —Thine are the eyes, that have seen all that Yahweh your God hath done unto these two kings, thus, will Yahweh do unto all the kingdoms whereunto thou, art passing over:
En ce temps-là, je donnai aussi des ordres à Josué, en disant: « Tes yeux ont vu tout ce que Yahweh, votre Dieu, a fait à ces deux rois: ainsi fera Yahweh à tous les royaumes contre lesquels tu vas marcher.
22 ye shall not fear them, —for, Yahweh your God, he, it is that is fighting for you.
Ne les craignez pas; car Yahweh, votre Dieu, combat lui-même pour vous. »
23 Then sought I Yahweh at that time, for a favour saying:
En ce temps-là, je suppliai Yahweh, en disant:
24 My Lord Yahweh, thou thyself, hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy firm hand, —as to which, what GOD is there, in the heavens or in the earth, that can do according to thy doings, and according to thy mighty deeds?
« Seigneur Yahweh, vous avez commencé à montrer à votre serviteur votre grandeur et votre main puissante; car quel Dieu y a-t-il, au ciel et sur la terre, qui puisse accomplir vos œuvres et vos hauts faits?
25 Let me pass over, I pray thee that I may see the good land that is over the Jordan, —this good mountain, and the Lebanon.
Que je passe, je vous prie, que je voie ce bon pays au-delà du Jourdain, cette belle montagne et le Liban! »
26 But Yahweh had been provoked with me for your sakes, and hearkened not unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me, Enough for thee! do not add a word unto me further in this matter.
Mais Yahweh s’irrita contre moi, à cause de vous, et il ne m’exauça pas. Yahweh me dit: « C’est assez, ne me parle plus de cette affaire.
27 Ascend the top of the Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes—westward, and northward and southward and eastward—and see with thine own eyes, —for thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.
Monte au sommet du Phasga, porte tes regards vers l’occident, vers le nord, vers le midi et vers l’orient, et contemple de tes yeux; car tu ne passeras pas ce Jourdain.
28 But command thou Joshua and confirm him and embolden him, —for, he, shall pass over before this people, and, he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.
Donne des ordres à Josué, fortifie le et encourage-le, car c’est lui qui marchera devant ce peuple et qui le mettra en possession du pays que tu verras. »
29 So we abode in the valley, over against Beth-peor.
Nous demeurâmes dans la vallée, vis-à-vis de Beth-Phogor.
