< Deuteronomy 27 >

1 And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people saying, —Observe all the commandment which I am commanding you to-day.
Moses [Drawn out] and the elders of Israel [God prevails] enjoined the people, saying, “Keep all the mitzvot ·instructions· and statutes which I enjoin you today.
2 So then it shall be in the day when ye shall pass over the Jordan, into the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, —that thou shalt rear thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster;
It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Jordan [Descender] to the land which Adonai your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and coat them with plaster.
3 and shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou shalt pass over, —to the end that thou mayest enter upon the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh the God of thy fathers hath spoken unto thee.
You shall write on them all the words of this Torah ·Teaching·, when you have passed over; that you may go in to the land which Adonai your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Adonai, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
4 So then it shall be when ye shall pass over the Jordan, that ye shall rear up these stones which I am commanding you to-day in Mount Ebal, —and thou shalt plaster them with plaster.
It shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan [Descender], that you shall set up these stones, which I enjoin you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall coat them with plaster.
5 And thou shalt build there an altar unto Yahweh thy God, —an altar of stones, thou shalt not wield thereupon any tool of iron.
There you shall build an altar to Adonai your God, an altar of stones. You shall not use any iron tool on them.
6 Of whole stones, shalt thou build the altar of Yahweh thy God, —then shalt thou cause to go up thereon ascending-sacrifices, unto Yahweh thy God;
You shall build Adonai your God’s altar of uncut stones. You shall offer burnt offerings on it to Adonai your God.
7 and thou shalt sacrifice peace-offerings and shalt eat there, —and rejoice before Yahweh thy God.
You shall sacrifice peace offerings, and shall eat there. You shall rejoice before Adonai your God.
8 And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law doing it plainly and well.
You shall write on the stones all the words of this Torah ·Teaching· very plainly.”
9 And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel saying, —Keep silence and hear O Israel, This day, hast thou been made a people unto Yahweh thy God.
Moses [Drawn out] and the priests the Levites [Descendants of United with] spoke to all Israel [God prevails], saying, “Be silent, and sh'ma ·hear obey·, Israel [God prevails]! Today you have become the people of Adonai your God.
10 Thou shalt therefore hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, —and do his commandments and his statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day.
You shall therefore sh'ma ·hear obey· Adonai your God’s voice, and do his instructions and his statutes, which I enjoin you today.”
11 And Moses commanded the people on that day, saying:
Moses [Drawn out] enjoined the people the same day, saying,
12 These, shall stand to bless the people upon Mount Gerizim, when ye have passed over the Jordan, —Simeon and Levi and Judah, and Issachar and Joseph and Benjamin;
“These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have crossed over the Jordan [Descender]: Simeon [Hearing], Levi [United with], Judah [Praised], Issachar [Hire, Reward], Joseph [May he add], and Benjamin [Son of right hand, Son of south].
13 and, these, shall stand by the curse in Mount Ebal, —Reuben Gad and Asher, and Zebulun Dan and Naphtali.
These shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben [See, a son!], Gad [Good fortune], Asher [Happy], Zebulun [Living together], Dan [He judged], and Naphtali [My wrestling].
14 Then shall the Levites respond and say unto every man of Israel with voice uplifted: —
With a loud voice, the Levites [Descendants of United with] shall say to all the men of Israel [God prevails],
15 Cursed, be the man that maketh an image—cut or molten—an abomination unto Yahweh the work of the hands of the craftsman and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall respond and say—Amen.
‘Cursed is the man who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to Adonai, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ All the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
16 Cursed, be he that holdeth in light esteem his father or his mother. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
17 Cursed, be he that moveth back the boundary of his neighbour. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who removes his neighbor’s landmark.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
18 Cursed, be he that causeth the blind to wander in the way. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who leads the blind astray on the road.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
19 Cursed, be he that perverteth the right of the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who withholds mishpat ·justice· from the foreigner, orphan, and widow.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
20 Cursed, be he that lieth with his father’s wife, because he hath turned aside his father’s coverlet. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who lies with his father’s wife, because he dishonors his father’s bed.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
21 Cursed, be he that lieth with any beast. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who lies with any kind of animal.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
22 Cursed, be he that lieth with his sister, daughter of his father or daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who lies with his sister, his father’s daughter or his mother’s daughter.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
23 Cursed, be he that lieth with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
24 Cursed, be he that smiteth his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who secretly kills his neighbor.’ ‘All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
25 Cursed, be he that taketh a bribe to shed innocent blood. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ All the people shall say, ‘Amen ·So be it·.’
26 Cursed, be he that establisheth not the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say—Amen.
‘Cursed is he who does not uphold the words of this Torah ·Teaching· by doing them.’ ‘All the people shall say, “Amen ·So be it·.’”
