Deuteronomy 17

1 Thou shalt not sacrifice unto Yahweh thy God a bullock or a sheep wherein is a blemish, any unseemly thing: for an abomination unto Yahweh thy God, it would be.

Δεν θέλεις θυσιάσει εις Κύριον τον Θεόν σου βουν ή πρόβατον έχον μώμον ή οιονδήποτε ελάττωμα· διότι είναι βδέλυγμα εις Κύριον τον Θεόν σου.

2 When there shall be found in thy midst, within any of thy gates, which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, man or woman who doeth the thing which is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God by transgressing his covenant;

Εάν ευρεθή εν μέσω σου, εν τινί των πόλεών σου τας οποίας Κύριος ο Θεός σου δίδει εις σε, ανήρ ή γυνή όστις έπραξε κακόν ενώπιον Κυρίου του Θεού σου, παραβαίνων την διαθήκην αυτού,

3 yea hath gone, and served other gods, and bowed down unto them, —whether unto the sun or unto the moon or unto any of the host of the heavens which I have not commanded;

και απελθών ελάτρευσεν άλλους θεούς και προσεκύνησεν αυτούς, τον ήλιον ή την σελήνην ή οποιονδήποτε εκ της στρατιάς του ουρανού, το οποίον δεν προσέταξα·

4 and it shall be told thee and thou shalt hear, —and shalt enquire diligently, and lo! true—certain, is the report, this abominable thing hath been done in Israel,

και αναγγελθή προς σε, και ακούσης και επιμελώς εξετάσης και ιδού, είναι αλήθεια και βέβαιον το πράγμα, ότι επράχθη τοιούτον βδέλυγμα εν τω Ισραήλ·

5 then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman who hath done this wicked thing, within thy gates—the man, or the woman, —and shalt stone them with stones that they die.

τότε θέλεις φέρει έξω εις τας πύλας σου τον άνδρα εκείνον ή την γυναίκα εκείνην, οίτινες έπραξαν το κακόν τούτο πράγμα, τον άνδρα ή την γυναίκα· και θέλεις λιθοβολήσει αυτούς με λίθους, και θέλουσιν αποθάνει.

6 At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death, —he shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.

Επί στόματος δύο μαρτύρων ή τριών μαρτύρων θέλει θανατόνεσθαι ο άξιος θανάτου· επί στόματος ενός μάρτυρος δεν θέλει θανατόνεσθαι.

7 The hand of the witnesses, shall be upon him first to put him to death, and the hand of all the people, afterwards, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst.

Αι χείρες των μαρτύρων θέλουσιν είσθαι αι πρώται επ' αυτόν, εις το να θανατώσωσιν αυτόν, και έπειτα αι χείρες παντός του λαού. Ούτω θέλεις εκβάλει το κακόν εκ μέσου σου.

8 When any matter of judgment, shall be too difficult for thee—between blood and blood between plea and plea or between stroke and stroke, matters of contention within thy gates, then shalt thou arise and go up unto the place which Yahweh thy God shall choose;

Εάν τύχη εις σε υπόθεσίς τις πολύ δύσκολος να κρίνης αυτήν, αναμέσον αίματος και αίματος, αναμέσον δίκης και δίκης, και αναμέσον πληγής και πληγής, υποθέσεις αμφισβητήσιμοι εντός των πόλεών σου, τότε θέλεις σηκωθή και θέλεις αναβή εις τον τόπον όντινα εκλέξη Κύριος ο Θεός σου·

9 and shalt come in unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge who shall be in those days, —and shalt enquire and they shall declare unto thee, the sentence of judgment;

και θέλεις υπάγει προς τους ιερείς τους Λευΐτας και προς τον κριτήν τον όντα κατ' εκείνας τας ημέρας, και θέλεις ερωτήσει και θέλουσιν αναγγείλει προς σε την απόφασιν της κρίσεως·

10 and thou shalt do according to the sentence which they shall declare unto thee, out of that place, which Yahweh, shall choose, —yea thou shalt observe to do according to all which they shall direct thee:

και θέλεις κάμει κατά την απόφασιν, την οποίαν σε αναγγείλωσιν εκ του τόπου εκείνου όντινα εκλέξη ο Κύριος· και θέλεις προσέξει να πράξης κατά πάντα όσα παραγγείλωσιν εις σε.

11 according to the direction wherewith they direct thee and after the judgment which they shall announce to thee, shalt thou do, —thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall declare unto thee to the right hand or to the left.

Κατά την απόφασιν του νόμου την οποίαν σε αναγγείλωσι, και κατά την κρίσιν την οποίαν σε είπωσι, θέλεις κάμει· δεν θέλεις εκκλίνει από του λόγου τον οποίον σε αναγγείλωσι, δεξιά ή αριστερά.

12 And, the man who shall do presumptuously by not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there to Yahweh thy God, or unto the judge, that man shall die, and so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of Israel.

Ο άνθρωπος δε όστις φερθή υπερηφάνως, ώστε να μη υπακούση εις τον ιερέα τον παριστάμενον να λειτουργή εκεί ενώπιον Κυρίου του Θεού σου, ή εις τον κριτήν, ο άνθρωπος εκείνος θέλει αποθάνει· και θέλεις εκβάλει το κακόν εκ του Ισραήλ.

13 And, all the people, shall hear and fear, —and shall not act presumptuously any more.

Και πας ο λαός θέλει ακούσει και φοβηθή, και δεν θέλουσιν υπερηφανεύεσθαι πλέον.

14 When thou shalt enter into the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, and shalt possess it and dwell therein, —and shalt say—I will set over me a king, like all the nations that are round about me,

Αφού εισέλθης εις την γην, την οποίαν δίδει εις σε Κύριος ο Θεός σου, και κληρονομήσης αυτήν και κατοικήσης εν αυτή και είπης, Θέλω καταστήσει βασιλέα επ' εμέ, καθώς πάντα τα έθνη τα πέριξ εμού,

15 thou shalt, set, over thee as king, him whom Yahweh thy God shall choose, —out of the midst of thy brethren, shalt thou set over thee a king, thou mayest not appoint over thee a man that is a foreigner, who is not thy brother.

θέλεις βέβαια καταστήσει βασιλέα επί σε, όντινα εκλέξη Κύριος ο Θεός σου· εκ των αδελφών σου θέλεις καταστήσει βασιλέα επί σέ· δεν δύνασαι να καταστήσης άνθρωπον ξένον επί σε, όστις δεν είναι αδελφός σου.

16 Moreover he shall not multiply to himself horses, neither shall he cause the people to return to Egypt that he may multiply horses, —when, Yahweh, hath said unto you, Ye shall not again return this way any more.

Πλην δεν θέλει πληθύνει ίππους εις εαυτόν, ουδέ θέλει επαναφέρει τον λαόν εις την Αίγυπτον, διά να αυξήση ίππους· διότι ο Κύριος είπε προς εσάς, Δεν θέλετε επιστρέψει πλέον δι' εκείνης της οδού.

17 Neither shall he multiply to himself wives, that his heart turn not aside, —nor silver and gold, shall he multiply to himself greatly.

Ουδέ θέλει πληθύνει εις εαυτόν γυναίκας, διά να μη αποπλανηθή η καρδία αυτού· ουδέ θέλει πληθύνει σφόδρα εις εαυτόν αργύριον και χρυσίον.

18 But it shall be when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, then shall he write for himself a copy of this law upon a scroll, out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

Και όταν καθήση επί του θρόνου της βασιλείας αυτού, θέλει γράψει δι' εαυτόν αντίγραφον του νόμου τούτου εις βιβλίον, εξ εκείνου το οποίον είναι ενώπιον των ιερέων των Λευϊτών·

19 so shall it be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life, —that he may learn to revere Yahweh his God, to observe all the words of this law and these statutes to do them:

και τούτο θέλει είσθαι πλησίον αυτού, και θέλει αναγινώσκει εν αυτώ πάσας τας ημέρας της ζωής αυτού· διά να μάθη να φοβήται Κύριον τον Θεόν αυτού, να φυλάττη πάντας τους λόγους του νόμου τούτου και τα διατάγματα ταύτα, ώστε να εκτελή αυτά·

20 that his heart may not be lifted up above his brethren, and he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, —that he may prolong his days over his kingdom—he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.

διά να μη υψωθή η καρδία αυτού υπεράνω των αδελφών αυτού, και διά να μη εκκλίνη από των εντολών δεξιά η αριστερά· όπως μακροημερεύση εν τη βασιλεία αυτού, αυτός και τα τέκνα αυτού, εν τω μέσω του Ισραήλ.
