Acts 2
1 And, when the day of pentecost was filling up [the number of days] they were all together with one intent; —
Quand fut arrivé le jour de la Pentecôte, ils étaient tous ensemble dans le même lieu.
2 When there came suddenly out of heaven a sound, just as of a mighty rushing wind, —and it filled all the house where they were sitting;
Tout à coup, il vint du ciel un bruit pareil à celui d'un vent qui souffle avec impétuosité, et il remplit toute la maison où ils étaient assis.
3 And there appeared unto them—parting asunder—tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them;
Alors ils virent paraître des langues séparées les unes des autres, qui étaient comme des langues de feu, et qui se posèrent sur chacun d'eux.
4 And they were all filled with Holy Spirit, and began to be speaking with other kinds of tongues just as the Spirit was giving unto them to be sounding forth.
Ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils commencèrent à parler en des langues étrangères, selon que l'Esprit leur donnait de s'exprimer.
5 Now there were in Jerusalem sojourning Jews, reverent men from every nation who were under heaven;
Or, il y avait, en séjour à Jérusalem, des Juifs, hommes pieux venus de toutes les nations qui sont sous le ciel.
6 And this sound occurring the throng came together and was thrown into confusion, because each one severally heard in his own language them who were speaking;
Quand ce bruit se fit entendre, la foule accourut, et tous furent étonnés de ce que chacun d'eux les entendait parler sa propre langue.
7 Yea they were beside themselves and did marvel, saying—Lo! are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans?
Ils en étaient tous hors d'eux-mêmes et remplis d'admiration, et ils disaient: Tous ces gens-là qui parlent, ne sont-ils pas des Galiléens?
8 How then do, we, hear each one in our own language in which we were born?
Comment donc chacun de nous les entend-il parler la propre langue du pays où il est né?
9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judaea also and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Parthes, Mèdes, Élamites, ceux qui habitent la Mésopotamie, la Judée, la Cappadoce, le Pont, l'Asie,
10 Phrygia also and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of the Libya that is towards Cyrene, and the sojourning Romans, —both Jews and proselytes,
la Phrygie, la Pamphylie, l'Egypte, le territoire de la Libye qui est près de Cyrène, et ceux qui sont venus de Rome, tant Juifs que proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speaking in our own tongues the magnificent things of God.
Cretois et Arabes, nous les entendons parler dans nos langues des choses magnifiques de Dieu.
12 But they were all beside themselves and were utterly at a loss, saying one to another—What doth this please to be?
Ils étaient tous hors d'eux-mêmes, et ne savaient que penser, se disant l'un à l'autre: Qu'est-ce que cela veut dire?
13 While, others, in mockery were saying—With sweet wine, are they drunken!
Mais d'autres disaient en se moquant: C'est qu'ils sont pleins de vin doux!
14 But, taking his stand, Peter with the eleven lifted up his voice, and sounded out unto them—Ye men of Judaea, and all ye who are sojourning in Jerusalem! Let, this, unto you be known, and give ear unto my declarations; —
Alors Pierre, se présentant avec les Onze, éleva la voix et leur dit: Hommes de la Judée, et vous tous qui êtes en séjour à Jérusalem, sachez bien ceci, et prêtez l'oreille à mes paroles.
15 For not, as, ye, suppose, are these men drunken, for it is the third hour of the day; —
Ces gens ne sont pas ivres, comme vous le supposez; car il n'est encore que la troisième heure du jour.
16 But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel—
Mais ce qui arrive a été prédit par le prophète Joël:
17 And it shall be, in the last days saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and, your young men, visions shall see and, your elders, in dreams shall dream, —
«Il arrivera, pendant les derniers jours, — c'est Dieu lui-même qui parle — que je répandrai de mon Esprit sur toute créature; vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, vos jeunes gens auront des visions, et vos vieillards auront des songes.
18 And, even upon my men-servants and upon my maid-servants in those days, will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy;
Oui, en ces jours-là, je répandrai de mon Esprit sur mes serviteurs et sur mes servantes, et ils prophétiseront.
19 And I will set forth wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath, —blood and fire and vapour of smoke:
Je ferai paraître des prodiges en haut dans le ciel, et des miracles en bas sur la terre: du sang, du feu, et des tourbillons de fumée.
20 The sun, shall be turned into darkness and, the moon, into blood, —before the coming of the day of the Lord, the great and manifest [day];
Le soleil sera changé en ténèbres, et la lune en sang, avant que vienne le grand et glorieux jour du Seigneur;
21 And it shall be—Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.
et il arrivera que quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur, sera sauvé.»
22 Ye men of Israel! hear these words: —Jesus the Nazarene, a man pointed out of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did through him in your midst, just as ye yourselves know,
Enfants d'Israël, écoutez ces paroles: Jésus de Nazareth, cet homme à qui Dieu a rendu témoignage parmi vous par les actes de puissance, les prodiges et les miracles qu'il a opérés par son moyen au milieu de vous, comme vous le savez vous-mêmes,
23 The same, by the marked out counsel and foreknowledge of God given up, through the hands of lawless men, suspending, ye slew,
— cet homme, livré selon le dessein arrêté et la prescience de Dieu, vous l'avez fait mourir par la main des impies, en le clouant à la croix.
24 Whom, God, raised up, loosing the pangs of death, inasmuch as it was, not possible, for him to continue held fast by it.
Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité, en le délivrant des douleurs de la mort, parce qu'il n'était pas possible qu'elle le retînt en sa puissance.
25 For, David, saith concerning him—I foresaw the Lord before me continually, because he is, on my right hand, that I may not be shaken;
En effet, David dit de lui: «Je voyais toujours le Seigneur devant moi; car il est à ma droite, afin que je ne sois point ébranlé.
26 For this reason, was my heart made glad and my tongue exulted, —ye further, even my flesh, shall encamp on hope:
C'est pour cela que mon coeur s'est réjoui, et que ma langue a fait entendre un chant d'allégresse. Ma chair elle-même, remplie d'espérance, trouvera le repos;
27 Because thou wilt not abandon my soul unto hades, neither wilt thou give thy man of lovingkindness to see corruption; (Hadēs g86)
car tu n'abandonneras pas mon âme dans le Séjour des morts, et tu ne. permettras pas que ton Saint voie la corruption. (Hadēs g86)
28 Thou madest known unto me paths of life, thou wilt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.
Tu m'as fait connaître les sentiers de la vie; tu me rempliras de joie par ta présence.»
29 Brethren! it is, allowable, to say with freedom of speech unto you, concerning the patriarch David, —that he both died and was buried, and, his tomb, is among us until this day.
Mes frères, permettez-moi de vous dire en toute liberté, au sujet du patriarche David, qu'il est mort, qu'il a été enseveli, et que son tombeau est encore aujourd'hui au milieu de nous.
30 Being then, a prophet, and knowing that, with an oath, God had sworn unto him, of the fruit of his loins, to seat on his throne,
Mais, étant prophète et sachant que Dieu lui avait promis avec serment de faire asseoir un de ses descendants sur son trône,
31 With foresight, spake he concerning the resurrection of the Christ—that neither was he abandoned unto hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. (Hadēs g86)
c'est la résurrection du Christ qu'il a prévue et dont il a parlé en disant: «Il n'a pas été laissé dans le Séjour des morts, et sa chair n'a pas vu la corruption.» (Hadēs g86)
32 The same Jesus, hath God raised up, whereof, all we, are witnesses!
Ce Jésus, en effet, Dieu l'a ressuscité, et nous en sommes tous témoins.
33 By the right hand of God, therefore, having been exalted, also, the promise of the Holy Spirit, having received from the Father, He hath poured out this which, yourselves, do see and hear.
Après donc qu'il a été élevé à la droite de Dieu, et qu'il a reçu du Père le Saint-Esprit qui avait été promis, il l'a répandu, comme vous le voyez et l'entendez.
34 For, David, hath not ascended into the heavens; but he saith, himself, —Said the Lord unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
Car David n'est pas monté au ciel; mais il dit lui-même: «Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite,
35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis sous tes pieds, pour te servir de marche-pied».
36 Assuredly, then, let all the house of Israel know: that, both Lord and Christ, hath God made him, even the same Jesus whom, ye, crucified!
Que toute la maison d'Israël tienne donc pour certain que Dieu a fait Seigneur et Christ ce Jésus que vous avez crucifié.
37 And, when they heard this, they were pricked to the heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles—What are we to do, brethren?
En entendant ces paroles, ils furent touchés jusqu'au fond du coeur, et ils dirent à Pierre et aux autres apôtres: Frères, que ferons-nous?
38 And Peter [said] unto them—Repent ye, and let each one of you be immersed, in the name of Jesus Christ, into the remission of your sins, —and ye shall receive the free-gift of the Holy Spirit;
Pierre leur répondit: Convertissez-vous, et que chacun de vous soit baptisé au nom de Jésus-Christ pour obtenir la rémission de ses péchés; et vous recevrez le don du Saint-Esprit.
39 For, unto you, is the promise, and unto your children, —and unto all them who are afar off: as many soever as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
Car la promesse est pour vous, pour vos enfants, et pour tous ceux qui sont au loin, en aussi grand nombre que le Seigneur, notre Dieu, en appellera.
40 And, with many different words, bare he frail witness, and went on exhorting them saying—Be saved from this perverse generation!
Puis, par beaucoup d'autres paroles, il leur adressait les exhortations les plus pressantes, en disant: Sauvez-vous du milieu de cette race perverse!
41 They, therefore, who welcomed his word, were immersed; and there were added, on that day, about three thousand souls.
Ceux qui accueillirent la prédication de Pierre furent donc baptisés; et il y eut, ce jour-là, environ trois mille personnes ajoutées à l'Eglise.
42 And they went on to give constant attention—unto the teaching of the apostles, and unto the fellowship, unto the breaking of bread, and unto the prayers.
Or, ils persévéraient dans la doctrine des apôtres et dans la communion fraternelle; ils rompaient le pain et priaient ensemble.
43 And there came on every soul, fear, and, many wonders and signs, through means of the apostles, were coming to pass.
La crainte était dans tous les coeurs, et beaucoup de prodiges et de miracles étaient opérés par les apôtres.
44 And, all who believed, with one accord, began to hold all things common;
Tous ceux qui croyaient étaient ensemble et avaient toutes choses en commun;
45 and, their possessions and goods, were they selling and distributing them unto all, in so far as anyone had need.
ils vendaient leurs propriétés et leurs biens, et ils en partageaient le prix entre tous, selon les besoins de chacun.
46 And, daily giving attendance with one intent in the temple and, at home, breaking bread, they were partaking of food with exultation and singleness of heart;
Chaque jour, tous ensemble, ils allaient assidûment au temple; dans leurs maisons, ils rompaient le pain et prenaient leurs repas avec joie et simplicité de coeur,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And, the Lord, was adding them who were being saved, daily, together.
louant Dieu et se rendant agréables à tout le peuple. Et le Seigneur ajoutait tous les jours à l'Église ceux qui étaient sauvés.
