Acts 18

1 After these things, withdrawing from Athens, he came unto Corinth;

Après cela, Paul, étant parti d'Athènes, vint à Corinthe.

2 and, finding a certain Jew, by name Aquila, of Pontus by birth, —lately come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to be leaving Rome, he came unto them,

Il y trouva un Juif, nommé Aquilas, originaire du Pont, récemment arrivé d'Italie avec Priscille, sa femme, parce que Claude avait ordonné à tous les Juifs de s'éloigner de Rome; et il se joignit à eux.

3 and, because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought, for they were tent-makers by their trade.

Comme Paul exerçait le même métier, il demeura chez eux, et ils travaillaient ensemble; or, leur métier était de faire des tentes.

4 And he began reasoning in the synagogue every sabbath, and was persuading both Jews and Greeks.

Paul parlait dans la synagogue tous les jours de sabbat, et il persuadait les Juifs et les Grecs.

5 When, however, both Silas and Timothy had come down from Macedonia, Paul began to be urged on in the word, bearing full witness unto the Jews that, Jesus, was, the Christ.

Quand Silas et Timothée arrivèrent de Macédoine, Paul s'adonnait de toute son âme à la prédication, attestant aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.

6 But, as they began opposing and defaming, shaking out his garments, he said unto them—Your blood, be upon your own head! Pure, am, I: henceforth, unto the nations, will I go.

Mais, comme ils s'opposaient à lui et l'injuriaient, il secoua ses vêtements et leur dit: Que votre sang retombe sur votre tête! Pour moi, j'en suis net; dès maintenant, j'irai vers les Païens.

7 And, removing from thence, he came into the house of a certain man by name Titius Justus, who worshipped God, whose house was adjoining unto the synagogue.

Etant sorti de là, il entra chez un certain Titius Justus, homme craignant Dieu et dont la maison touchait à la synagogue.

8 But, Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, with all his house. And, many of the Corinthians, hearing, were believing, and being immersed.

Cependant Crispus, le chef de la synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa maison; et plusieurs des Corinthiens, ayant entendu Paul, crurent aussi et furent baptisés.

9 And the Lord said by night, through means of a vision, unto Paul—Be not afraid! but be speaking, —and do not hold thy peace;

Le Seigneur dit à Paul pendant la nuit, dans une vision: Ne crains rien; mais parle et ne te tais point!

10 Inasmuch as, I, am with thee, and, no one, shall set upon thee to harm thee; inasmuch as I have much people in this city.

Je suis avec toi, et personne ne mettra la main sur toi, pour te faire du mal; car j'ai un grand peuple dans cette ville.

11 And he remained a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.

Paul demeura là un an et six mois, enseignant parmi eux la parole de Dieu.

12 But, when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews, with one accord, set upon Paul, and led him unto the judgment-seat,

Lorsque Gallion était proconsul d'Achaïe, les Juifs, d'un commun accord, s'élevèrent contre Paul et l'amenèrent au tribunal, en disant:

13 saying—Contrary to the law, is this one seducing men to be worshipping God.

Cet homme excite les gens à adorer Dieu d'une manière contraire à la loi.

14 But, as Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews—If, indeed, it had been some wrong or wicked recklessness, O Jews, with reason, in that case, should I have been bearing with you.

Comme Paul ouvrait la bouche pour répondre, Gallion dit aux Juifs: S'il s'agissait, ô Juifs, de quelque injustice ou de quelque crime, je vous écouterais patiemment, comme de raison.

15 If, however, they are questions concerning discourse, and names, and law, that which ye have, ye shall see to it, yourselves; A judge of these things, I, am not disposed to be.

Mais puisqu'il s'agit de discussions sur une doctrine, sur des noms et sur votre loi particulière, examinez cela vous-mêmes; je ne veux pas être juge de ces choses.

16 And he drove them from the judgment-seat.

Puis il les renvoya du tribunal.

17 But they all, laying hold of Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, began to strike him before the judgment-seat; and, for none of these things, did Gallio care.

Alors tous, ayant saisi Sosthène, le chef de la synagogue, le battaient devant le tribunal; mais Gallion ne s'en souciait pas.

18 Paul, however, still further abiding a good many days with the brethren, bidding them adieu, set sail for Syria; and, with him, Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.

Paul resta encore quelque temps à Corinthe. Il prit ensuite congé des frères et s'embarqua pour la Syrie avec Priscille et Aquilas, après s'être fait raser la tête à Cenchrées; car il avait fait un voeu.

19 And they came down to Ephesus; and, as for them, he left them there, —but, himself entering into the synagogue, he reasoned with the Jews.

Puis ils arrivèrent à Ephèse, où il laissa ses compagnons. Pour lui, il entra dans la synagogue et s'entretint avec les Juifs.

20 And, when they requested him for a longer time to abide, he consented not;

Alors ils lui demandèrent de rester plus longtemps, mais il n'y consentit pas.

21 but, bidding them adieu, and saying—Again, will I return unto you, God willing, he sailed away from Ephesus;

Il prit congé d'eux, en disant: Je reviendrai une autre fois chez vous, s'il plaît à Dieu; et il partit d'Éphèse.

22 and, putting in at Caesarea, going up and saluting the assembly, went down unto Antioch;

Étant débarqué à Césarée, il monta à Jérusalem; et, après avoir salué l'Église, il descendit à Antioche.

23 and, spending some time, he went forth, passing through, in order, the country of Galatia and Phrygia, confirming all the disciples.

Lorsqu'il y eut passé quelque temps, il en repartit, et il parcourut successivement la Galatie et la Phrygie, affermissant tous les disciples.

24 But, a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by birth, a learned man, came down to Ephesus, being, mighty, in the Scriptures.

Cependant un Juif, nommé Apollos, natif d'Alexandrie, homme éloquent et très versé dans les Écritures, arriva à Éphèse.

25 The same, had been orally taught the way of the Lord, and, being fervent in his spirit, began speaking and teaching accurately, the things concerning Jesus, —properly knowing, only the immersion of John.

Il avait été instruit dans la voie du Seigneur; il parlait avec une grande ferveur, et il enseignait avec exactitude ce qui concerne Jésus, bien qu'il n'eût connaissance que du baptême de Jean.

26 The same, also began speaking boldly in the synagogue; and Priscilla and Aquila, hearing him, took him unto them, and, more accurately, expounded unto him the way of God.

Il commença donc à parler avec hardiesse dans la synagogue. Priscille et Aquilas, l'ayant entendu, le prirent avec eux et lui exposèrent plus exactement encore la voie de Dieu.

27 And, he being minded to pass through into Achaia, the brethren urgently wrote unto the disciples to welcome him, —who, arriving, was very useful unto them who had believed, with his gift;

Comme Apollos voulait passer en Achaïe, les frères l'y encouragèrent et écrivirent aux disciples de lui faire bon accueil. Quand il fut arrivé, il se rendit très utile, par la grâce de Dieu, à ceux qui avaient cru.

28 for, with great force, began he confuting the Jews, publicly, shewing by the Scriptures that Jesus was, the Christ.

Car il réfutait publiquement les Juifs avec une grande force, démontrant par les Écritures que Jésus est le Christ.
