2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, through the will of God, —according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus; —

Paul Apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est en Jésus-Christ,

2 Unto Timothy, my beloved child: Favour, mercy, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.

à Timothée mon enfant bien-aimé: que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données par Dieu, notre Père, et par Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur!

3 Grateful, am I, unto God, —unto whom I am rendering divine service from my progenitors in a pure conscience, that, incessant, hold I the remembrance, concerning thee, in my supplications; day and night,

Je rends grâces à Dieu, qu'ont servi mes ancêtres, et que je sers avec une conscience pure, de la manière dont tu es toujours présent à ma pensée dans mes prières, le jour et la nuit.

4 longing to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, —in order that, with joy, I may be filled:

Je me rappelle les larmes que tu as versées à ton départ, et j'ai besoin de te voir, afin d'être rempli de joie.

5 A reminder, having received, of the unfeigned faith, that is in thee, —such, as dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, —I am persuaded, moreover, that [it dwelleth], in thee also.

Je me souviens aussi de la foi sincère qui t'animait: elle habita d'abord dans Loïs, ton aïeule, et dans Eunice. ta mère, et j'ai la conviction qu'elle habite aussi en toi.

6 For which cause, I put thee in remembrance, to be stirring up God’s gift of favour, which is in thee through means of the laying on of my hands;

C'est une raison pour moi de te rappeler d'attiser le feu de la grâce que tu as reçue de Dieu, lorsque je t'imposai les mains,

7 For God hath not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and love, and correction.

car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de timidité, mais un esprit de force, d'amour et de sagesse.

8 Be not thou, therefore, put to shame—with regard to the witness of our Lord, nor with regard to me his prisoner; but suffer hardship together with the glad-message according to the power of God, —

N'aie donc point honte du témoignage que tu dois rendre de notre Seigneur, ni de moi qui suis son prisonnier; mais sache souffrir avec moi pour l’Evangile par la puissance que Dieu donne.

9 Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to the peculiar purpose and favour—which was given to us in Christ Jesus before age-during times, (aiōnios g166)

C'est lui qui nous a sauvés, et nous a adressé un saint appel, non en vertu de nos oeuvres, mais ensuite d'un dessein qui lui est propre, et d'une grâce qui nous a été faite de toute éternité en Jésus-Christ, (aiōnios g166)

10 But hath now been made manifest through means of the forthshining of our Saviour Christ Jesus, —Who, indeed, hath abolished death, and hath thrown light upon life and incorruptibility, through means of the glad-message:

quoiqu'elle n'ait été manifestée que maintenant, par la venue de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, qui a aboli la mort, et a mis en lumière la vie et l'immortalité par l'évangile.

11 Whereunto, I, have been appointed herald and apostle and teacher;

C'est pour cet évangile que j'ai été établi prédicateur, apôtre et docteur des Gentils,

12 For which cause, these things also, am I suffering; nevertheless I am not being put to shame, for I know him whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is, able, to guard, that which I have entrusted, [to him] unto, that, day.

et c'est ce qui m'a attiré tous les maux que j'endure. Mais je n'en ai point honte, car je sais en qui j'ai cru, et j'ai la conviction qu'il a la puissance de garder mon dépôt pour le grand jour.

13 An outline, have thou, of healthful discourses which from me thou hast heard—with the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus:

Conserve, dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ, le modèle des leçons morales que tu tiens de moi;

14 The noble thing entrusted [to thee], do thou guard, through means of the Holy Spirit which dwelleth within us.

garde ce précieux dépôt par l'Esprit-Saint qui habite en nous.

15 Thou knowest this—that all they who are in Asia have turned away from me, —of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m'ont abandonné, entre autres Phygelles et Hermogènes.

16 The Lord grant mercy unto the house, of Onesiphorus, in that, ofttimes, hath he refreshed me, and, as regardeth my chain, hath not been put to shame,

Que le Seigneur étende sa miséricorde sur la famille d'Onésiphore, car il m'a souvent réconforté, et il n'a point eu honte de la chaîne que je porte;

17 But, happening to be in Rome, he diligently sought out and found me, —

au contraire, dès son arrivée à Rome, il m'a cherché soigneusement, et il m'a trouvé.

18 The Lord grant him to find mercy from [the] Lord in, that, day; —and, how many times, in Ephesus, he hath ministered, better art, thou, getting to know.

Que le Seigneur lui donne de trouver miséricorde auprès du Seigneur dans le grand jour. D'ailleurs tu sais mieux que personne tous les services qu'il m'a rendus à Éphèse.
