2 Kings 18
1 And it came to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
૧હવે ઇઝરાયલના રાજા એલાના દીકરા હોશિયાના કારકિર્દીને ત્રીજા વર્ષે યહૂદિયાના રાજા આહાઝનો દીકરો હિઝકિયા રાજ કરવા લાગ્યો.
2 Twenty-five years old, was he when he began to reign, and, twenty-nine years, reigned he in Jerusalem, —and, his mother’s name, was Abi, daughter of Zachariah.
૨તે રાજ કરવા લાગ્યો ત્યારે તે પચીસ વર્ષનો હતો, તેણે યરુશાલેમમાં ઓગણત્રીસ વર્ષ સુધી રાજ કર્યુ. તેની માતાનું નામ અબિયા હતું અને તે ઝખાર્યાની દીકરી હતી.
3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, —according to all that, David his father, did.
૩તેણે પોતાના પિતૃ દાઉદે જે કર્યું હતું તેમ યહોવાહની દ્રષ્ટિમાં જે સારું હતું તે કર્યું.
4 He, removed the high places, and brake in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Sacred Stem, —and beat in pieces the serpent of bronze that, Moses, had made, because, until those days, had the sons of Israel been burning incense thereunto, so he called it Nehushtan.
૪તેણે ઉચ્ચસ્થાનો કાઢી નાખ્યાં, સ્તંભો તોડી નાખ્યા અને અશેરાની મૂર્તિ કાપી નાખી. તેણે મૂસાએ બનાવેલા પિત્તળના સાપને તોડી ટુકડાં કરી નાખ્યા, કેમ કે, તે દિવસોમાં ઇઝરાયલ લોકો ધૂપ બાળતા હતા, તેથી તેનું નામ “નહુશ્તાન” પાડ્યું હતું.
5 In Yahweh, God of Israel, did he trust, —so that, after him, was none like him, among all the kings of Judah, nor that were before him;
૫હિઝકિયા ઇઝરાયલના યહોવાહ ઈશ્વર પર ભરોસો રાખતો હતો, માટે તેની અગાઉ કે તેના પછી થયેલા યહૂદાના રાજાઓમાં તેના જેવો કોઈ થયો કે થવાનો ન હતો.
6 and he did cleave unto Yahweh, he turned not away from following him, —but kept his commandments, which, Yahweh, commanded, Moses.
૬તે યહોવાહને વળગી રહ્યો. તેમનું અનુકરણ કરવાનું તેણે છોડ્યું નહિ પણ યહોવાહની આજ્ઞાઓ જે તેમણે મૂસાને આપી હતી તે તેણે પાળી.
7 So Yahweh was with him, whithersoever he went forth, he prospered, —and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.
૭તેથી યહોવાહ હિઝકિયાની સાથે રહ્યા અને જયાં જયાં તે ગયો ત્યાં ત્યાં તે સફળ થયો. તેણે આશ્શૂરના રાજા સામે બળવો કર્યો અને તેની તાબેદારી કરી નહિ.
8 He, smote the Philistines, as far as Gazah, and her boundaries, —from the watchmen’s tower even to the fortified city.
૮તેણે પલિસ્તીઓને ગાઝા તથા તેની સરહદની ચારેબાજુ સુધી, ચોકીદારોના કિલ્લાથી તે કોટવાળા નગર સુધી તેઓના પર હુમલો કર્યો.
9 And it came to pass, in the fourth year of King Hezekiah—the same, was the seventh year of Hosea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and laid siege against it;
૯હિઝકિયા રાજાના કારકિર્દીને ચોથા વર્ષે એટલે કે ઇઝરાયલના રાજા એલાના દીકરા હોશિયા રાજાના કારકિર્દીને સાતમા વર્ષે એમ થયું કે આશ્શૂરના રાજા શાલ્માનેસેરે સમરુન પર આક્રમણ કરીને તેને ઘેરી લીધું.
10 and he captured it at the end of three years, in the sixth year of Hezekiah, —the same, is the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, was Samaria captured.
૧૦ત્રીજા વર્ષના અંતે તેઓએ તેને જીતી લીધું, એટલે કે હિઝકિયાના કારકિર્દીને છઠ્ઠા વર્ષે, જે ઇઝરાયલના રાજા હોશિયાના કારકિર્દીને નવમા વર્ષે સમરુનને કબજે કરવામાં આવ્યું.
11 So the king of Assyria drave away Israel to Assyria, —and settled them in Halah, and in Habor, by the river of Gozan, and the mountains of Media:
૧૧આશ્શૂરનો રાજા ઇઝરાયલીઓને પકડીને આશ્શૂરમાં લઈ ગયો, તેઓને હલાહમાં, ગોઝાન નદી પર આવેલા હાબોરમાં અને માદીઓનાં નગરોમાં રાખ્યા.
12 because they hearkened not unto the voice of Yahweh their God, but transgressed his covenant, all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, —they neither hearkened nor performed.
૧૨કેમ કે, તેઓએ પોતાના ઈશ્વર યહોવાહની વાણી સાંભળી નહિ, પણ તેમના કરારનું એટલે યહોવાહના સેવક મૂસાએ જે બધી આજ્ઞાઓ આપી હતી તેની અવગણના કરી. તેઓએ તેનું સાંભળ્યું નહિ અને તે પ્રમાણે કર્યું નહિ.
13 And, in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, came up Sennacherib king of Assyria, against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
૧૩હિઝકિયા રાજાના કારકિર્દીને ચૌદમા વર્ષે આશ્શૂરના રાજા સાન્હેરીબે યહૂદિયાના બધાં કોટવાળા નગરો પર ચઢાઈ કરીને તેને કબજે કરી લીધાં.
14 Then sent Hezekiah king of Judah unto the king of Assyria, to Lachish, saying—I have sinned, Return from me, What thou shalt lay upon me, I will bear. So the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah, three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold.
૧૪માટે યહૂદિયાના રાજા હિઝકિયાએ લાખીશમાં આશ્શૂરના રાજાને સંદેશો મોકલીને કહાવ્યું કે, “મેં તને નારાજ કર્યો છે. હવે અહીંથી પાછો જા. તું જે શરતો મારી આગળ મૂકશે તેનો હું સ્વીકાર કરીશ.” આથી આશ્શૂરના રાજાએ યહૂદિયાના રાજા હિઝકિયાને ત્રણસો તાલંત ચાંદી અને ત્રીસ તાલંત સોનું આપ્યું.
15 And Hezekiah delivered up all the silver that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasuries of the house of the king.
૧૫માટે હિઝકિયાએ તેને યહોવાહના સભાસ્થાનમાંથી અને રાજમહેલના ભંડારમાંથી જે ચાંદી મળી આવી હતી તે બધી તેને આપી.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Yahweh, and the columns, which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, —and gave them unto the king of Assyria.
૧૬તે સમયે હિઝકિયાએ યહોવાહના સભાસ્થાનના બારણા પરથી અને પોતે મઢેલા સ્તંભો પરથી સોનું ઉખાડીને આશ્શૂરના રાજાને આપ્યું.
17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rab-shakeh, from Lachish unto King Hezekiah, with a heavy force to Jerusalem, —so they came up and drew near to Jerusalem, and took their stand by the upper channel of the pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.
૧૭પણ આશ્શૂરના રાજાએ લાખીશથી તાર્તાન, રાબ-સારીસ તથા રાબશાકેહને મોટા સૈન્ય સાથે હિઝકિયા રાજા પાસે યરુશાલેમમાં મોકલ્યા. તેઓ માર્ગે મુસાફરી કરીને યરુશાલેમ પહોંચ્યા. તેઓ યરુશાલેમ પહોંચીને ધોબીના ખેતરના માર્ગ પર આવેલા ઉપરના તળાવના ગરનાળા પાસે થોભ્યા.
18 Then called they for the king, and there went out unto them Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, —and Shebnah, the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the recorder.
૧૮તેઓએ હિઝકિયા રાજાને બોલાવ્યો, ત્યારે હિલ્કિયાનો દીકરો એલિયાકીમ જે ઘરનો ઉપરી હતો તે, નાણાં મંત્રી શેબ્ના તથા આસાફનો દીકરો યોઆહ જે ઇતિહાસકાર હતો, તેઓ તેઓને મળવા બહાર આવ્યા.
19 And Rab-shakeh said unto them—Pray you, say unto Hezekiah, —Thus, saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What trust is this wherewith thou dost trust?
૧૯રાબશાકેહ તેઓને કહ્યું કે, હવે તમે હિઝકિયાને જઈને કહો કે, આશ્શૂરનો મહાન રાજા પૂછે છે કે, “તારો આત્મવિશ્વાસ શેનાથી છે?
20 Thou hast said—they are only words of the lips!—Counsel and might [have I] for the war. Now, in whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?
૨૦તું કહે છે, યુદ્ધને માટે સહયોગી મિત્રો અને પરાક્રમ અમારી પાસે છે તે તો માત્ર નકામી વાતો છે. કોના પર તું ભરોસો રાખે છે? કોણે તને મારી વિરુદ્ધ બંડ કરવાની હિંમત આપી છે?
21 Now, lo! thou dost trust thyself on the support of this bruised cane, on Egypt, whereon, if a man lean, it will enter his hand and lay it open, —so, is Pharaoh king of Egypt, to all who trust upon him.
૨૧જો, તું આ બરુરુપી લાકડી જેવા મિસર પર ભરોસો રાખીને ચાલે છે, પણ જે કોઈ તેનો આધાર લે છે તેના હાથમાં પેસીને તે તેને વીંધી નાખશે. મિસરનો રાજા ફારુન તેના પર ભરોસો રાખનારની સાથે આવી જ રીતે વર્તે છે.
22 But, if ye should say unto me, In Yahweh our God, do we trust, Then is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath removed, and said unto Judah, and unto Jerusalem—Before this altar, shall ye bow down, in Jerusalem?
૨૨પણ જો તમે એવું કહો કે, ‘અમે અમારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ પર ભરોસો રાખીએ છીએ,’ તે એ જ યહોવાહ નથી કે જેમના ઉચ્ચસ્થાનો અને વેદીઓ હિઝકિયા રાજાએ કાઢી નાખ્યાં છે અને યહૂદિયા અને યરુશાલેમને કહ્યું છે કે, ‘તમારે યરુશાલેમમાં આ વેદીની આગળ જ સેવા કરવી?’
23 Now, therefore, pledge thyself, I pray thee, with my lord, the king of Assyria, —that I supply thee with two thousand horses, if thou, on thy part, be able to set riders upon them.
૨૩તો હવે, કૃપા કરી મારા માલિક આશ્શૂરના રાજા સાથે તું સારી શરત કર. એટલે કે જો તું તેમના માટે સવારી કરનારા પૂરા પાડે તો હું તને બે હજાર ઘોડા આપીશ.
24 How then wilt thou turn back the face of one pasha of the least of my lord’s servants? Or hast thou, on thy part, trusted to Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
૨૪જો તારાથી ન બની શકે તો તું રથો અને ઘોડેસવારોના માટે મિસર પર ભરોસો રાખીને મારા માલિકના એક પણ સરદારને કેવી રીતે પાછો હઠાવી શકે?
25 Now, is it, without Yahweh, that I have come up against this place, to destroy it? Yahweh himself, said unto me, Go thou up against this land, and destroy it.
૨૫શું હું યહોવાહ વિના આ જગ્યા સામે યુદ્ધ કરીને તેનો નાશ કરવા ચઢી આવ્યો છું? યહોવાહે મને કહ્યું છે કે, “તું આ દેશ પર ચઢાઈ કરીને તેનો નાશ કર.’”
26 Then said Eliakim son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh: Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants in the, Syrian, language, for, we, can, understand, it, —and do not speak with us in, the Jews’, language, in the ears of the people who are upon the wall.
૨૬હિલ્કિયાના દીકરા એલિયાકીમ, શેબ્ના અને યોઆહે રાબશાકેહને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને તારા સેવકોની સાથે અરામી ભાષામાં બોલ, કે અમે તે સમજી શકીએ. અમારી સાથે હિબ્રૂ ભાષામાં ના બોલીશ. જેઓ દિવાલ પર છે તેઓના સાંભળતાં અમારી સાથે યહૂદિયાની ભાષામાં બોલીશ નહિ.”
27 But Rab-shakeh said unto them—Is it, concerning thy lord, and concerning thee, that my lord hath sent me to speak these things? Is it not concerning the men who are tarrying upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own water with you?
૨૭પણ રાબશાકેહે તેઓને કહ્યું, “શું મારા માલિકે આ વાતો તારા માલિકને અને તને કહેવા માટે મોકલ્યા છે? જેઓ આ દીવાલ પર બેઠેલા છે, જેઓ તમારી સાથે પોતાની વિષ્ટા ખાવાને તથા મૂત્ર પીવા નિર્માણ થયેલા છે તેઓને કહેવાને મને મોકલ્યો નથી?”
28 So then Rab-shakeh took his stand, and cried out with a loud voice, in, the Jews’, language, —and spake, and said, Hear ye the message of the great king, the king of Assyria: —
૨૮પછી રાબશાકેહે ઊભા થઈને મોટા અવાજે પોકારીને યહૂદિયાની ભાષામાં કહ્યું, “આશ્શૂરના રાજાધિરાજનું વચન સાંભળો.
29 Thus, saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not he able to deliver you out of his hand;
૨૯રાજા કહે છે, “હિઝકિયાથી છેતરાશો નહિ, તે તમને મારા હાથમાંથી બચાવી શકશે નહિ.
30 Neither let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahweh, saying, Yahweh, will, certainly deliver, us, —this city, therefore, shall not be given over into the hand of the king of Assyria.
૩૦“યહોવાહ નિશ્ચે આપણને બચાવશે, આ નગર આશ્શૂરના રાજાના હાથમાં આપવામાં નહિ આવે એવું કહીને હિઝકિયા તમારી પાસે યહોવાહ પર ભરોસો રખાવે નહિ.’”
31 Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, —for, thus, saith the king of Assyria, Deal with me thankfully, and come out unto me, then shall ye eat—every one of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and drink every one the waters of his own cistern;
૩૧આશ્શૂરનો રાજા એમ કહે છે કે, હિઝકિયાનું સાંભળશો નહિ, ‘મારી સાથે સુલેહ કરીને મારી પાસે આવો. ત્યારે તમે દરેક પોતાની દ્રાક્ષવાડીમાંથી અને પોતાના અંજીરના વૃક્ષ પરથી ફળ ખાશો, તમારા પોતાના કૂવાનું પાણી પીશો, હું આવીને તમને ત્યાં લઈ જાઉ નહિ
32 Until I come and take you, into a land like your own land—A land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and honey, so shall ye live, and not die, —But do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for he would persuade you, saying, Yahweh, will deliver us!
૩૨ત્યાં સુધી તમારો જે દેશ તમારા પોતાના દેશ જેવો અનાજ અને દ્રાક્ષારસનો દેશ, રોટલી અને દ્રાક્ષવાડીઓનો દેશ, જૈતૂન અને મધનો દેશ છે ત્યાં તમે જીવતા રહેશો અને મરશો નહિ.’ જયારે હિઝકિયા તમને સમજાવે કે, ‘યહોવાહ આપણને બચાવશે’ તો તેનું સાંભળશો નહિ.
33 Have, the gods of the nations, at all delivered, any one of them, his country, out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
૩૩શું કોઈ પણ પ્રજાના દેવે કદી પોતાના દેશને આશ્શૂર રાજાના હાથમાંથી બચાવ્યો છે?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivvah? Yea, did they deliver Samaria out of my hand?
૩૪હમાથ અને આર્પાદના દેવો કયાં છે? સફાર્વાઈમ, હેના અને ઇવ્વાના દેવો ક્યાં છે? શું તેઓએ સમરુનને મારા હાથમાંથી છોડાવ્યું છે?
35 Who are they, among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country, out of my hand, —that, Yahweh, should deliver, Jerusalem, out of my hand?
૩૫આ બધા દેશોના દેવોમાંથી એવા દેવ કોણ છે તેઓએ પોતાના દેશને મારા હાથમાંથી છોડાવ્યો હોય? તો કેવી રીતે યહોવાહ યરુશાલેમને મારા હાથમાંથી છોડાવશે?”
36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word, —for, the command of the king, it was, saying—Ye must not answer him.
૩૬રાજાએ આજ્ઞા આપી હતી કે, “તેને ઉત્તર આપવો નહિ” માટે બધા લોકો શાંત રહ્યા, કોઈ એક શબ્દ પણ બોલ્યું નહિ.
37 Then came in Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder, unto Hezekiah, with rent clothes, —and they told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
૩૭પછી હિલ્કિયાનો દીકરો એલિયાકીમ જે ઘરનો કારભારી હતો તે, નાણાંમંત્રી શેબ્ના અને આસાફનો દીકરો યોઆહ ઇતિહાસકાર પોતાનાં વસ્ત્ર ફાડીને હિઝકિયાની પાસે આવ્યા અને તેઓએ તેને રાબશાકેહનાં વચનો કહી સંભળાવ્યાં.
