1 Samuel 3

1 Now, the boy Samuel, was ministering unto Yahweh, before Eli, —and, the word of Yahweh, had become rare in those days, there was no well-known vision.

Guten Samuel gjorde tenesta for Herren hjå Eli. Herrens ord var dyrt i dei dagarne, og profetsynerne var sjeldfengde.

2 But it came to pass, at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, his eyes, having begun to be dim, he could not see,

Då bar det so til med Eli låg i det vanlege kvileromet sitt - han tok til å dimmast på syni, so han ikkje kunde skilja -

3 though, the lamp of God, was not yet to be put out, and, Samuel, was lying down in the temple of Yahweh, where was the ark of God,

og dei endå ikkje hadde sløkt Guds lampa, og Samuel sov i Herrens heilagdom, der Guds kista stod:

4 that Yahweh called unto Samuel, and he said—Behold me!

då ropa Herren på Samuel, og han svara: «Ja, her er eg.»

5 So he ran unto Eli and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, return—Its down. So he went, and lie down.

Han sprang til Eli og sagde: «Her er eg, du ropa på meg.» Han svara: «Nei, eg ropa ikkje; gakk og legg deg att!» Han gjekk og lagde seg.

6 And again Yahweh called once there—Samuel! Then rose Samuel, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. And he said—I called not, my son, return—lie down.

Herren ropa ein gong til: «Samuel!» Samuel reis upp og gjekk til Eli og sagde: «Ja, her er eg, du ropa på meg!» Han svara: «Nei, eg ropa ikkje, guten min! gakk og legg deg att!»

7 Now, Samuel, as yet knew not Yahweh, —nor, as yet, had been revealed unto him, the word of Yahweh.

Samuel hadde ikkje endå lært å kjenna Herren; Herrens ord hadde ikkje openberra seg for honom endå.

8 And again Yahweh called—Samuel! a third time. Then he arose, and went unto Eli, and said—Behold me! for thou calledst me. Then did Eli perceive, that, Yahweh, was calling the boy.

Tridje venda heldt Herren fram og ropa på Samuel. Han reis upp og gjekk til Eli og sagde: «Ja, her er eg, du ropa på meg.» Då skyna Eli det var Herren som ropa på guten.

9 So Eli said to Samuel—Go, lie down, and it shall be, if he call unto thee, that thou shalt say—Speak, Yahweh, for thy servant is listening. And Samuel went, and lay down in his place.

Og Eli sagde til Samuel: «Gakk du og legg deg! Hender det so at einkvan ropar på deg, skal du svara: «Tala, Herre! tenaren din høyrer!»» Samuel gjekk og lagde seg i romet sitt.

10 Then came Yahweh, and stood, and called as time after time—Samuel! Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant is listening.

Då so Herren gjekk innåt og ropa som gongerne fyrr: «Samuel, Samuel!» då svara Samuel: «Tala, Herre! tenaren din høyrer.»

11 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Lo! I am doing a thing, in Israel, —at which both ears of everyone that heareth it shall tingle.

Då sagde Herren til Samuel: «Eg kjem til å gjera verk i Israel som kjem til å ringja for båe øyro på deim som høyrer det.

12 In that day, will I confirm against Eli, all that I have spoken against his house, —beginning and finishing.

På den dagen skal eg lata koma yver Eli alt det eg hev tala um ætti hans, frå fyrst til sist.

13 Therefore do I tell him, that I am about to judge his house unto times age-abiding, for the iniquity which he knoweth, in that his sons are cursing God, and he hath not rebuked them.

Eg hev kunngjort for honom at eg vil døma ætti hans til æveleg tid, for den misgjerning som han visste um, at sønerne hans drog forbanning yver seg, og likevel aga han deim ikkje.

14 And therefore have I sworn, respecting the house of Eli, —that the iniquity of the house of Eli shall receive no propitiatory-covering, by sacrifice or by present, unto times age-abiding.

Difor hev eg svore Eli-ætti: «Aldri i æva skal syndi i Eli-ætti kunna sonast antan med slagtoffer eller noko anna offer.»»

15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and rose early in the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Yahweh, —but, Samuel, feared to tell the appearing, unto Eli.

Samuel vart liggjande til morgons, då han skulde opna dørerne til Herrens hus. Samuel torde ikkje fortelja Eli um syni.

16 So Eli called Samuel, and said—Samuel! my son. And he said—Behold me!

Men Eli ropa på Samuel, og sagde: «Samuel, guten min!» Han svara: «Her er eg.»

17 And he said—What is the word, which he spake unto thee? I pray thee, do not hide it from me. So, let God do to thee, and, so, let him add, if thou hide from me a word, out of anything which he hath spoken unto thee.

Han sagde: «Kva var det Gud tala til deg? Kjære, dyl det ikkje for meg! Gud late deg bøta no og sidan, dersom du løynar noko for meg av det han tala til deg!»

18 So Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, Yahweh, he is; what is good in his own eyes, let him do.

So fortalde Samuel alt saman, og løynde ingen ting for honom. Eli svara: Han er Herren. Han gjere som tekkjest honom!

19 And Samuel grew, —and, Yahweh, proved to he with him, and let none of all his words fall to the ground.

Samuel voks til, og Herren, var med honom, og let ikkje eitt av alle sine ord falla til jordi.

20 So all Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, came to know, —that Samuel had become confirmed as a prophet unto Yahweh.

Heile Israel frå Dan til Be’erseba skyna at Samuel var utvald til profet for Herren.

21 Thus did Yahweh again appear in Shiloh, —for Yahweh had revealed himself unto Samuel in Shiloh, in the word of Yahweh.

Og Herren heldt fram med å syna seg i Silo. For Herren openberra seg for Samuel i Silo gjenom Herrens ord.
