1 Samuel 12

1 And Samuel said unto all Israel, Lo! I have hearkened unto your voice, in all that ye said to me, —and have set over you a king.

Então disse Samuel a todo o Israel: Eis que ouvi a vossa voz em tudo quanto me dissestes, e puz sobre vós um rei.

2 Now, therefore, lo! the king going to and fro before you, But, I, am old and grey-headed, and, my sons, lo! they are with you, —But, I, have gone to and fro before you from my youth until this day.

Agora, pois, eis que o rei vae diante de vós, e já envelheci e encaneci, e eis que meus filhos estão comvosco, e eu tenho andado diante de vós desde a minha mocidade até ao dia de hoje

3 Behold me! testify against me, before Yahweh, and before his Anointed—Whose, ox, have I taken? or whose, ass, have I taken? or whom have I oppressed? Whom have I crushed? or at whose, hands, have I taken a bribe, to cover up mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it unto you.

Eis-me aqui, testificae contra mim perante o Senhor, e perante o seu ungido, a quem o boi tomei, a quem o jumento tomei, e a quem defraudei, a quem tenho opprimido, e de cuja mão tenho tomado presente e com elle encobri os meus olhos, e vol-o restituirei.

4 And they said, Thou hast not oppressed us, neither hast thou crushed us, —neither hast thou taken, at the hand of any man, any thing.

Então disseram: Em nada nos defraudaste, nem nos opprimiste, nem tomaste coisa alguma da mão de ninguem.

5 And he said unto them—Witness, is Yahweh against you, and, witness, is his Anointed, this day, that ye have not found in my hand, any thing! And they said: Witness!

E elle lhes disse: O Senhor seja testemunha contra vós, e o seu ungido seja hoje testemunha, que nada tendes achado na minha mão. E disse o povo: Seja testemunha.

6 And Samuel said unto the people: Witness, is Yahweh, who wrought with Moses and with Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt.

Então disse Samuel ao povo: O Senhor é o que fez a Moysés e a Aarão, e tirou a vossos paes da terra do Egypto.

7 Now, therefore, take your stand and let me plead with you, before Yahweh, —and tell you all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he wrought with you, and with your fathers:

Agora pois ponde-vos aqui em pé, e contenderei comvosco perante o Senhor, sobre todas as justiças do Senhor, que fez a vós e a vossos paes.

8 How that, when Jacob had come into Egypt, —and your fathers had made outcry unto Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and he caused them to dwell in this place;

Havendo entrado Jacob no Egypto, vossos paes clamaram ao Senhor, e o Senhor enviou a Moysés e a Aarão, que tiraram a vossos paes do Egypto, e os fizeram habitar n'este logar.

9 And, when they forgat Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, prince of the host of Jabin, king of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them;

Porém esqueceram-se do Senhor seu Deus: então os vendeu á mão de Sisera, cabeça do exercito de Hazor, e em mão dos philisteos, e em mão do rei dos moabitas, que pelejaram contra elles.

10 But, when they made outcry unto Yahweh and said—We have sinned, in that we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, —now, therefore, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve thee,

E clamaram ao Senhor, e disseram: Peccámos, pois deixámos ao Senhor, e servimos aos baalins e astaroths: agora pois livra-nos da mão de nossos inimigos, e te serviremos.

11 then Yahweh sent Jerubbaal and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, —and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies, on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.

E o Senhor enviou a Jerubbaal, e a Bedan, e a Jefte, e a Samuel; e livrou-vos da mão de vossos inimigos em redor, e habitastes seguros.

12 But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!

E vendo vós que Nahas, rei dos filhos de Ammon, vinha contra vós, me dissestes: Não, mas reinará sobre nós um rei: sendo porém o Senhor vosso Deus, o vosso Rei.

13 Now, therefore, lo! the king whom ye have chosen, for whom ye have asked, —lo! therefore, Yahweh hath set over you a king.

Agora pois vedes ahi o rei que elegestes e que pedistes; e eis que o Senhor tem posto sobre vós um rei.

14 If ye will revere Yahweh, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then shall, both ye and your king that reigneth over you, continue to follow after Yahweh your God.

Se temerdes ao Senhor, e o servirdes, e derdes ouvidos á sua voz, e não fordes rebeldes ao dito do Senhor, assim vós, como o rei que reina sobre vós, seguireis o Senhor vosso Deus.

15 But, if ye hearken not unto the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then will the hand of Yahweh continue to be against you, and against your fathers.

Mas se não derdes ouvidos á voz do Senhor, mas antes fordes rebeldes ao dito do Senhor, a mão do Senhor será contra vós, como o era contra vossos paes

16 Even now, stand still and see this great thing, —which Yahweh is about to do before your eyes:

Ponde-vos tambem agora aqui, e vêde esta grande coisa que o Senhor vae fazer diante dos vossos olhos.

17 Is it not wheat harvest, to-day? I will cry unto Yahweh, that he may give forth thunderings and rain, —know ye then and see, that, your wrong, is great which ye have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking for yourselves, a king.

Não é hoje a sega dos trigos? clamarei pois ao Senhor, e dará trovões e chuva; e sabereis e vereis que é grande a vossa maldade que tendes feito perante o Senhor, pedindo para vós um rei.

18 So Samuel cried unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gave forth thunderings and rain, on that day, —and all the people greatly feared Yahweh, and Samuel.

Então invocou Samuel ao Senhor, e o Senhor deu trovões e chuva n'aquelle dia; pelo que todo o povo temeu em grande maneira ao Senhor e a Samuel.

19 And all the people said unto Samuel—Pray for thy servants, unto Yahweh thy God, and let it not be that we die, —For we have added, to all our sins, a wrong, in asking for ourselves a king.

E todo o povo disse a Samuel: Roga pelos teus servos ao Senhor teu Deus, para que não venhamos a morrer: porque a todos os nossos peccados temos accrescentado este mal, de pedirmos para nós um rei.

20 Then said Samuel unto the people—Do not fear, ye, have done all this wrong, —nevertheless, do not turn aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh, with all your heart;

Então disse Samuel ao povo: Não temaes; vós tendes commettido todo este mal; porém não vos desvieis de detraz do Senhor, mas servi ao Senhor com todo o vosso coração.

21 and turn not aside after vanities, that can neither profit nor deliver, because, vanities, they are.

E não vos desvieis; pois seguirieis as vaidades, que nada aproveitam, e tão pouco vos livrarão, porque vaidades são.

22 For Yahweh will not give up his people, because of his great name, for Yahweh was minded to make you his people.

Pois o Senhor não desamparará o seu povo, por causa do seu grande nome: porque aprouve ao Senhor fazer-vos o seu povo.

23 As for me also, far be it from me, that I should sin against Yahweh, by ceasing to pray for you, —but I will direct you, in the good and right way.

E quanto a mim, longe de mim que eu peque contra o Senhor, deixando de orar por vós: antes vos ensinarei o caminho bom e direito.

24 Only, revere Yahweh, and serve him in truth, with all your heart, —for see, what great things he hath done with you.

Tão sómente temei ao Senhor, e servi-o fielmente com todo o vosso coração: porque vede quão grandiosas coisas vos fez.

25 But, if ye, will do wrong, both ye and your king shall be swept away.

Porém, se perseverardes em fazer mal, perecereis, assim vós como o vosso rei.
