1 Kings 12
1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, —for, to Shechem, had all Israel come to make him king.
১রহবিয়াম শিখিমে গেলেন, কারণ ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা সকলে তাঁকে রাজা করার জন্য সেখানে গিয়েছিল।
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of it—he being yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the face of Solomon the king, that Jeroboam returned from Egypt;
২তখন নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়াম মিশর দেশে ছিলেন, কারণ তিনি রাজা শলোমনের কাছ থেকে পালিয়ে সেখানে গিয়েছিলেন। মিসরে থাকার দিন তিনি যখন রহবিয়ামের রাজা হওয়ার খবর শুনলেন তিনি সেখান থেকে ফিরে এলেন।
3 yes they sent, and called him, and Jeroboam and all the convocation of Israel came, —and spake unto Rehoboam, saying:
৩লোকেরা যারবিয়ামকে ডেকে পাঠালেন এবং যারবিয়াম সব ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে রহবিয়ামের কাছে গিয়ে বললেন,
4 Thy father, made our yoke, grievous, —now, therefore do, thou, lighten the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, that we may serve thee.
৪“আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর একটা ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু এখন আপনি আমাদের উপর চাপানো সেই কঠিন পরিশ্রম কমিয়ে ভারী যোঁয়ালটা হালকা করে দিন; তাহলে আমরা আপনার সেবা করব।”
5 And he said unto them—Depart ye for yet three days, and then come again unto me. And the people departed.
৫উত্তরে রহবিয়াম বললেন, “তোমরা এখন চলে যাও, তিন দিন পর আমার কাছে আবার এসো।” তাতে লোকেরা চলে গেল।
6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who used to stand before Solomon his father, while he yet lived, saying, —How do, ye, advise, that I answer this people?
৬যে সব বৃদ্ধ নেতারা তাঁর বাবা শলোমনের জীবনকালে তাঁর সেবা করতেন রহবিয়াম তাঁদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করবার জন্য বললেন, “এই লোকদের উত্তর দেবার জন্য আপনারা আমাকে কি পরামর্শ দেন?”
7 And they spake unto him, saying—If, to-day, thou wilt be servant unto this people, and wilt serve them, —and answer them kindly, and speak unto them good words, then will they be, thy, servants, always.
৭উত্তরে তাঁরা তাঁকে বললেন, “আজকে যদি আপনি এই সব লোকদের সেবাকারী হয়ে তাদের সেবা করেন এবং তাদের অনুরোধ রক্ষা করেন তবে তারা সব দিন আপনার দাস হয়ে থাকবে।”
8 But he declined the counsel of the elders which they gave him, and consulted with the young men, who had grown up with him, who were standing before himself;
৮কিন্তু রহবিয়াম বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে সেই সব যুবকদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন যারা তাঁর সঙ্গে বড় হয়েছিল এবং তাঁর সেবা করত।
9 and said unto them—What counsel do, ye, give as to how we shall answer this people who have spoken unto me, saying—Make a lightening of the yoke which thy father put upon us?
৯তিনি তাদের বললেন, “লোকেরা বলছে, ‘আপনার বাবা যে ভারী যোঁয়াল আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন তা হালকা করুন।’ এই ব্যাপারে তোমাদের পরামর্শ কি? আমরা তাদের কি উত্তর দেব?”
10 Then spake unto him the young men who had grown up with him, saying, Thus, shalt thou say to this people that have spoken unto thee, saying—Thy father, made our yoke heavy, thou, therefore lighten it upon us, Thus, shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger, is thicker than my father’s loins;
১০উত্তরে সেই যুবকেরা বলল, “যে সব লোকেরা আপনার বাবার চাপিয়ে দেওয়া ভারী যোঁয়াল হালকা করে দেবার কথা বলেছে তাদের আপনি বলুন যে, আপনার বাবার কোমরের চেয়েও আপনার কোড়ে আঙ্গুলটা মোটা।
11 Now, therefore, whereas, my father, laid upon you a heavy yoke, I, will add to your yoke, —My father, did chastise you with whips, but, I, will chastise you with scorpions.
১১এখন আমার বাবা তোমাদের উপর যে ভারী যোঁয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন তা আমি আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন চাবুক দিয়ে কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের মারব কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে।”
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came in unto Rehoboam, on the third day, —as the king had bidden, saying—Come again unto me, on the third day.
১২পরে তৃতীয় দিনের আমার কাছে ফিরে এস, রাজার বলা এই কথা অনুসারে যারবিয়াম এবং সব লোক রহবিয়ামের কাছে তৃতীয় দিনের এল।
13 And the king answered the people, harshly, —and declined the counsel of the elders wherewith they had counselled him;
১৩রাজা বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে লোকদের খুব কড়া উত্তর দিলেন।
14 and spake unto them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father, made your yoke heavy, but, I, will add unto your yoke, —My father, chastised you, with whips, but, I, will chastise you, with scorpions.
১৪তিনি সেই যুবকদের পরামর্শ মত বললেন, “আমার বাবা তোমাদের যোঁয়াল ভারী করেছিলেন, আমি তা আরও ভারী করব। আমার বাবা চাবুক দিয়ে তোমাদের মেরেছিলেন, আমি তোমাদের কাঁকড়া বিছা দিয়ে শাস্তি দেব।”
15 Thus the king hearkened not unto the people, —for there had come about a turn from Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, son of Nebat.
১৫এই ভাবে রাজা লোকদের কথায় কান দিলেন না। কারণ শীলোনীয় অহিয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে সদাপ্রভু নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামকে যে কথা বলেছিলেন তা পূর্ণ করবার জন্য সদাপ্রভু থেকেই এই ঘটনাটা ঘটল।
16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying—What portion have, we, in, David. Or inheritance in the son of Jesse? To your homes O Israel! Now, see to thine own house, O David! And Israel departed to their homes.
১৬ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যখন বুঝল যে, রাজা তাদের কথা শুনবেন না তখন তারা রাজাকে বলল, “দায়ূদের উপর আমাদের কোনো দাবি নেই। যিশয়ের ছেলের উপর আমাদের কোনো অধিকার নেই। হে ইস্রায়েল, তোমরা নিজের তাঁবুতে ফিরে যাও। হে দায়ূদ, এখন তোমার নিজের গোষ্ঠী তুমি নিজেই দেখ।” কাজেই ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা যে যার বাড়িতে ফিরে গেল।
17 But, as for the sons of Israel who were dwelling in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
১৭তবে যিহূদা গোষ্ঠীর গ্রাম ও শহরগুলোতে যে সব ইস্রায়েলীয় বাস করত রহবিয়াম তাদের উপরে রাজত্ব করতে থাকলেন।
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoniram who was over the tribute, but all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died, —King Rehoboam, therefore, hastily mounted his chariot, to flee unto Jerusalem.
১৮যাদের কাজ করতে বাধ্য করা হত তাদের ভার যার উপরে ছিল সেই অদোরামকে রাজা রহবিয়াম ইস্রায়েলীয়দের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন, কিন্তু তারা তাকে পাথর ছুঁড়ে মেরে ফেলল। তখন রাজা রহবিয়াম তাড়াতাড়ি তাঁর রথে উঠে যিরূশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David, —unto this day.
১৯এই ভাবে ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা দায়ূদের বংশের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করল; অবস্থাটা আজও তাই আছে।
20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him into the assembly, and made him king over all Israel, —there were none that followed the house of David, saving the tribe of Judah only.
২০যারবিয়ামের ফিরে আসার খবর শুনে ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে তাদের সভায় ডেকে আনল এবং সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলীয়দের উপর তারা তাঁকেই রাজা করল। কেবল যিহূদা বংশের লোকেরা ছাড়া আর কোনো বংশ দায়ূদের বংশের প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত থাকল না।
21 And, when Rehoboam entered Jerusalem, he called together all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin—a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, able to make war, —to fight against the house of Israel, to bring back the kingdom to Rehoboam, son of Solomon.
২১যিরূশালেমে পৌঁছে রহবিয়াম যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীন গোষ্ঠীর সমস্ত লোককে যুদ্ধের জন্য জড়ো করলেন। তাতে এক লক্ষ আশি হাজার সৈন্য হল। এটা করা হল যাতে ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করে রাজ্যটা আবার শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামের হাতে নিয়ে আসা যায়।
22 Then came the word of God unto Shemaiah, the man of God, saying:
২২কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের লোক শময়িয়ের কাছে ঈশ্বরের এই বাক্য প্রকাশিত হল,
23 Speak unto Rehoboam, son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah, and Benjamin, —and the remnant of the people, saying:
২৩তুমি যিহূদার রাজা শলোমনের ছেলে রহবিয়ামকে, যিহূদা ও বিন্যামীনের সমস্ত বংশকে এবং বাকি সব লোকদের বল যে,
24 Thus, saith Yahweh—Ye shall not go up, neither shall ye fight with your brethren the sons of Israel, —return ye every man to his own house, for, from me, hath this thing been brought about. So they hearkened unto the word of Yahweh, and turned back to depart, according to the word of Yahweh.
২৪“সদাপ্রভু বলেন, তোমরা যেও না, তোমাদের ভাইদের সাথে, ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ কর না; প্রত্যেকজন নিজের নিজের ঘরে ফিরে যাও, কারণ এই ঘটনা আমার মাধ্যমে হয়েছে।” অতএব তারা সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য মেনে তাঁর আদেশ অনুসারে ফিরে গেল।
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem, in the hill country of Ephraim, and dwelt therein, —and went forth from thence, and built Penuel.
২৫পরে যারবিয়াম ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী এলাকার শিখিম গড়ে নিয়ে সেখানে বাস করতে লাগলেন। তিনি সেখান থেকে গিয়ে পনূয়েলও দুর্গের মত করে গড়ে নিলেন।
26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, —Now, shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
২৬যারবিয়াম ভাবলেন, “এবার হয়তো রাজ্যটা আবার দায়ূদের বংশের হাতে ফিরে যাবে।
27 If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh, in Jerusalem, then will the heart of this people return unto their lord, unto Rehoboam, king of Judah, —and they will slay me, and return unto Rehoboam, king of Judah.
২৭লোকেরা যদি যিরূশালেমে সদাপ্রভুর উপাসনা ঘরে বলিদান করার জন্য যায় তবে আবার তারা তাদের প্রভু যিহূদার রাজা রহবিয়ামের অধীনতা মেনে নেবে। তারা আমাকে মেরে ফেলে রাজা রহবিয়ামের কাছে ফিরে যাবে।”
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, —and said unto them—It is, too much for you, to go up to Jerusalem, Lo! thy gods, O Israel, that brought thee up out of the land of Egypt;
২৮রাজা যারবিয়াম তখন পরামর্শ করে দুটো সোনার বাছুর তৈরী করালেন। তারপর তিনি লোকদের বললেন, “যিরূশালেমে যাওয়া তোমাদের জন্য খুব কষ্টের ব্যাপার। হে ইস্রায়েল, এঁরাই তোমাদের দেবতা, এঁরাই মিশর থেকে তোমাদের বের করে এনেছেন।”
29 And he set the one in Bethel, —and, the other, put he in Dan.
২৯বাছুর দুটার একটাকে তিনি রাখলেন বৈথেলে এবং অন্যটাকে রাখলেন দানে,
30 And this thing became a sin, —and the people went before the one, as far as Dan.
৩০তাই লোকেরা পূজা করবার জন্য দান পর্যন্ত যেতে লাগল। এই ব্যাপারটা তাদের পাপের কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়াল।
31 And he made a house of high-places, —and made priests from the whole compass of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
৩১যারবিয়াম উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে মন্দির তৈরী করলেন এবং এমন সব লোকদের মধ্য থেকে যাজক নিযুক্ত করলেন যারা লেবির বংশের লোক ছিল না।
32 And Jeroboam made a festival in the eight month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the festival which [was held] in Judah, and offered up on the altar, likewise, did he in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made, —and he kept in attendance in Bethel, the priests of the high-places which he had made.
৩২যিহূদা এলাকার মধ্যে যে পর্ব হত সেই পর্বের মত অষ্টম মাসের পনের দিনের দিন তিনি বৈথেলেও একটা পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং নিজের তৈরী বাছুরের উদ্দেশ্যে বেদির উপর পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। তিনি বৈথেলে পূজার উঁচু স্থানগুলোতে তাঁর তৈরী মন্দিরে যাজকও নিযুক্ত করলেন।
33 And he offered up on the altar which he had made in Bethel, on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month which he had devised out of his own heart, —thus made he a festival for the sons of Israel, and offered up on the altar, to make a perfume.
৩৩অষ্টম মাসের পনেরো দিনের র দিন বৈথেলে তাঁর তৈরী বেদীতে তিনি পশু উৎসর্গ করলেন। দিন টা তাঁর নিজেরই বেছে নেওয়া। এই ভাবে তিনি ইস্রায়েলীয়দের জন্য পর্বের ব্যবস্থা করলেন এবং ধূপ জ্বালাবার জন্য বেদীতে উঠলেন।
