< 1 Chronicles 8 >

1 And, Benjamin, begat Bela his firstborn, —Ashbel, the second, and Aharah, the third, —
Benjamin had five sons: Bela, Ashbel, Aharah,
2 Nohah, the fourth, and Rapha, the fifth.
Nohah, and Rapha.
3 And Bela had sons—Addar, and Gera, and Abihud, —
The sons of Bela were Addar, Gera, Abihud,
4 and Abishua, and Naaman, and Ahoah, —
Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,
5 and Gera, and Shephuphan, and Huram.
Gera, Shephuphan, and Huram.
6 And, these, are the sons of Ehud, —these, are the ancestral chiefs to the inhabitants of Geba, but they were carried away captive, unto Manahath;
[One of Gera’s sons was Ehud.] The descendants of Ehud were leaders of their clans who lived in Geba [city], but they were forced to move to Manahath [city].
7 and, as for Naaman and Ahijah and Gera, the same, carried them captive, —and he begat Uzza and Ahihud.
Ehud’s sons/descendants were Naaman, Ahijah, and Gera. Gera was the one who led them when they moved to Manahath. Gera was the father of Uzza and Ahihud.
8 And, Shaharaim, begat children in the field of Moab, after he had sent away Hushim and Baara his wives.
[Another descendant of Benjamin was Shaharaim]. He and his wife Hushim had two sons, Abitub and Elpaal. In [the] Moab [region], Shaharaim divorced Hushim and his other wife Baara. [Then he married a woman whose name was] Hodesh, and they had [seven sons]: Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcam, Jeuz, Sakia, and Mirmah. They were all leaders of their clans.
9 Then begat he, of Hodesh his wife, —Jobab, and Zibia, and Mesha, and Malcam;
10 and Jeuz, and Sachia, and Mirmah, —these, were his sons, ancestral chiefs.
11 And, of Hushim, he begat Abitub, and Elpaal.
12 And, the sons of Elpaal, Eber, and Misham, and Shemed, —he, built Ono, and Lod, and the villages thereof.
Elpaal’s sons were Eber, Misham, Shemed, Beriah, and Shema. Shemed built [the towns of] Ono and Lod, and the nearby villages. Beriah and Shema were leaders of their clans, who lived in Aijalon [city]. They forced the people who lived in Gath [city] to leave their city.
13 And, as for Beriah and Shema, they, were ancestral chiefs to the inhabitants of Aijalon, —they, put to flight the inhabitants of Gath;
14 and Ahio, Shashak, and Jeremoth, —
Beriah’s sons were Ahio, Shashak, Jeremoth, Zebadiah, Arad, Eder, Michael, Ishpah, and Joha.
15 and Zebadiah, and Arad, and Eder, —
16 and Michael, and Ishpah, and Joha, sons of Beriah, —
17 and Zebadiah, and Meshullam, and Hizki, and Heber, —
[Other] descendants of Elpaal were Zebadiah, Meshullam, Hizki, Heber,
18 and Ishmerai, and Izliah, and Jobab, sons of Elpaal, —
Ishmerai, Izliah, and Jobab.
19 and Jakim, and Zichri, and Zabdi—
[Another descendant of Benjamin was Shimei.] Shimei’s descendants included Jakim, Zicri, Zabdi, Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel, Adaiah, Beraiah, and Shimrath.
20 and Elienai, and Zillethai, and Eliel, —
21 and Adaiah, and Beraiah, and Shimrath, sons of Shimei, —
22 and Ishpan, and Eber, and Eliel, —
Shashak’s sons were Ishpan, Eber, Eliel,
23 and Abdon, and Zichri, and Hanan, —
Abdon, Zicri, Hanan,
24 and Hananiah, and Elam, and Anthothijah, —
Hananiah, Elam, Anthothijah,
25 and Iphdeiah, and Penuel, sons of Shashak, —
Iphdeiah, and Penuel.
26 and Shamsherai, and Shehariah, and Athaliah, —
[Another descendant of Benjamin was] Jeroham, whose sons were Shamsherai, Shehariah, Athaliah, Jaareshiah, Elijah, and Zicri.
27 and Jaareshiah, and Elijah, and Zichri, sons of Jeroham:
28 these, were ancestral chiefs to their generations, chief men, —these, dwelt in Jerusalem;
In the records of these clans it is written that all those men were leaders of their clans, and they lived in Jerusalem.
29 And, in Gibeon, dwelt the father of Gibeon [Jeiel], the name of whose wife, was Maacah, —
[Another descendant of Benjamin was] Jeiel. He lived in Gibeon [town], and he was the leader there. His wife was Maacah.
30 and his firstborn son, Abdon, and Zur and Kish, and Baal and Ner and Nadab, —
His oldest son was Abdon. His other sons were Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
31 and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zecher.
Gedor, Ahio, Zeker,
32 And, Mikloth, begat Shimeah, —moreover also, they, over against their brethren, did dwell in Jerusalem, with their own brethren.
and Mikloth. Mikloth was the father of Shimeah. All these sons of Jeiel also lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.
33 So then, Ner, begat Kish, and, Kish, begat Saul, —and, Saul, begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
Ner was the father of Kish, and Kish was the father of [King] Saul. Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-Baal.
34 And, the son of Jonathan, was Merib-baal, —and, Merib-baal, begat Micah.
Jonathan’s son was Merib-Baal. Merib-Baal was the father of Micah.
35 And, the sons of Micah, were Pithon, and Melech, and Tarea, and Ahaz.
Micah’s sons were Pithon, Melech, Tarea, and Ahaz.
36 And, Ahaz, begat Jehoaddah, and, Jehoaddah, begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri, —and, Zimri, begat Moza;
Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah. Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri. Zimri was the father of Moza.
37 and, Moza, begat Binea, —Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
Moza was the father of Binea. The son of Binea was Raphah. The son of Raphah was Eleasah. The son of Eleasah was Azel.
38 And, Azel, had six sons, and, these, were their names—Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obediah, and Hanan and Asah, —all these, were sons of Azel.
Azel had six sons: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan.
39 And, the sons of Eshek his brother, were Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third.
Azel’s [younger] brother was Eshek. Eshek’s oldest son was Ulam. His other sons were Jeush and Eliphelet.
40 And the sons of Ulam became men that were heroes of valour, archers, with many sons, and sons’ sons, a hundred and fifty. All these, were of the sons of Benjamin.
Ulam’s sons were brave warriors and (good archers/able to shoot arrows well). Altogether they had 150 sons and grandsons. Those were the descendants of Benjamin.
