1 And, Benjamin, begat Bela his firstborn, —Ashbel, the second, and Aharah, the third, —
Benjamin was the father of Bela (firstborn son), Ashbel (second), Aharah (third),
2 Nohah, the fourth, and Rapha, the fifth.
Nohah (fourth), and Rapha (fifth).
3 And Bela had sons—Addar, and Gera, and Abihud, —
The sons of Bela were: Addar, Gera, Abihud,
4 and Abishua, and Naaman, and Ahoah, —
Abishua, Naaman, Ahoah,
5 and Gera, and Shephuphan, and Huram.
Gera, Shephuphan, and Huram.
6 And, these, are the sons of Ehud, —these, are the ancestral chiefs to the inhabitants of Geba, but they were carried away captive, unto Manahath;
These were the sons of Ehud, family heads living in Geba, and were exiled to Manahath:
7 and, as for Naaman and Ahijah and Gera, the same, carried them captive, —and he begat Uzza and Ahihud.
Naaman, Ahijah, and Gera. Gera was the one who exiled them. He was the father of Uzza and Ahihud.
8 And, Shaharaim, begat children in the field of Moab, after he had sent away Hushim and Baara his wives.
Shaharaim had sons in Moab after he divorced his wives Hushim and Baara.
9 Then begat he, of Hodesh his wife, —Jobab, and Zibia, and Mesha, and Malcam;
He married Hodesh and had Jobab, Zibia, Mesha, Malcam,
10 and Jeuz, and Sachia, and Mirmah, —these, were his sons, ancestral chiefs.
Jeuz, Sakia, and Mirmah. These were all his sons, family heads.
11 And, of Hushim, he begat Abitub, and Elpaal.
He also had sons with Hushim: Abitub and Elpaal.
12 And, the sons of Elpaal, Eber, and Misham, and Shemed, —he, built Ono, and Lod, and the villages thereof.
The sons of Elpaal: Eber, Misham, Shemed (he built Ono and Lod with its nearby towns),
13 And, as for Beriah and Shema, they, were ancestral chiefs to the inhabitants of Aijalon, —they, put to flight the inhabitants of Gath;
and Beriah and Shema, who were family heads living in Aijalon and who drove away the people who lived in Gath.
14 and Ahio, Shashak, and Jeremoth, —
Ahio, Shashak, Jeremoth,
15 and Zebadiah, and Arad, and Eder, —
Zebadiah, Arad, Eder,
16 and Michael, and Ishpah, and Joha, sons of Beriah, —
Michael, Ishpah, and Joha were the sons of Beriah.
17 and Zebadiah, and Meshullam, and Hizki, and Heber, —
Zebadiah, Meshullam, Hizki, Heber,
18 and Ishmerai, and Izliah, and Jobab, sons of Elpaal, —
Ishmerai, Izliah, and Jobab were the sons of Elpaal.
19 and Jakim, and Zichri, and Zabdi—
Jakim, Zicri, Zabdi,
20 and Elienai, and Zillethai, and Eliel, —
Elienai, Zillethai, Eliel,
21 and Adaiah, and Beraiah, and Shimrath, sons of Shimei, —
Adaiah, Beraiah, and Shimrath were the sons of Shimei.
22 and Ishpan, and Eber, and Eliel, —
Ishpan, Eber, Eliel,
23 and Abdon, and Zichri, and Hanan, —
Abdon, Zicri, Hanan,
24 and Hananiah, and Elam, and Anthothijah, —
Hananiah, Elam, Anthothijah,
25 and Iphdeiah, and Penuel, sons of Shashak, —
Iphdeiah, and Penuel were the sons of Shashak.
26 and Shamsherai, and Shehariah, and Athaliah, —
Shamsherai, Shehariah, Athaliah,
27 and Jaareshiah, and Elijah, and Zichri, sons of Jeroham:
Jaareshiah, Elijah, and Zicri were the sons of Jeroham.
28 these, were ancestral chiefs to their generations, chief men, —these, dwelt in Jerusalem;
All these were family heads, according to their genealogy. They lived in Jerusalem.
29 And, in Gibeon, dwelt the father of Gibeon [Jeiel], the name of whose wife, was Maacah, —
Jeiel founded Gibeon and lived there. His wife was called Maacah.
30 and his firstborn son, Abdon, and Zur and Kish, and Baal and Ner and Nadab, —
His firstborn son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
31 and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zecher.
Gedor, Ahio, Zeker,
32 And, Mikloth, begat Shimeah, —moreover also, they, over against their brethren, did dwell in Jerusalem, with their own brethren.
and Mikloth. Mikloth was the father of Shimeah. They also lived near their relatives in Jerusalem.
33 So then, Ner, begat Kish, and, Kish, begat Saul, —and, Saul, begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.
Ner was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malki-Shua, Abinadab and Esh-Baal.
34 And, the son of Jonathan, was Merib-baal, —and, Merib-baal, begat Micah.
The son of Jonathan: Merib-Baal, who was the father of Micah.
35 And, the sons of Micah, were Pithon, and Melech, and Tarea, and Ahaz.
The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tarea, and Ahaz.
36 And, Ahaz, begat Jehoaddah, and, Jehoaddah, begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri, —and, Zimri, begat Moza;
Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza.
37 and, Moza, begat Binea, —Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
Moza was the father of Binea. Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.
38 And, Azel, had six sons, and, these, were their names—Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obediah, and Hanan and Asah, —all these, were sons of Azel.
Azel had six sons. These were their names: Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These were all the sons of Azel.
39 And, the sons of Eshek his brother, were Ulam his firstborn, Jeush the second, and Eliphelet the third.
The sons of his brother Eshek: Ulam (firstborn), Jeush (second), and Eliphelet (third).
40 And the sons of Ulam became men that were heroes of valour, archers, with many sons, and sons’ sons, a hundred and fifty. All these, were of the sons of Benjamin.
The sons of Ulam were strong warriors and skilled archers. They had many sons and grandsons—a total of 150. All of them were the sons of Benjamin.
