Psalms 8

1 For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory upon the heavens.

聖歌隊の指揮者によってギテトにあわせてうたわせたダビデの歌 主、われらの主よ、あなたの名は地にあまねく、いかに尊いことでしょう。あなたの栄光は天の上にあり、

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established strength, because of thine adversaries, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

みどりごと、ちのみごとの口によって、ほめたたえられています。あなたは敵と恨みを晴らす者とを静めるため、あだに備えて、とりでを設けられました。

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

わたしは、あなたの指のわざなる天を見、あなたが設けられた月と星とを見て思います。

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

人は何者なので、これをみ心にとめられるのですか、人の子は何者なので、これを顧みられるのですか。

5 For thou hast made him but little lower than God, and crownest him with glory and honour.

ただ少しく人を神よりも低く造って、栄えと誉とをこうむらせ、

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

これにみ手のわざを治めさせ、よろずの物をその足の下におかれました。

7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

すべての羊と牛、また野の獣、

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

空の鳥と海の魚、海路を通うものまでも。

9 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

主、われらの主よ、あなたの名は地にあまねく、いかに尊いことでしょう。
