Proverbs 9
1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
La Sagesse s’est bâti une maison, elle en a sculpté les sept colonnes.
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
Elle a tué des animaux pour son festin, mélangé son vin et dressé sa table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens, she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
Elle a mis en campagne ses servantes; elle lance ses invitations du haut des éminences de la cité:
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that is void of understanding, she saith to him,
"Quiconque a l’esprit faible vienne de ce côté!" A celui qui est dépourvu d’intelligence, elle adresse la parole:
5 Come, eat ye of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
"Venez, mangez de mon pain et buvez du vin que j’ai mélangé.
6 Leave off, ye simple ones, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.
Laissez-là la sottise et vous vivrez; dirigez vos pas dans la voie de la raison!"
7 He that correcteth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that reproveth a wicked man [getteth] himself a blot.
Morigéner le moqueur, c’est s’attirer des avanies, réprimander le méchant, c’est se marquer d’une tare.
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
Ne morigène pas le railleur, car il te haïrait; fais des remontrances au sage, et il t’en aimera davantage.
9 Give [instruction] to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
Donne une leçon au sage, et il deviendra plus sage; instruis l’homme de bien, et il enrichira son savoir.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Le commencement de la sagesse, c’est la crainte du Seigneur, et la connaissance du Très-Saint, c’est là la saine raison.
11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
Certes, c’est grâce à moi que se multiplieront tes jours et que te seront dispensées de longues années de vie.
12 If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself: and if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
Si tu deviens sage, c’est pour ton bien; si tu deviens un persifleur, toi seul en porteras la peine.
13 The foolish woman is clamorous; [she is] simple, and knoweth nothing.
Commère, la folie est bruyante, légère, inconsciente.
14 And she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
Elle s’assied à l’entrée de sa maison, trône sur les hauteurs de la cité,
15 To call to them that pass by, who go right on their ways,
pour appeler les passants, qui vont droit leur chemin:
16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that is void of understanding, she saith to him,
"Quiconque a l’esprit faible vienne de ce côté!" A celui qui est dépourvu d’Intelligence elle adresse la parole:
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread [eaten] in secret is pleasant.
"Suave est l’eau volée, délicieux le pain dérobé!"
