Proverbs 31
1 The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.
Dies sind die Worte des Königs Lemuel, ein Ausspruch, dem ihm seine Mutter einschärfte.
2 What, my son? and what, O son of my womb, and what, O son of my vows?
Was ich dir raten soll, mein Sohn? und was, du Sohn meines Leibes, und was, du Sohn meiner gelübde?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Gieb nicht den Weibern deine Kraft, noch deine liebkosungen denen, die Könige verderben.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes [to say], Where is strong drink?
Nicht gefalle es den Königen, o Lemoel, nicht gefalle es den königen Wein zu trinken, noch Rauschtrank den Fürsten.
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any that is afflicted.
Sie möchten sonst trinken und das festgesetzte Recht vergessen und den Rechtshandel aller elenden Leute entstellen.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto the bitter in soul:
Gebt Rauschtrank dem, der am Untergehen ist, und Wein solchen, deren Seele betrübt ist.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Der mag trinken und seiner Armut vergessen und seines leids nicht mehr gedenken.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb, in the cause of all such as are left desolate.
Thue deinen Mund auf für den Stummen, für die Sache aller dahinschmachtenden Leute.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and minister judgment to the poor and needy.
Thue deinen Mund auf, richte gerecht und schaffe recht dem Elenden und Armen!
10 A virtuous woman who can find? for her price is far above rubies.
Ein wackeres weib, wer mag es finden? Weit über Korallen geht ihr Wert.
11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall have no lack of gain.
Auf sie vertraut ihres Gatten Herz, und an Gewinn fehlt es ihm nicht.
12 She doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Sie tut ihm liebes und kein Leid ihr ganzes Leben lang.
13 She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
Sie tut sich um nach Wolle und Flachs und schafft mit arbeitslustigen Händen.
14 She is like the merchant-ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
Sie gleicht den Schiffen eines Kaufmanns; von ferne bringt sie ihre Nahrung herbei.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and their task to her maidens.
Sie steht auf, wenn's noch Nacht ist, und gibt Speise für ihr Haus und das bestimmte Teil für ihre Mägde.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
Sie sinnt auf einen Acker und kauft ihn; von ihrer Hände Frucht pflanzt sie einen Weinberg.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and maketh strong her arms.
Sie gürtet mit Kraft ihre Lenden und macht ihre Arme rüstig.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable: her lamp goeth not out by night.
Sie merkt, daß ihr Hantieren gedeiht; nicht erlischt des Nachts ihre Leuchte.
19 She layeth her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.
Ihre Hände streckt sie nach dem Rocken aus, und ihre Finger ergreifen die Spindel.
20 She spreadeth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
Ihre Hand reckt sie dem Elenden hin und ihre Arme streckt sie nach dem Dürftigen aus,
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
Sie fürchtet nichts für ihr Haus vom Schnee, denn ihr ganzes Haus ist mit Scharlachwolle gekleidet.
22 She maketh for herself carpets of tapestry; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Decken verfertigt sie sich; Byssus und Purpur ist ihr Gewand.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Angesehen ist ihr Gemahl in den Thoren, wenn er Sitzung hält mit den Vornehmen des Landes.
24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
Ein feines Unterkleid fertigt sie an und verkauft's und einen Gürtel übergiebt sie dem Krämer.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she laugheth at the time to come.
Kraft und Hoheit ist ihr Gewand, und so lacht sie des künftigen Tags.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and the law of kindness is on her tongue.
Ihren Mund thut sie mit Weisheit auf, und liebreiche Unterweisung ist auf ihrer Zunge.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Sie überwacht das Thun und Treiben ihres Hauses und Brot der Faulheit ißt sie nie.
28 Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her, [saying]:
Ihre Söhne treten auf und preisen sie glückselig, ihr Gemahl tritt auf und rühmt sie:
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
“Gar viele Frauen haben sich wacker erzeigt - du aber übertriffst sie alle!”
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: [but] a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Lug ist die Anmut und ein vergänglicher Hauch die Schönheit: ein Weib, das Jahwe fürchtet, das soll man rühmen!
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her works praise her in the gates.
Gebt ihr von der Frucht ihrer Hände, und in den Thoren müssen ihr Werke ihr Lob verkünden.
