Proverbs 21
1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD as the watercourses: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
王の心は、主の手のうちにあって、水の流れのようだ、主はみこころのままにこれを導かれる。 王の心は、主の手のうちにあって、水の流れのようだ、主はみこころのままにこれを導かれる。
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weigheth the hearts.
人の道は自分の目には正しく見える、しかし主は人の心をはかられる。 人の道は自分の目には正しく見える、しかし主は人の心をはかられる。
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
正義と公平を行うことは、犠牲にもまさって主に喜ばれる。 正義と公平を行うことは、犠牲にもまさって主に喜ばれる。
4 An high look, and a proud heart, [even] the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
高ぶる目とおごる心とは、悪しき人のともしびであって、罪である。 高ぶる目とおごる心とは、悪しき人のともしびであって、罪である。
5 The thoughts of the diligent [tend] only to plenteousness: but every one that is hasty [hasteth] only to want.
勤勉な人の計画は、ついにその人を豊かにする、すべて怠るものは貧しくなる。 勤勉な人の計画は、ついにその人を豊かにする、すべて怠るものは貧しくなる。
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapour driven to and fro; they [that seek them] seek death.
偽りの舌をもって宝を得るのは、吹きはらわれる煙、死のわなである。 偽りの舌をもって宝を得るのは、吹きはらわれる煙、死のわなである。
7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away; because they refuse to do judgment.
悪しき者の暴虐はその身を滅ぼす、彼らは公平を行うことを好まないからである。 悪しき者の暴虐はその身を滅ぼす、彼らは公平を行うことを好まないからである。
8 The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked: but as for the pure, his work is right.
罪びとの道は曲っている、潔白な人の行いはまっすぐである。 罪びとの道は曲っている、潔白な人の行いはまっすぐである。
9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。 争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
悪しき者の魂は悪を行うことを願う、その隣り人にも好意をもって見られない。 悪しき者の魂は悪を行うことを願う、その隣り人にも好意をもって見られない。
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
あざけるものが罰をうけるならば、思慮のない者は知恵を得る。知恵ある者が教をうけるならば知識を得る。 あざけるものが罰をうけるならば、思慮のない者は知恵を得る。知恵ある者が教をうけるならば知識を得る。
12 The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked; [how] the wicked are overthrown to [their] ruin.
正しい神は、悪しき者の家をみとめて、悪しき者を滅びに投げいれられる。 正しい神は、悪しき者の家をみとめて、悪しき者を滅びに投げいれられる。
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry, but shall not be heard.
耳を閉じて貧しい者の呼ぶ声を聞かない者は、自分が呼ぶときに、聞かれない。 耳を閉じて貧しい者の呼ぶ声を聞かない者は、自分が呼ぶときに、聞かれない。
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a present in the bosom strong wrath.
ひそかな贈り物は憤りをなだめる、ふところのまいないは激しい怒りを和らげる。 ひそかな贈り物は憤りをなだめる、ふところのまいないは激しい怒りを和らげる。
15 It is joy to the righteous to do judgment; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
公義を行うことは、正しい者には喜びであるが、悪を行う者には滅びである。 公義を行うことは、正しい者には喜びであるが、悪を行う者には滅びである。
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall rest in the congregation of the dead.
悟りの道を離れる人は、死人の集会の中におる。 悟りの道を離れる人は、死人の集会の中におる。
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
快楽を好む者は貧しい人となり、酒と油とを好む者は富むことがない。 快楽を好む者は貧しい人となり、酒と油とを好む者は富むことがない。
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; and the treacherous [cometh] in the stead of the upright.
悪しき者は正しい者のあがないとなり、不信実な者は正しい人に代る。 悪しき者は正しい者のあがないとなり、不信実な者は正しい人に代る。
19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
争い怒る女と共におるよりは、荒野に住むほうがましだ。 争い怒る女と共におるよりは、荒野に住むほうがましだ。
20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.
知恵ある者の家には尊い宝があり、愚かな人はこれを、のみ尽す。 知恵ある者の家には尊い宝があり、愚かな人はこれを、のみ尽す。
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
正義といつくしみとを追い求める者は、命と誉とを得る。 正義といつくしみとを追い求める者は、命と誉とを得る。
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and bringeth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
知恵ある者は強い者の城にのぼって、その頼みとするとりでをくずす。 知恵ある者は強い者の城にのぼって、その頼みとするとりでをくずす。
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
口と舌とを守る者はその魂を守って、悩みにあわせない。 口と舌とを守る者はその魂を守って、悩みにあわせない。
24 The proud and haughty man, scorner is his name, he worketh in the arrogance of pride.
高ぶりおごる者を「あざける者」となづける、彼は高慢無礼な行いをするものである。 高ぶりおごる者を「あざける者」となづける、彼は高慢無礼な行いをするものである。
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
なまけ者の欲望は自分の身を殺す、これはその手を働かせないからである。 なまけ者の欲望は自分の身を殺す、これはその手を働かせないからである。
26 There is that coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.
悪しき者はひねもす人の物をむさぼる、正しい者は与えて惜しまない。 悪しき者はひねもす人の物をむさぼる、正しい者は与えて惜しまない。
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind!
悪しき者の供え物は憎まれる、悪意をもってささげる時はなおさらである。 悪しき者の供え物は憎まれる、悪意をもってささげる時はなおさらである。
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth shall speak unchallenged.

29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he ordereth his ways.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
主に向かっては知恵も悟りも、計りごとも、なんの役にも立たない。 主に向かっては知恵も悟りも、計りごとも、なんの役にも立たない。
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but victory is of the LORD,
戦いの日のために馬を備える、しかし勝利は主による。 戦いの日のために馬を備える、しかし勝利は主による。
