< Proverbs 19 >

1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity than he that perverse in his lips and is a fool.
Ó sàn kí ènìyàn jẹ́ tálákà tí ìrìn rẹ̀ kò lábùkù ju aláìgbọ́n tí ètè rẹ̀ jẹ́ àyídáyidà.
2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
Kò dára láti ní ìtara láìní ìmọ̀, tàbí kí ènìyàn kánjú kí ó sì ṣìnà.
3 The foolishness of man subverteth his way; and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
Ìwà òmùgọ̀ ènìyàn fúnra rẹ̀ a pa ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ run; síbẹ̀ ọkàn rẹ̀ yóò máa bínú sí Olúwa.
4 Wealth addeth many friends: but the poor is separated from his friend.
Ọrọ̀ máa ń fa ọ̀rẹ́ púpọ̀; ṣùgbọ́n ọ̀rẹ́ tálákà tún kọ̀ ọ́ sílẹ̀.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.
Ajẹ́rìí èké kò ní lọ láìjìyà, ẹni tí ó sì ń tú irọ́ jáde kò ní lọ lọ́fẹ̀ẹ́.
6 Many will entreat the favour of the liberal man: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
Ọ̀pọ̀ ń wá ojúrere olórí; gbogbo ènìyàn sì ni ọ̀rẹ́ ẹni tí ó lawọ́.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him! he pursueth [them with] words, [but] they are gone.
Gbogbo ará ilé e tálákà ni ó pa á tì, mélòó mélòó ni ti àwọn ọ̀rẹ́ rẹ̀ tí ń sá fún un! Bí ó tilẹ̀ ń lé wọn kiri pẹ̀lú ẹ̀bẹ̀, kò tilẹ̀ le rí wọn rárá.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
Ẹni tí ó gba ọgbọ́n fẹ́ràn ọkàn ara rẹ̀; ẹni tí ó bá káràmáṣìkí òye yóò gbèrú.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that uttereth lies shall perish.
Ajẹ́rìí èké kì yóò lọ láìjìyà ẹni tí ó sì ń tú irọ́ jáde yóò parun.
10 Delicate living is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
Kò yẹ aláìgbọ́n láti máa gbé nínú ọláńlá, mélòó mélòó bí ó ti burú tó fún ẹrú láti jẹ ọba lórí ọmọ-aládé.
11 The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
Ọgbọ́n ènìyàn a máa fún un ní sùúrù; fún ògo rẹ̀ ni láti fojú fo àṣìṣe dá.
12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
Ìbínú ọba dàbí kíké e kìnnìún, ṣùgbọ́n ojúrere rẹ̀ dàbí ìrì lára koríko.
13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
Aṣiwèrè ọmọ jẹ́ ìparun baba rẹ̀, aya tí ó máa ń jà sì dàbí ọ̀ṣọ̀ọ̀rọ̀ òjò.
14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers: but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
A máa ń jogún ilé àti ọrọ̀ lọ́dọ̀ òbí, ṣùgbọ́n aya olóye láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa ni.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
Ọ̀lẹ ṣíṣe máa ń fa oorun sísùn fọnfọn, ebi yóò sì máa pa ènìyàn tí ó lọ́ra.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul: [but] he that is careless of his ways shall die.
Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó gbọ́ ẹ̀kọ́ pa ẹnu rẹ̀ mọ́, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ó bá kẹ́gàn ọ̀nà rẹ̀ yóò kú.
17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD, and his good deed will he pay him again.
Ẹni tí ó ṣàánú tálákà, Olúwa ní ó yá, yóò sì pín in lérè ohun tí ó ti ṣe.
18 Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; and set not thy heart on his destruction.
Bá ọmọ rẹ wí nítorí nínú ìyẹn ni ìrètí wà; àìṣe bẹ́ẹ̀ ìwọ lọ́wọ́ nínú ìparun un rẹ̀.
19 A man of great wrath shall bear the penalty: for if thou deliver [him], thou must do it yet again.
Ènìyàn onínú-fùfù gbọdọ̀ gba èrè ìwà rẹ̀; bí ìwọ bá gbà á là, ìwọ yóò tún ní láti ṣe é lẹ́ẹ̀kan sí i.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Fetí sí ìmọ̀ràn kí o sì gba ẹ̀kọ́, ní ìgbẹ̀yìn gbẹ́yín ìwọ yóò di ọlọ́gbọ́n.
21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; but the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ ni ète inú ọkàn ènìyàn, ṣùgbọ́n ìfẹ́ Olúwa ní ó máa ń borí.
22 The desire of a man is [the measure of] his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
Ohun tí ènìyàn ń fẹ́ ni ìfẹ́ tí kì í yẹ̀; ó sàn láti jẹ́ tálákà ju òpùrọ́ lọ.
23 The fear of the LORD [tendeth] to life: and he [that hath it] shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Ìbẹ̀rù Olúwa ń mú ìyè wá; nígbà náà ọkàn ń balẹ̀, láìsí ewu.
24 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
Ọ̀lẹ ki ọwọ́ rẹ̀ bọ inú àwo oúnjẹ; kò tilẹ̀ ní mú u padà wá sí ẹnu rẹ̀.
25 smite a scorner, and the simple will learn prudence: and reprove one that hath understanding, [and] he will understand knowledge.
Na ẹlẹ́gàn, òpè yóò sì kọ́gbọ́n; bá olóye ènìyàn wí, yóò sì ní ìmọ̀ sí i.
26 He that spoileth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.
Ẹni tí ó ṣìkà sí baba rẹ̀, tí ó sì lé ìyá rẹ̀ jáde òun ni ọmọ tí ń ṣe ìtìjú, tí ó sì mú ẹ̀gàn wá.
27 Cease, my son, to hear instruction [only] to err from the words of knowledge.
Ọmọ mi, dẹ́kun láti tẹ́tí sí ẹ̀kọ́, tí í mú ni ṣìnà kúrò nínú ọ̀rọ̀-ìmọ̀.
28 A worthless witness mocketh at judgment: and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.
Ẹlẹ́rìí búburú fi ìdájọ́ ṣẹ̀sín, ẹnu ènìyàn búburú sì ń gbé ibi mì.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
A ti pèsè ìjìyà sílẹ̀ fún ẹlẹ́gàn; àti pàṣán fún ẹ̀yìn àwọn aṣiwèrè.
