Proverbs 18

1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, and rageth against all sound wisdom.

१जो कोणी आपणास वेगळा करतो तो स्वतःची इच्छा पूर्ण करायला पाहतो; आणि तो सर्व स्वस्थ सुज्ञतेविरूद्ध लढतो.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.

२मूर्खाला समंजसपणात आनंद मिळत नाही, पण केवळ आपल्या मनात काय आहे हे प्रगट करण्यात त्यास आनंद आहे.

3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy cometh reproach.

३जेव्हा वाईट मनुष्य येतो, त्याच्याबरोबर तिरस्कार येतो, निर्भत्सना आणि लाज त्यासह येतात.

4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.

४मनुष्याच्या मुखाचे शब्द खोल पाण्यासारखे आहेत; ज्ञानाचा झरा वाहणाऱ्या प्रवाहासारखे आहेत.

5 To accept the person of the wicked is not good, [nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.

५जे कोणी चांगले करतात त्यांचा न्याय विपरित करण्यासाठी, दुष्टाचा पक्ष धरणे चांगले नाही.

6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.

६मूर्खाचे ओठ त्यास भांडणात पाडतात, आणि त्याचे मुख मारास आमंत्रण देते.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

७मूर्खाचा नाश त्याच्या तोंडामुळे होतो, आणि त्याचे ओठ त्यास स्वतःला पाश होतात.

8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty, morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

८गप्पागोष्टी करणाऱ्याचे शब्द स्वादिष्ट पक्वान्नासारखे आहेत, आणि ते अगदी खोल पोटात शिरतात.

9 He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.

९जो कोणी आपल्या कामात निष्काळजी आहे तो नाश करणाऱ्याचा भाऊ आहे.

10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

१०परमेश्वराचे नाव बळकट बुरुजाप्रमाणे आहे; नीतिमान त्यामध्ये धावत जातो आणि सुरक्षित राहतो.

11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own imagination.

११श्रीमंताची संपत्ती त्याचे बळकट नगर आहे; आणि त्याच्या कल्पनेने तो उंच भींतीसारखा आहे.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [goeth] humility.

१२मनुष्याच्या नाशापूर्वी त्याचे अंतःकरण गर्विष्ठ असते, पण गौरवापूर्वी विनम्रता येते.

13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.

१३जो कोणी ऐकण्यापूर्वी उत्तर देतो, त्याचे ते करणे मूर्खपणाचे आणि लज्जास्पद असते.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?

१४आजारपणात मनुष्याचा आत्मा जिवंत राहतो, पण तुटलेला आत्मा कोणाच्याने सोसवेल?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

१५सुज्ञाचे मन ज्ञान प्राप्त करून घेते, आणि शहाणा ऐकून ते शोधून काढतो.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

१६मनुष्याचे दान त्याच्यासाठी मार्ग उघडते, आणि महत्वाच्या मनुष्यांसमोर त्यास आणते.

17 He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.

१७जो सुरुवातीला आपली बाजू मांडतो तो बरोबर आहे असे वाटते, पण त्याचा प्रतिस्पर्धी येऊन त्यास प्रश्र विचारतो.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

१८चिठ्ठ्या टाकल्याने भांडणे मिटतात, आणि बलवान प्रतिस्पर्धी वेगळे होतात.

19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.

१९दुखवलेल्या भावाची समजूत घालणे हे बळकट तटबंदी असलेले शहर जिंकण्यापेक्षा कठीण आहे. आणि भांडणे राजवाड्याच्या अडसरासारखे आहेत.

20 A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.

२०मनुष्याचे पोट त्याच्या मुखाच्या फळाने भरेल, तो आपल्या ओठांच्या पीकाने तृप्त होईल.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

२१जीवन किंवा मरण ही जीभेच्या अधिकारात आहेत; आणि ज्या कोणाला ती प्रिय आहे तो तिचे फळ खातो.

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

२२ज्या कोणाला पत्नी मिळते त्यास चांगली वस्तू मिळते, आणि त्यास परमेश्वराचा अनुग्रह प्राप्त होतो.

23 The poor useth entreaties: but the rich answereth roughly.

२३गरीब मनुष्य दयेची विनवणी करतो, पण श्रीमंत मनुष्य कठोरपणाने उत्तर देतो.

24 He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction: but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

२४जो कोणी पुष्कळ मित्र करतो तो आपल्याच नाशासाठी ते करतो, परंतु एखादा असा मित्र असतो की तो आपल्या भावापेक्षाही आपणांस धरून राहतो.
