< Proverbs 1 >

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
Fakkeenya Solomoon Ilma Daawit, mootii Israaʼel:
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
Ogummaa fi qajeelfama qabaachuudhaaf, dubbii beekumsa guddaa hubachuudhaaf;
3 To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness and judgment and equity;
ogummaadhaan jiraachuudhaan, qajeelummaadhaan, murtii qajeelaa kennuu fi nama wal qixxeessuudhaan qajeelfama argachuudhaaf;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion:
warra waa hin beekneef of eeggannoo kennuudhaaf, dargaggootaaf immoo beekumsaa fi hubannaa kennuudhaaf,
5 That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; and that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:
ogeeyyiin dhaggeeffatanii barumsa isaanii irratti waa haa dabalatan; warri qalbii qabanis qajeelfama haa argatan;
6 To understand a proverb, and a figure; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
kunis fakkeenyaa fi hiikkaa, jechaa fi hibboo ogeeyyii hubachuudhaaf.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: [but] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
Waaqayyoon sodaachuun jalqaba ogummaa ti; gowwoonni garuu ogummaa fi adabamuu tuffatu.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Yaa ilma ko, gorsa abbaa keetii dhaggeeffadhu; barsiisa haadha keetii illee hin gatin.
9 For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
Wanni kun mataa kee miidhagsuudhaaf gonfoo, morma kee bareechuudhaaf immoo faaya siif taʼa.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
Yaa ilma ko, yoo cubbamoonni sossobanii ofitti si harkisan, tole hin jedhiniif.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;
Yoo isaan, “Nu wajjin kottu; riphnee dhiiga namaa dhangalaasnaa; nama balleessaa hin qabne galaafachuudhaafis dhokannee eeggannaa;
12 Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
kottu akkuma awwaalaa jiraatti isaan liqimsinaa; akkuma warra boolla keessa buufamaniis guutumaan guutuutti isaan liqimsinaa; (Sheol h7585)
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil;
nu waan gatii qabu kan gosa hundaa ni arganna; manneen keenya illee boojuudhaan guuttanna;
14 Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; we will all have one purse:
ixaa kee nu wajjin buufadhu; nus korojoo tokko si wajjin qooddannaa” siin jedhan,
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
yaa ilma ko, ati isaan wajjin hin deemin; miilla keetiin karaa isaanii irra illee hin ejjetin;
16 For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
miilli isaanii cubbuutti ariifataatii; isaan dhiiga dhangalaasuuf jarjaru.
17 For in vain is the net spread, in the eyes of any bird:
Utuma simbirroonni hundi arganuu, kiyyoo buusuun waan gatii hin qabnee dha!
18 And these lay wait for their own blood, they lurk privily for their own lives.
Namoonni kunneen dhiiguma ofii isaanii riphanii eeggatu; lubbuma ofii isaanii gaadu!
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; it taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
Kun dhuma warra qabeenya karaa hamaadhaan argamu duukaa buʼan hundaa ti; wanni akkasii jireenya warra isa argatanii balleessa.
20 Wisdom crieth aloud in the street; she uttereth her voice in the broad places;
Ogummaan karaa irratti guddiftee iyyiti; iddoo wal gaʼii uummataattis sagalee ishee ol fudhatti.
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse; at the entering in of the gates, in the city, she uttereth her words:
Isheen fiixee daandii irraa iyyiti; karra magaalaa duraas akkana jettee dubbatti:
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and scorners delight them in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
“Isin warri homaa hin beekne kun hamma yoomiitti karaa keessan kan faayidaa hin qabne sana jaallattu? Warri namatti qoosan hamma yoomiitti qoosaa sanatti gammadanii gowwoonnis beekumsa jibbu?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Mormii koo qalbeeffadhaa; ani yaada koo isinii nan dhangalaasa; dubbii koos isiniifin ibsa.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
Garuu sababii isin yeroo ani isin waametti diddanii yeroo ani harka balʼifadhetti namni tokko iyyuu na hin dhaggeeffatiniif,
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
waan isin gorsa koo hunda tuffattanii dheekkamsa koo dhagaʼuu diddaniif,
26 I also will laugh in [the day of] your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
anis badiisa keessanitti nan kolfa, yeroo balaan isinitti dhufuttis nan qoosa;
27 When your fear cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you.
yeroo balaan akkuma bubbeetti isin fudhatutti, yeroo badiisni akkuma bubbee hamaatti isin haxaaʼutti, yeroo dhiphinaa fi rakkinni isinitti dhufutti ani isinittan qoosa.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:
“Yeroo sana isaan na waammatu; ani garuu isaan jalaa hin owwaadhu; isaan na barbaadu; garuu na hin argatan.
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
Isaan waan beekumsa jibbanii Waaqayyoon sodaachuu illee filachuu didaniif,
30 They would none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof:
waan gorsa koo fudhachuu didanii dheekkamsa koos tuffataniif,
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
isaan gatii karaa isaanii ni nyaatu; buʼaa jalʼina isaaniis ni quufu.
32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
Gowwoota waa dagachuutu isaan balleessaatii; quufni gowwootaa isaanuma balleessa;
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, and shall be quiet without fear of evil.
namni na dhaggeeffatu kam iyyuu garuu nagaadhaan jiraata; inni qabbanaan jiraata; wanni hamaanis isa hin sodaachisu.”
