Malachi 3

1 Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in, behold, he cometh, saith the LORD of hosts.

「見よ、わたしはわが使者をつかわす。彼はわたしの前に道を備える。またあなたがたが求める所の主は、たちまちその宮に来る。見よ、あなたがたの喜ぶ契約の使者が来ると、万軍の主が言われる。

2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

その来る日には、だれが耐え得よう。そのあらわれる時には、だれが立ち得よう。彼は金をふきわける者の火のようであり、布さらしの灰汁のようである。

3 and he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver; and they shall offer unto the LORD offerings in righteousness.

彼は銀をふきわけて清める者のように座して、レビの子孫を清め、金銀のように彼らを清める。そして彼らは義をもって、ささげ物を主にささげる。

4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in ancient years.

その時ユダとエルサレムとのささげ物は、昔の日のように、また先の年のように主に喜ばれる。

5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

そしてわたしはあなたがたに近づいて、さばきをなし、占い者、姦淫を行う者、偽りの誓いをなす者にむかい、雇人の賃銀をかすめ、やもめと、みなしごとをしえたげ、寄留の他国人を押しのけ、わたしを恐れない者どもにむかって、すみやかにあかしを立てると、万軍の主は言われる。

6 For I the LORD change not; therefore ye, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

主なるわたしは変ることがない。それゆえ、ヤコブの子らよ、あなたがたは滅ぼされない。

7 From the days of your fathers ye have turned aside from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye say, Wherein shall we return?

あなたがたは、その先祖の日から、わが定めを離れて、これを守らなかった。わたしに帰れ、わたしはあなたがたに帰ろうと、万軍の主は言われる。ところが、あなたがたは『われわれはどうして帰ろうか』と尋ねる。

8 Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

人は神の物を盗むことをするだろうか。しかしあなたがたは、わたしの物を盗んでいる。あなたがたはまた『どうしてわれわれは、あなたの物を盗んでいるのか』と言う。十分の一と、ささげ物をもってである。

9 Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation.

あなたがたは、のろいをもって、のろわれる。あなたがたすべての国民は、わたしの物を盗んでいるからである。

10 Bring ye the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough [to receive it].

わたしの宮に食物のあるように、十分の一全部をわたしの倉に携えてきなさい。これをもってわたしを試み、わたしが天の窓を開いて、あふるる恵みを、あなたがたに注ぐか否かを見なさいと、万軍の主は言われる。

11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

わたしは食い滅ぼす者を、あなたがたのためにおさえて、あなたがたの地の産物を、滅ぼさないようにしよう。また、あなたがたのぶどうの木が、その熟する前に、その実を畑に落すことのないようにしようと、万軍の主は言われる。

12 And all nations shall call you happy: for ye shall he a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

こうして万国の人は、あなたがたを祝福された者ととなえるであろう。あなたがたは楽しい地となるからであると、万軍の主は言われる。

13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein have we spoken against thee?

主は言われる、あなたがたは言葉を激しくして、わたしに逆らった。しかもあなたがたは『われわれはあなたに逆らって、どんな事を言ったか』と言う。

14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

あなたがたは言った、『神に仕える事はつまらない。われわれがその命令を守り、かつ万軍の主の前に、悲しんで歩いたからといって、なんの益があるか。

15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are built up; yea, they tempt God, and are delivered.

今われわれは高ぶる者を、祝福された者と思う。悪を行う者は栄えるばかりでなく、神を試みても罰せられない』」。

16 Then they that feared the LORD spake one with another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.

そのとき、主を恐れる者は互に語った。主は耳を傾けてこれを聞かれた。そして主を恐れる者、およびその名を心に留めている者のために、主の前に一つの覚え書がしるされた。

17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in the day that I do make, [even] a peculiar treasure; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

「万軍の主は言われる、彼らはわたしが手を下して事を行う日に、わたしの者となり、わたしの宝となる。また人が自分に仕える子をあわれむように、わたしは彼らをあわれむ。

18 Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

その時あなたがたは、再び義人と悪人、神に仕える者と、仕えない者との区別を知るようになる。
