Malachi 2
1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
A présent donc, à vous cet ordre, sacrificateurs!
2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, then will I send the curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.
Si vous n'obéissez pas et n'avez pas à cœur de donner gloire à mon nom, dit l'Éternel des armées, j'enverrai parmi vous la malédiction, et maudirai vos bénédictions; oui, je les maudirai, parce que vous ne l'avez pas à cœur.
3 Behold, I will rebuke the seed for your sake, and will spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your sacrifices; and ye shall be taken away with it.
Voici, j'interdirai vos semences et vous jetterai du fumier au visage, le fumier de vos victimes solennelles dans lequel on vous poussera.
4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
Et vous saurez que je vous ai adressé cet ordre, afin que mon alliance avec Lévi subsistât, dit l'Éternel des armées.
5 My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him that he might fear, and he feared me, and stood in awe of my name.
Mon alliance avec lui fut vie et paix, et je les lui accordai pour qu'il eût. la crainte; et il me craignit et à mon nom il trembla.
6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and uprightness, and did turn many away from iniquity.
La loi de vérité fut dans sa bouche, et l'iniquité ne s'est point trouvée sur ses lèvres; en paix et en droiture il marcha avec moi, et en retira beaucoup du péché.
7 For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
Car les lèvres du sacrificateur doivent garder la science, et c'est à sa bouche qu'on doit demander la loi, car il est le messager de l'Éternel des armées.
8 But ye are turned aside out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mais vous, vous vous êtes écartés de la voie, vous avez été par la loi même cause de la chute de plusieurs, et vous avez anéanti l'alliance de Lévi, dit l'Éternel des armées.
9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have had respect of persons in the law.
De même aussi moi je vous rendrai méprisables et abjects pour tout le peuple, parce que vous ne gardez pas mes voies et que vous faites acception des personnes devant la loi.
10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?
N'avons-nous pas tous un même père? un même Dieu ne nous a-t-Il pas créés? Pourquoi nous sommes-nous infidèles l'un à l'autre, afin de violer l'alliance de nos pères?
11 Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loveth, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Juda a été infidèle, et une abomination est commise en Israël et à Jérusalem; car Juda a profané ce qui est consacré à l'Éternel, ce qu'il aime, et il a épousé des filles de dieux étrangers.
12 The LORD will cut off to the man that doeth this him that waketh and him that answereth, out of the tents of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.
A l'homme qui le fait, l'Éternel retranchera des tentes de Jacob et le guet vigilant et celui qui répond et celui qui offre des oblations à l'Éternel des armées.
13 And this again ye do: ye cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with sighing, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, neither receiveth it with good will at your hand.
Et en second lieu, voici ce que vous faites: Vous couvrez de larmes l'autel de l'Éternel, de pleurs et de sanglots, tellement qu'il n'a plus égard aux sacrifices et ne reçoit plus de vos mains de dons qui lui plaisent.
14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, though she is thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Et vous dites: Pourquoi? Parce que l'Éternel intervint comme témoin entre toi et la femme de ta jeunesse à qui tu es infidèle et qui est ta compagne et ta femme d'alliance. –
15 And did he not make one, although he had the residue of the spirit? And wherefore one? He sought a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
« Mais un homme ne l'a-t-il pas fait? Et cependant il a conservé sa vie. » – Et pourquoi cet homme unique l'a-t-il fait? Il cherchait la postérité que Dieu [lui avait promise]. C'est pourquoi, au nom de votre vie, prenez garde, et que nul ne soit infidèle à la femme de sa jeunesse.
16 For I hate putting away, saith the LORD, the God of Israel, and him that covereth his garment with violence, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
Car je hais la répudiation, dit l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, et celui qui couvre d'ignominie son vêtement, dit l'Éternel des armées. Aussi, au nom de votre vie, prenez garde et ne soyez point infidèles.
17 Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? In that ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or where is the God of judgment?
Vous fatiguez l'Éternel par vos discours, et vous dites: « En quoi le fatiguons-nous? » En disant: Quiconque fait le mal, plaît à l'Éternel, et c'est à de tels hommes qu'il prend plaisir; ou bien: Où est le Dieu de la justice?
