Judges 20
1 Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD at Mizpah.
És kivonultak mind az Izraél fiai és egybegyűlt a község mint egy ember Dántól Beér-Sébáig, meg Gileád országa, az Örökkévalóhoz Miczpába.
2 And the chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
És odaálltak az egész nép kiválói, Izraél törzsei mind, Isten népének gyülekezetében: négyszázezer ember, gyalogos, kardrántó.
3 (Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah.) And the children of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?
Meghallották Benjámin fiai, hogy fölmentek Izraél fiai Miczpába. És mondták Izraél fiai: Beszéljetek, miképpen történt e gonoszság?
4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
Erre megszólalt a levita férfiú, a meggyilkolt asszonynak férje, és mondta: A Benjáminhoz tartozó Gibeába érkeztem én meg ágyasam, hogy megháljunk.
5 And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead.
Ekkor reám támadtak Gibea urai, körülvették miattam éjjel a házat; engem megölni szándékoztak, ágyasomat pedig meggyalázták és meghalt.
6 And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
Erre megfogtam ágyasamat, földaraboltam és szétküldtem Izraél birtokának egész területén, mert fajtalanságot és aljasságot követtek el Izraélben.
7 Behold, ye children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.
Íme, ti Izraél fiai mind, hozzatok magatoknak döntést és tanácsot itten.
8 And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn unto his house.
Ekkor fölkelt az egész nép, mint egy ember, mondván: Nem megy közülünk senki a sátrába és nem tér be közülünk senki a házába.
9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah; [we will go up] against it by lot;
Most tehát ez az, a mit tenni fogunk Gibeával: Ellene sors szerint!
10 and we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
Vegyünk tíz embert százból, mind az Izraél törzseiből, és százat ezerből és ezret tízezerből, hogy élelmet vigyenek a nép számára, hogy cselekedjenek, a mint a Benjáminbeli Gébába érkeznek, egészen azon aljassághoz képest, melyet elkövettek Izraélben.
11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
És összegyülekezett Izraél minden embere a város ellen, mint egy ember egyesülve.
12 And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is come to pass among you?
És küldtek Izraél törzsei embereket Benjámin egész törzsébe, mondván: Micsoda gonoszság az, mely történt köztetek?
13 Now therefore deliver up the men, the sons of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
Most tehát adjátok ki azokat az alávaló embereket, a kik Gibeában vannak, hogy megöljük őket és kipusztítsuk a gonoszságot Izraélből. De nem akartak Benjámin fiai hallgatni testvéreik, Izraél fiainak szavára.
14 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
S összegyűltek Benjámin fiai a városokból Gibeába, hogy kivonuljanak háborúra Izraél fiaival.
15 And the children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
Szám szerint voltak Benjámin fiai ama napon a városokból huszonhatezer kardrántó ember, Gibea lakóin kívül, kik szám szerint voltak hétszáz válogatott ember.
16 Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at an hair-breadth, and not miss.
Ez egész népből hétszáz válogatott ember balogkezű volt; mind parittyakövet hajított egy hajszálra és el nem vétette.
17 And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
Izraél emberei pedig voltak szám szerint, Benjáminon kívül, négyszázezer kardrántó ember, mind ez harczra való ember.
18 And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah [shall go up] first.
Fölkeltek és fölmentek Bét-Élbe és megkérdezték Istent, és mondták Izraél fiai: Ki vonuljon közülünk először háborúra Benjámin fiai ellen? Mondta az Örökkévaló: Jehúda először!
19 And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
És fölkeltek Izraél fiai reggel és táboroztak Gibea ellen.
20 And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
Kivonultak Izraél emberei háborúra Benjáminnal; és sorakoztak ellenük Izraél emberei harczra Gibea mellett.
21 And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty and two thousand men.
Ekkor kivonultak Benjámin fiai Gibeából és földre terítettek ama napon Izraél közül huszonkétezer embert.
22 And the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
De megbátorodott a nép, Izraél emberei, és újból csatára sorakoztak azon a helyen, a hol sorakoztak az első napon.
23 (And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)
Fölmentek Izraél fiai és sírtak az Örökkévaló színe előtt egész estig s megkérdezték az Örökkévalót, mondván: Odalépjek-e újból harczra Benjámin fiaival, testvéremmel? Mondta az Örökkévaló: Vonuljatok ellene.
24 And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
Közeledtek tehát Izraél fiai Benjámin fiai felé a második napon.
25 And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
És kivonult elébük Benjámin Gibeából a második napon és földre terítettek Izraél fiai közül még tizennyolczezer embert, mind ezek kardrántók.
26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
Ekkor fölmentek Izraél fiai mind és az egész nép és jöttek Bét-Élbe, sírtak és ott maradtak az Örökkévaló színe előtt és böjtöltek ama napon egész estig; és bemutattak égő- és békeáldozatokat az Örökkévaló színe előtt.
27 And the children of Israel asked of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
S megkérdezték Izraél fiai az Örökkévalót – ott volt ugyanis az Isten szövetségének ládája ama napokban,
28 and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days, ) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into thine hand.
Pinechász, Eleázár, Áron fiának, ott állt előtte ama napokban – mondván: Kivonuljak-e újból harczra Benjámin testvérem fiai ellen, avagy abbahagyjam? Mondta az Örökkévaló: Vonuljatok, mert holnap kezedbe adom őt.
29 And Israel set liers in wait against Gibeah round about.
És elhelyezett Izraél lescsapatot Gibea ellen köröskörül.
30 And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
És fölvonultak Izraél fiai Benjámin fiai ellen a harmadik napon és sorakoztak Gibea ellen, mint már kétszer.
31 And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to Beth-el, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
Erre kivonultak Benjámin fiai a nép elejébe – elszakasztattak a várostól – és kezdtek elesetteket ejteni a nép közül mint már kétszer, az országutakon, melyeknek egyike fölmegy Bét-Élnek, másika Gibeának, a mezőségen, mintegy harmincz embert Izraél közül.
32 And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us rise, and draw them away from the city unto the highways.
És mondták Benjámin fiai: Megveretnek tőlünk mint első ízben! Izraél fiai pedig mondták: Hadd fussunk és szakasszuk el a várostól az országutakra.
33 And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel brake forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.
Mind az Izraél emberei pedig fölkeltek helyükből és sorakoztak Báal-Támárban; Izraél lescsapatja azonban előtört helyéből, Máaré-Gébából,
34 And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was close upon them.
és értek Gibea átellenébe egész Izraélből válogatott emberek tízezeren és heves volt a csata; amazok pedig nem tudták, hogy hozzájuk ér a veszedelem.
35 And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.
És megverte az Örökkévaló Benjámint Izraél előtt és leterítettek Izraél fiai Benjámin közül ama napon huszonötezer és száz embert, mindezek kardrántók.
36 So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set against Gibeah.
S látták Benjámin fiai, hogy megverettek. Helyet adtak Izraél emberei Benjáminnak, mert bíztak a lescsapatban, melyet elhelyeztek volt Gibea ellen.
37 And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
A lescsapat pedig sietett, rárontott Gibeára; s elhúzódott a lescsapat és megverte az egész várost a kard élével.
38 Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait was, that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
Azon megállapodásuk volt Izraél embereinek a lescsapattal, hogy erősen hagyják fölszállni a füstfelleget a városból.
39 And the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.:
És megfordultak Izraél emberei a csatában; Benjámin pedig kezdte verni Izraél embereit s elesett volt közülük mintegy harmincz ember, mert mondták: Bizony végképp megveretik előttünk, mint az előbbi csatában.
40 But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the whole of the city went up [in smoke] to heaven.
A füstfelleg azonban kezdett fölszállni a városból, egy füstoszlop; ekkor hátrafordult Benjámin és íme, ég felé szállt az egész város égése –
41 And the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.
Izraél emberei pedig megfordultak, s megrémültek Benjámin emberei, mert látták, hogy hozzájuk ért a veszedelem.
42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and they which came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst thereof.
Megfordultak tehát Izraél emberei előtt a puszta felé, de a csata utolérte őket; a városokból valókat is leterítették közöttük.
43 They enclosed the Benjamites round about, [and] chased them, [and] trode them down at [their] resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.
Bekerítették Benjámint, üldözték őt, pihenő helyen letiporták, egészen Gibeával szemben napkelet felől.
44 And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these [were] men of valour.
És elesett Benjámin közül tizennyolczezer ember: mindezek vitéz férfiak.
45 And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and followed hard after them unto Gidom, and smote of them two thousand men.
Fordultak és megfutamodtak a puszta felé a Rimmón sziklájáig és böngészve bennük, megöltek az országutakon ötezer embert; és nyomukban voltak Gideómig és levertek közülök kétezer embert.
46 So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.
Voltak tehát mind, a kik elestek Benjáminból ama napon: huszonötezer kardrántó férfiú; mindezek vitéz férfiak.
47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months.
De hatszáz ember fordult és megfutamodott a puszta felé a Rimmón sziklájáig; és maradtak Rimmón sziklájánál négy hónapig.
48 And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
Izraél emberei pedig visszatértek Benjámin fiaihoz és leverték a kard élével városostul, férfiastul, barmostul, mindent a mit találtak; mind a városokat is, melyekre találtak, tűzbe borították.
