Joshua 14

1 And these are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ [houses] of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed unto them,

Esto es lo que los hijos de Israel heredaron en tierra de Canaán, que les repartieron Eleazar, el sacerdote, Josué, hijo de Nun, y los jefes de las casas paternas de las tribus de los hijos de Israel,

2 by the lot of their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

tal como Yavé ordenó por medio de Moisés. La heredad se dio por sorteo a las nueve tribus y a la media tribu.

3 For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

Porque Moisés dio heredades a las dos tribus y a la otra media tribu en la otra parte del Jordán. A los levitas no les dio herencia entre ellos.

4 For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for their cattle and for their substance.

Pues los hijos de José formaron dos tribus: Manasés y Efraín. No dieron porción de la tierra a los levitas, sino solo ciudades para vivir, con sus pastizales para sus ganados y sus rebaños.

5 As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

Los hijos de Israel hicieron como Yavé ordenó a Moisés, y se repartieron la tierra.

6 Then the children of Judah drew nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD spake unto Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-barnea.

Los hijos de Judá acudieron a Josué en Gilgal. Caleb, hijo de Jefone, ceneceo, le dijo: Tú sabes lo que Yavé dijo a Moisés, varón de ʼElohim, con respecto a mí y a ti en Cades Barnea.

7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

Yo tenía 40 años cuando Moisés, esclavo de Yavé, me envió desde Cades Barnea a reconocer la tierra. Le llevé información conforme a lo que tenía en mi corazón.

8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

Pero mis hermanos, los que subieron conmigo, hicieron desfallecer el corazón del pueblo, aunque yo seguí con integridad a Yavé, mi ʼElohim.

9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy foot hath trodden shall be an inheritance to thee and to thy children for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

Aquel día Moisés juró: Ciertamente la tierra que tu pie pisó será herencia tuya y de tus hijos para siempre, por cuanto seguiste con integridad a Yavé, mi ʼElohim.

10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he spake, these forty and five years, from the time that the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

Ahora bien, Yavé me permitió vivir, como Él dijo, estos 45 años desde cuando Él habló esta palabra a Moisés, cuando Israel vagaba por el desierto. Ahora, mira, hoy tengo 85 años de edad.

11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war and to go out and to come in.

Aún estoy tan fuerte como el día cuando Moisés me envió. Como era entonces mi fuerza, así es ahora para la guerra, tanto para salir como para entrar.

12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fenced: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD spake.

Ahora pues, dame esta región montañosa, de la cual Yavé habló aquel día, porque tú mismo oíste aquel día que los anaceos estaban allí, y que hay ciudades grandes y fortificadas. Tal vez Yavé esté conmigo y yo pueda echarlos, como Yavé dijo.

13 And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

Entonces Josué lo bendijo, y dio Hebrón como heredad a Caleb, hijo de Jefone.

14 Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, unto this day; because that he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.

Por tanto Hebrón fue la herencia de Caleb, hijo de Jefone, ceneceo, hasta hoy, porque siguió cumplidamente a Yavé ʼElohim de Israel.

15 Now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kirjath-arba; [which Arba was] the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

Pero, el nombre de Hebrón antiguamente fue Quiriat-arba, porque Arba fue un hombre grande entre los anaceos. Entonces la tierra tuvo reposo de la guerra.
