John 4
1 When therefore the Lord knew how that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John
Quand le Seigneur connut que les Pharisiens avaient appris que Jésus faisait plus de disciples et en baptisait plus que Jean,
2 (although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),
— toutefois ce n'était pas Jésus lui-même qui baptisait, mais ses disciples, —
3 he left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
il quitta la Judée, et s'en alla de nouveau en Galilée.
4 And he must needs pass through Samaria.
Or, il lui fallait passer par la Samarie.
5 So he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph:
Il vint donc en une ville de Samarie, nommée Sichar, près du champ que Jacob avait donné à son fils Joseph.
6 and Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
Or, là était le puits de Jacob. Jésus fatigué de la route, s'assit tout simplement au bord du puits: il était environ la sixième heure.
7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
Une femme de Samarie vint puiser de l'eau. Jésus lui dit: " Donnez-moi à boire. "
8 For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.
Car ses disciples étaient allés à la ville pour acheter des vivres.
9 The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
La femme samaritaine lui dit: " Comment vous, qui êtes Juif, me demandez-vous à boire, à moi qui suis Samaritaine? " (les Juifs, en effet, n'ont pas de commerce avec les Samaritains).
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
Jésus lui répondit: " Si vous connaissiez le don de Dieu, et qui est celui qui vous dit: Donnez-moi à boire, vous même lui en auriez fait la demande, et il vous aurait donné de l'eau vive. —
11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
Seigneur, lui dit la femme, vous n'avez rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond: d'où auriez-vous donc cette eau vive?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
Etes-vous plus grand que notre père Jacob, qui nous a donné ce puits, et en a bu lui-même, ainsi que ses fils et ses troupeaux? "
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Jésus lui répondit: " Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif;
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.
La femme lui dit: " Seigneur, donnez-moi de cette eau, afin que je n'aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus puiser ici. —
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
Allez, lui dit Jésus, appelez votre mari, et venez ici. "
17 The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:
La femme répondit: " Je n'ai point de mari. " Jésus lui dit: " Vous avez raison de dire: Je n'ai point de mari;
18 for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.
car vous avez eu cinq maris, et celui que vous avez maintenant n'est pas à vous; en cela, vous avez dit vrai. "
19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
La femme dit: " Seigneur, je vois que vous êtes un prophète.
20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne, et vous, vous dites que c'est à Jérusalem qu'est le lieu où il faut adorer. "
21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.
Jésus dit: " Femme, croyez-moi, l'heure vient où ce ne sera ni sur cette montagne, ni dans Jérusalem, que vous adorerez le Père.
22 Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know: for salvation is from the Jews.
Vous adorez ce que vous ne connaissez pas; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, car le salut vient des Juifs.
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.
Mais l'heure approche, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité; ce sont de tels adorateurs que le Père demande.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
Dieu est esprit, et ceux qui l'adorent, doivent l'adorer en esprit et en vérité. "
25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (which is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.
La femme lui répondit: " Je sais que le Messie (celui qu'on appelle Christ) va venir; lorsqu'il sera venu, il nous instruira de toutes choses. "
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am [he].
Jésus lui dit: " Je le suis, moi qui vous parle. "
27 And upon this came his disciples; and they marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?
Et à ce moment arrivèrent ses disciples, et ils s'étonnèrent de ce qu'il parlait avec une femme; néanmoins, aucun ne dit: " Que demandez-vous? " ou: " Pourquoi parlez-vous avec elle? "
28 So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the men,
La femme, alors, laissant là sa cruche, s'en alla dans la ville, et dit aux habitants:
29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that [ever] I did: can this be the Christ?
" Venez voir un homme qui m'a dit ce que j'ai fait; ne serait-ce point le Christ? "
30 They went out of the city, and were coming to him.
Ils sortirent de la ville, et vinrent à lui.
31 In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.
Pendant l'intervalle, ses disciples le pressaient, en disant: " Maître, mangez. "
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.
Mais il leur dit: " J'ai à manger une nourriture que vous ne connaissez pas. "
33 The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him [aught] to eat?
Et les disciples se disaient les uns aux autres: " Quelqu'un lui aurait-il apporté à manger? "
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.
Jésus leur dit: " Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé et d'accomplir son œuvre.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.
Ne dites-vous pas vous-mêmes: Encore quatre mois, et ce sera la moisson? Moi, je vous dis: Levez les yeux, et voyez les champs qui déjà blanchissent pour la moisson.
36 He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
Le moissonneur reçoit son salaire et recueille du fruit pour la vie éternelle, afin que le semeur et le moissonneur se réjouissent ensemble. (aiōnios g166)
37 For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
Car ici s'applique l'adage: Autre est le semeur et autre le moissonneur.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not laboured: others have laboured, and ye are entered into their labour.
Je vous ai envoyés moissonner ce que vous n'avez pas travaillé; d'autres ont travaillé et vous, vous êtes entrés dans leur travail. "
39 And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that [ever] I did.
Or, beaucoup de Samaritains de cette ville crurent en Jésus sur la parole de la femme qui avait rendu ce témoignage: " Il m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait. "
40 So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.
Les Samaritains étant donc venus vers lui, le prièrent de rester chez eux, et il y demeura deux jours.
41 And many more believed because of his word;
Et un plus grand nombre crurent en lui pour l'avoir entendu lui-même.
42 and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
Et ils disaient à la femme: " Maintenant ce n'est plus à cause de ce que vous avez dit que nous croyons; car nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons qu'il est vraiment le Sauveur du monde. "
43 And after the two days he went forth from thence into Galilee.
Après ces deux jours, Jésus partit de là pour se rendre en Galilée.
44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.
Car Jésus avait déclaré lui-même qu'un prophète n'est point honoré dans sa patrie.
45 So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
Lorsqu'il fut arrivé en Galilée, les Galiléens l'accueillirent, ayant vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem pendant la fête; car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête.
46 He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
Il retourna donc à Cana en Galilée, où il avait changé l'eau en vin. Or, il y avait un officier du roi dont le fils était malade à Capharnaüm.
47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought [him] that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.
Ayant appris que Jésus arrivait de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui, et le pria de descendre, pour guérir son fils qui était à la mort.
48 Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.
Jésus lui dit: " Si vous ne voyez des signes et des prodiges, vous ne croyez point. "
49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
L'officier du roi lui dit: " Seigneur, venez avant que mon enfant meure. —
50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.
Va, lui répondit Jésus, ton enfant est plein de vie. " Cet homme crut à la parole que Jésus lui avait dite et partit.
51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived.
Comme il s'en retournait, ses serviteurs vinrent à sa rencontre, et lui apprirent que son enfant vivait.
52 So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
Il leur demanda à quelle heure il s'était trouvé mieux, et ils lui dirent: " Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l'a quitté. "
53 So the father knew that [it was] at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
Le père reconnut que c'était l'heure à laquelle Jésus lui avait dit: " Ton fils est plein de vie ", et il crut, lui et toute sa maison.
54 This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judaea into Galilee.
Ce fut le second miracle que fit Jésus en revenant de Judée en Galilée.
