Job 3
1 After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
Potem Hiob otworzył swoje usta i przeklinał swój dzień.
2 And Job answered and said:
Hiob odezwał się i zawołał:
3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night which said, There is a man child conceived.
Niech zginie dzień, w którym się urodziłem, i noc, [w którą] powiedziano: Poczęty mężczyzna.
4 Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it.
Niech ten dzień stanie się ciemnością, niech o niego nie troszczy się Bóg z wysokości i nie oświetla go światłość.
5 Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own; let a cloud dwell upon it; let all that maketh black the day terrify it.
Niech go pokryje ciemność i cień śmierci, niech go ogarnie obłok i przerazi mrok dnia.
6 As for that night, let thick darkness seize upon it: let it not rejoice among the days of the year; let it not come into the number of the months.
Niech tą nocą zawładnie ciemność, niech nie będzie liczona wśród dni roku [i] nie wejdzie w liczbę miesięcy.
7 Lo, let that night be barren; let no joyful voice come therein.
Niech ta noc będzie samotna, niech nie będzie w niej radosnego śpiewu.
8 Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan.
Niech przeklną ją ci, którzy przeklinają dzień, którzy są gotowi podnieść swój lament.
9 Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark: let it look for light, but have none; neither let it behold the eyelids of the morning:
Niech gwiazdy zaćmią się [o] zmierzchu, niech nie doczeka się światła ani nie zobaczy zorzy porannej;
10 Because it shut not up the doors of my [mother’s] womb, nor hid trouble from mine eyes.
Bo nie zamknęła drzwi łona mej [matki] i nie ukryła smutku przed moimi oczami.
11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
Czemu nie umarłem w łonie? [Czemu] nie zginąłem, kiedy wyszedłem z łona?
12 Why did the knees receive me? or why the breasts, that I should suck?
Czemu przyjęły mnie kolana? Czemu [przyjęły mnie] piersi, abym mógł [je] ssać?
13 For now should I have lain down and been quiet; I should have slept; then had I been at rest:
Teraz bowiem leżałbym i trwał w spokoju, spałbym i odpoczywał;
14 With kings and counsellors of the earth, which built up waste places for themselves;
Z królami i z doradcami ziemi, którzy sobie budowali opustoszałe miejsca;
15 Or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver:
Albo z książętami, którzy mieli złoto i napełnili swe domy srebrem;
16 Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light.
Albo [czemu] nie stałem się jak ukryty, martwy płód, jak niemowlęta, [które] nie widziały światła?
17 There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest.
Tam bezbożni przestają straszyć, tam pozbawieni siły odpoczywają.
18 There the prisoners are at ease together; they hear not the voice of the taskmaster.
Tam więźniowie razem wypoczywają i nie słyszą głosu ciemięzcy.
19 The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
Mały i wielki [są] tam sobie równi i niewolnik jest wolny od swego pana.
20 Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, and life unto the bitter in soul;
Czemu nędznemu dane jest światło, a życie [tym], którzy są rozgoryczeni na duszy;
21 Which long for death, but it cometh not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures;
Którzy z tęsknotą wypatrują śmierci, a [ta] nie przychodzi, choć jej szukają pilniej niż ukrytych skarbów;
22 Which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?
Którzy wielce się radują i cieszą, kiedy grób znajdują?
23 [Why is light given] to a man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?
[Czemu dane jest światło] człowiekowi, którego droga jest ukryta i którego Bóg osaczył?
24 For my sighing cometh before I eat, and my roarings are poured out like water.
Kiedy bowiem mam jeść, przychodzi moje wzdychanie, a moje jęki rozchodzą się jak woda;
25 For the thing which I fear cometh upon me, and that which I am afraid of cometh unto me.
Bo to, czego się bałem, spotkało mnie, a to, czego się obawiałem, spadło na mnie.
26 I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest; but trouble cometh.
Nie byłem bezpieczny, nie miałem spokoju ani odpoczynku, a jednak nadeszła trwoga.
