Jeremiah 15
1 Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
Et l'Éternel me dit: Quand même Moïse et Samuel se présenteraient devant moi, mon cœur ne serait pas pour ce peuple. Chasse-les de ma présence, et qu'ils sortent!
2 And it shall come to pass, when they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD: Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity.
Et s'ils te disent: Où irons-nous? tu leur diras: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: A la mort celui qui est pour la mort, à l'épée celui qui est pour l'épée, à la famine celui qui est pour la famine, à la captivité celui qui est pour la captivité.
3 And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy.
Et je les punirai de quatre manières, dit l'Éternel, par l'épée pour les tuer, et par les chiens pour les traîner, et par les oiseaux des Cieux et les bêtes de la terre pour les dévorer et les détruire;
4 And I will cause them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
et je les exposerai aux avanies de tous les royaumes de la terre, à cause de Manassé, fils d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda, pour tout ce qu'il a fait dans Jérusalem.
5 For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall turn aside to ask of thy welfare?
En effet, qui aura pitié de toi, Jérusalem? et qui te plaindra, et qui t'abordera pour s'informer de ta situation?
6 Thou hast rejected me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore have I stretched out my hand against thee, and destroyed thee; I am weary with repenting.
Tu m'as abandonné, dit l'Éternel, tu t'es tirée en arrière; aussi j'étendrai ma main contre toi, et je te détruirai: je suis las de miséricorde.
7 And I have fanned them with a fan in the gates of the land; I have bereaved [them] of children, I have destroyed my people; they have not returned from their ways.
Je les vannerai avec le van aux portes du pays, je leur ôterai leurs enfants, et je ferai périr mon peuple qui ne quitte pas ses voies.
8 Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused anguish and terrors to fall upon her suddenly.
J'y ferai plus de veuves qu'il n'y a de grains de sable dans la mer, j'amènerai contre eux, sur la mère et le jeune homme, le dévastateur en plein jour, et je ferai tomber sur eux tout à coup la douleur et la peine.
9 She that hath borne seven languisheth; she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day; she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD.
La mère de sept fils gémit, elle rend l'âme, son soleil s'est couché avant la fin du jour, elle est dans l'opprobre et l'ignominie. Et leur reste, je l'abandonnerai au glaive de leurs ennemis, dit l'Éternel.
10 Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent on usury, neither have men lent to me on usury; [yet] every one of them doth curse me.
« Malheureux que je suis! car, ô ma mère, tu m'as fait naître homme de contestation et de querelle pour toute la terre. Je n'ai point emprunté, on n'a point emprunté de moi; [cependant] tous me maudissent. »
11 The LORD said, Verily I will strengthen thee for good; verily I will cause the enemy to make supplication unto thee in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
L'Éternel me dit: Non, je te tirerai de là pour te mettre en bon lieu, et je ferai venir à toi suppliants, au temps des revers et au temps de la détresse, tes propres ennemis.
12 Can one break iron, even iron from the north, and brass?
Brisera-t-on le fer, le fer qui vient du Nord, et l'airain?
13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give for a spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.
Je donnerai vos biens et vos trésors en pillage, et sans payement, à cause de tous tes péchés commis dans toutes tes limites,
14 And I will make [them] to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
et je les ferai passer avec ton ennemi dans un pays que tu ne connais pas; car un feu brûle dans mes narines, sur vous il est allumé.
15 O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered reproach.
Tu sais [tout], Éternel, souviens-toi de moi, visite-moi, et venge-moi de mes persécuteurs! A force d'être patient, ne me laisse pas enlever; sache que pour toi je subis l'ignominie.
16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Dès que tes paroles me furent offertes, je les dévorai; et tes paroles devinrent l'allégresse et la joie de mon cœur, car je suis appelé de ton nom, Éternel, Dieu des armées!
17 I sat not in the assembly of them that make merry, nor rejoiced: I sat alone because of thy hand; for thou hast filled me with indignation.
Je ne m'assis point dans les cercles des rieurs, je ne m'y égayai point; étant sous ta main je m'assis solitaire, car tu me pénétrais de courroux.
18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou indeed be unto me as a deceitful [brook], as waters that fail?
Pourquoi ma souffrance est-elle permanente, et ma plaie incurable? Elle ne veut pas guérir. Tu es pour moi comme une source perfide, comme une eau inconstante.
19 Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, that thou mayest stand before me; and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: they shall return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them.
C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle l'Éternel: Si tu te rétractes, je te rétablirai; tu te tiendras devant moi; et si tu sais démêler le bien d'avec le mal, tu seras comme ma bouche. C'est à eux de venir à toi, et non à toi d'aller à eux.
20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall; and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
Et je t'oppose à ce peuple comme un mur d'airain, comme un fort; s'ils s'attaquent à toi, ils ne te vaincront pas, car je suis avec toi pour te secourir et te délivrer, dit l'Éternel;
21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
et je te délivrerai de la main des méchants, et te sauverai du bras des violents.
