Isaiah 1
1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Vision d’Isaïe, fils d’Amos, qu’il a vue touchant Juda et Jérusalem, dans les jours d’Ozias, de Joathan, d’Achaz et d’Ezéchias, rois de Juda.
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the LORD hath spoken: I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
Ecoutez, cieux, et prête l’oreille, terre, parce que le Seigneur a parlé. J’ai nourri des fils et je les ai élevés, mais eux m’ont méprisé.
3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: [but] Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
Un bœuf connaît son possesseur, un âne l’étable de son maître; mais Israël ne m’a pas connu, et mon peuple n’a pas eu d’intelligence.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that deal corruptly: they have forsaken the LORD, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are estranged [and gone] backward.
Malheur à la nation pécheresse, au peuple chargé d’iniquité, à la race perverse, aux enfants scélérats; ils ont abandonné le Seigneur, ils ont blasphémé le saint d’Israël, ils sont retournés en arrière.
5 Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
Où vous frapperai-je encore, vous qui ajoutez à la prévarication? toute tête est
6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; [but] wounds, and bruises, and festering sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with oil.
De la plante des pieds jusqu’au sommet de la tête, rien en lui de sain; c’est blessure, meurtrissure, plaie enflammée, qui n’a été ni bandée, ni pansée, ni adoucie par l’huile.
7 Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
Votre terre est déserte, vos cités brûlées par le feu; votre pays, devant vous, des étrangers le dévorent, et il sera désolé comme dans une dévastation de l’ennemi.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
Et la fille de Sion sera laissée comme un berceau dans une vigne, comme une cabane dans un champ de concombres, comme une cité qui est livrée au pillage.
9 Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
Si le Seigneur des armées ne nous avait réservé un rejeton, nous aurions été comme Sodome. ous serions devenus semblables à Gomorrhe.
10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
Écoutez la parole du Seigneur, princes de Sodome; prêtez l’oreille à la loi de notre Dieu, peuple de Gomorrhe.
11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats.
Qu’ai-je à faire de la multitude de vos victimes? dit le Seigneur. Je suis rassasié; les holocaustes des béliers, et la graisse des animaux gras, et le sang des veaux et des agneaux et des boucs, je n’en veux point.
12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to trample my courts?
Lorsque vous êtes venus en ma présence, qui a demandé ces choses de vos mains, afin que vous vous promeniez dans mes parvis?
13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; new moon and sabbath, the calling of assemblies, —I cannot away with iniquity and the solemn meeting.
Ne m’offrez plus de sacrifice en vain; l’encens m’est en abomination. Ma néoménie, le sabbat et les autres fêtes, je ne les souffrirai point; vos assemblées sont iniques.
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
Vos calendes, et vos solennités, mon âme les hait: elles me sont devenues à charge; j’ai peine à les souffrir.
15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
Et lorsque vous étendrez vos mains, je détournerai mes yeux de vous; lorsque vous multiplierez la prière, je n’exaucerai pas; car vos mains sont pleines de sang.
16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil:
Lavez-vous, purifiez-vous, ôtez le mal de vos pensées de devant mes yeux; cessez d’agir avec perversité;
17 learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Apprenez à bien faire, cherchez la justice, venez au secours de l’opprimé, jugez l’orphelin, défendez la veuve.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Et venez, et accusez-moi, dit le Seigneur: si vos péchés sont comme l’écarlate, comme la neige ils deviendront blancs, et s’ils sont rouges comme le vermillon, comme la laine ils seront blancs.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
Si vous voulez, et que vous m’écoutiez, vous mangerez les biens de la terre.
20 but if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
Que si vous ne voulez pas, et que vous me provoquiez au courroux, le glaive vous dévorera, parce que la bouche du Seigneur a parlé.
21 How is the faithful city become an harlot! she that was full of judgment! righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.
Comment est devenue une prostituée la cité fidèle et pleine de jugement? la justice a habité en elle, mais maintenant ce sont des meurtriers.
22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water.
Ton argent s’est converti en scorie; ton vin a été mêlé d’eau.
23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Tes princes sont infidèles, compagnons de voleurs; tous aiment les présents et poursuivent les récompenses. Ils ne rendent pas justice à l’orphelin, et la cause de la veuve n’a pas d’accès auprès d’eux.
24 Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:
À cause de cela, dit le Seigneur Dieu des armées, le fort d’Israël: Ah! je me consolerai sur mes ennemis, je me vengerai de ceux qui me sont opposés.
25 and I will turn my hand upon thee, and throughly purge away thy dross, and will take away all thy tin:
Et je tournerai ma main vers toi, et j’épurerai par le feu tes scories, et j’enlèverai l’alliage qui est en toi.
26 and I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
Et je rétablirai tes juges comme ils furent d’abord, et tes conseillers comme anciennement; après cela tu seras appelée la cité du juste, ville fidèle.
27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
Sion, par le jugement, sera rachetée, et on la ramènera par la justice;
28 But the destruction of the transgressors and the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
Et le Seigneur brisera les scélérats et les pécheurs tous ensemble; et ceux qui ont abandonné le Seigneur seront consumés.
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
Car ils seront confondus par les idoles auxquelles ils ont sacrifié; et vous rougirez des jardins que vous aviez choisis,
30 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
Lorsque vous serez comme un chêne dont les feuilles tombent et comme un jardin sans eau.
31 And the strong shall be as tow, and his work as a spark; and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.
Et votre force sera comme la cendre chaude de l’étoupe, et votre œuvre comme une étincelle; et ils s’embraseront l’un et l’autre ensemble, et il n’y aura personne qui l’éteigne.
