Isaiah 65

1 I AM inquired of by them that asked not [for me]; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.

Je me suis manifesté à ceux qui ne me demandaient point; j'ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas; j'ai dit à un peuple qui n'avait point invoqué mon nom: Me voici.

2 I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts;

Durant tout le jour j'ai tendu les mains à un peuple désobéissant et contradicteur, à des hommes qui marchaient non dans la bonne voie, mais à la suite de leurs péchés.

3 a people that provoketh me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens, and burning incense upon bricks;

Ce peuple est celui qui ne cesse pas de m'irriter en face; ils sacrifient dans leurs jardins, et ils brûlent de l'encens sur des briques, pour des divinités qui n'existent pas.

4 which sit among the graves, and lodge in the secret places; which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

Ils se couchent sur des sépulcres ou des cavernes, à propos de leurs songes; et ils mangent de la chair de porc avec le jus de leurs victimes; et tous leurs vases sont souillés.

5 which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me, for I am holier than thou: these are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

Ce sont eux qui disent: Loin de moi, ne m'approche pas; car je suis pur. Mon courroux les réduira en fumée, et en eux brûlera un feu éternel.

6 Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, yea, I will recompense into their bosom,

Voilà qu'il est écrit devant mes yeux: Je ne garderai point le silence jusqu'à ce que j'aie puni dans leur sein

7 your own iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills: therefore will I first measure their work into their bosom.

Leurs péchés et ceux de leurs pères, dit le Seigneur. Ceux qui ont sacrifié sur les montagnes, ceux qui m'ont outragé sur les collines, recevront dans leur sein la punition de leurs œuvres.

8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not, for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

Ainsi dit le Seigneur: De même que s'il se trouve un grain mûr dans un verjus, on dit: Ne le gâtez point, parce que la bénédiction est en lui; ainsi ferai-je pour l'amour d'un seul qui me sert; pour l'amour de celui-là je ne les détruirai pas tous.

9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains: and my chosen shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.

Et je délivrerai la postérité de Jacob et de Juda; elle aura pour héritage ma montagne sainte; mes élus et mes serviteurs l'auront pour héritage, et ils y demeureront.

10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

Et il y aura dans la forêt des bergeries pour les menus troupeaux; et dans la vallée d'Achor se reposeront les bœufs de mon peuple, de ceux qui m'auront cherché.

11 But ye that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for Fortune, and that fill up mingled wine unto Destiny;

Et vous qui m'abandonnez et qui oubliez ma montagne sainte, qui dressez une table pour le démon et qui mêlez le vin pour faire des libations à la fortune,

12 I will destine you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but ye did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not.

Je vous livrerai au glaive, vous tomberez sous le couteau; car je vous ai appelés, et vous ne m'avez point obéi; j'ai parlé, et vous n'avez pas entendu, et devant moi vous avez fait le mal, et ce que je rejetais, vous l'avez choisi.

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ceux qui me servent mangeront; et vous, vous aurez faim; ceux qui me servent boiront, et vous, vous aurez soif.

14 behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

Ceux qui me servent vivront dans la joie, et vous, vous serez confondus; ceux qui me servent tressailliront d'allégresse, et vous, vous crierez dans la tristesse de votre cœur, et vous hurlerez dans le déchirement de votre esprit.

15 And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen, and the Lord GOD shall slay thee; and he shall call his servants by another name:

Et vous laisserez votre nom comme un objet de dégoût à mes élus, et le Seigneur vous détruira, et un nom nouveau sera donné à ceux qui le servent.

16 so that he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

Et ce nom sera béni sur la terre; car ils béniront le Dieu véritable; et ceux qui jureront sur la terre jureront par le Dieu véritable; ils oublieront leur ancienne affliction, qui ne reviendra plus en leur cœur.

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Car il y aura un ciel nouveau et une terre nouvelle; on ne se souviendra plus des choses d'autrefois, et le souvenir n'en reviendra plus en leur cœur.

18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

Mais ils y trouveront la joie et l'allégresse; car moi-même je ferai de Jérusalem l'allégresse, et de mon peuple la joie.

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

Et à mon tour je ferai de Jérusalem mes délices, et de mon peuple ma joie; et l'on n'y entendra plus la voix des pleurs, ni celle des gémissements.

20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old, and the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

Il n'y aura plus là ni enfant qui meure avant l'âge, ni vieillard qui ne remplisse son temps. Le jeune homme vivra cent ans, et le pécheur à sa mort aura aussi cent ans; mais celui-là sera maudit.

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

Et ils bâtiront des maisons, et ils y demeureront, et ils y planteront des vignes, et ils en mangeront les fruits.

22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree shall be the days of my people, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

Et ils ne bâtiront plus pour autrui, et ils ne planteront plus pour que d'autres mangent. Les jours de mon peuple seront comme les jours de l'arbre de vie, et les travaux où ils auront pris de la peine atteindront la vieillesse.

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for calamity; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

Mes élus ne se fatigueront pas en vain; ils n'auront point d'enfants pour leur malédiction, car c'est une race bénie de Dieu; et leurs petits enfants comme eux seront bénis.

24 And it shall come to pass that, before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

Et avant qu'ils aient crié je les aurai exaucés; pendant qu'ils parleront encore, je dirai: Qu'y a-t-il?

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Alors les loups et les agneaux viendront paître ensemble; le lion mangera de la paille comme le bœuf, et le serpent mangera la terre comme du pain. Ils ne nuiront à personne; ils ne détruiront rien sur ma montagne sainte, dit le Seigneur.
