Isaiah 58
1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.
Crie à plein gosier, ne te retiens pas! à l'égal de la trompette élève la voix, et annonce à mon peuple son crime et à la maison de Jacob son péché!
2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous ordinances, they delight to draw near unto God.
Journellement ils m'interrogent et désirent savoir mes voies; comme un peuple qui pratiquerait la justice et n'aurait pas abandonné la loi de son Dieu, ils demandent de moi des arrêts de justice; ils désirent l'approche de Dieu:
3 Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find [your own] pleasure, and exact all your labours.
« Pourquoi jeûnons-nous [disent-ils], et tu ne le vois pas? pourquoi nous traiter durement, et tu l'ignores? » Voici, dans votre jour de jeûne vous courez à vos affaires, et exigez toutes vos corvées.
4 Behold, ye fast for strife and contention, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye fast not this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.
Voici, vous jeûnez pour vous quereller, et pour disputer, et frapper d'un poing sacrilège. Vous ne jeûnez pas aujourd'hui à faire exaucer vos cris dans les lieux très hauts.
5 Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
Est-ce là le jeûne que j'aime, le jour où l'homme se traite durement? Quoi! plier la tête comme un jonc, et se coucher sur le cilice et la cendre, est-ce là ce que tu appelleras un jeûne, un jour approuvé de l'Éternel?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Voici le jeûne que j'aime: c'est qu'on délie les chaînes de l'impiété, qu'on fasse tomber les courroies du joug, qu'on affranchisse les opprimés et que vous enleviez toute sorte de joug;
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
et encore, que tu distribues ton pain à celui qui a faim, et amènes au logis les pauvres errants, que, si tu vois un homme nu, tu l'habilles, et que tu ne te dérobes pas à ton frère.
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rearward.
Alors ta félicité éclora comme l'aurore, et ta guérison fera de rapides progrès, et ta justice marchera devant toi, et la gloire de l'Éternel sera ton arrière-garde.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;
Alors tu appelleras et l'Éternel répondra; tu crieras et Il dira: « Me voici! » si dans ton sein tu cesses de mettre sous le joug, de montrer au doigt et de dire du mal.
10 and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday:
Si tu fais part de tes aliments à celui qui a faim, et rassasies l'âme indigente, alors pendant les ténèbres ta lumière se lèvera, et ton obscurité sera comme le midi.
11 and the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in dry places, and make strong thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
Et l'Éternel sera ton guide constant, et dans les lieux brûlés Il rassasiera ton âme, et redonnera de la vigueur à tes os; tu seras comme un jardin arrosé et comme une source dont les eaux ne trompent jamais.
12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
Et les tiens relèveront les ruines anciennes, tu réédifieras des fondements mis à nu depuis plusieurs âges, et on te nommera réparateur des brèches, restaurateur des chemins pour peupler le pays.
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, [and] the holy of the LORD honourable; and shalt honour it, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:
Si tu sais empêcher tes pieds de violer le sabbat, et ne pas suivre tes caprices dans mon jour saint, et si tu appelles le sabbat un délice, honoré de la consécration de l'Éternel, et si tu l'honores en ne pratiquant point tes voies, ne courant point à tes affaires, et ne tenant point de vains discours,
14 then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will make thee to ride upon the high places of the earth; and I will feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
alors tu trouveras tes délices dans l'Éternel, et je te ferai traverser sur un char les sommités du pays, et jouir de l'héritage de Jacob, ton père, car la bouche de l'Éternel l'a prononcé.
