Genesis 40
1 And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.
Después de estas cosas, sucedió que el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto ofendieron a su ʼadón, el rey de Egipto.
2 And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.
Faraón se enfureció contra sus dos funcionarios: el jefe de los coperos y el jefe de los panaderos.
3 And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
Los puso bajo custodia en la casa del capitán de la guardia, en la cárcel donde estaba preso José.
4 And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward.
El capitán de la guardia se los encargó a José, y éste les servía. Estuvieron bajo custodia durante algún tiempo.
5 And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.
El copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto, cuando estaban presos en la cárcel, ambos tuvieron un sueño en una misma noche, cada uno su sueño con su peculiar sentido.
6 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.
José fue a ellos por la mañana y observó que estaban perturbados.
7 And he asked Pharaoh’s officers that were with him in ward in his master’s house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
Preguntó a los funcionarios de Faraón que estaban con él en la prisión de la casa de su ʼadón: ¿Por qué sus rostros parecen tristes hoy?
8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.
Le respondieron: Nos vino un sueño y no hay quien lo interprete. Entonces José les dijo: ¿No corresponden las interpretaciones a ʼElohim? Les ruego que me los narren.
9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
Entonces el jefe de los coperos contó su sueño a José: En mi sueño apareció ante mí una vid,
10 and in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, [and] its blossoms shot forth; [and] the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
y en la vid estaban tres ramas. Parecía que les salían brotes, florecían, y sus racimos de uvas maduraban.
11 and Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
La copa de Faraón estaba en mi mano. Tomé las uvas y las exprimí en la copa de Faraón, y entregué la copa en mano de Faraón.
12 And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;
José le dijo: Esta es su interpretación: Las tres ramas son tres días.
13 within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thine office: and thou shalt give Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
Dentro de tres días Faraón alzará tu cabeza y te devolverá a tu puesto. Pondrás la copa de Faraón en su mano, como de costumbre cuando eras su copero.
14 But have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
Pero cuando te vaya bien, acuérdate de mí. Te ruego que tengas misericordia de mí, me menciones a Faraón y me saques de esta casa,
15 for indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
porque ciertamente fui secuestrado de la tierra de los hebreos. Nada hice aquí para que me confinaran en la cárcel.
16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head:
Entonces, al ver el jefe de los panaderos que interpretó favorablemente, dijo a José: También yo soñé que veía tres cestas de pan sobre mi cabeza.
17 and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
En la cesta más alta había de todos los manjares de Faraón, obra de panadero, y las aves se los comían de la cesta que estaba sobre mi cabeza.
18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;
José respondió: Esta es su interpretación: Las tres cestas son tres días.
19 within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
Dentro de tres días Faraón alzará tu cabeza y te hará colgar de un árbol, y las aves comerán tu carne.
20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.
Sucedió, pues, al tercer día, el día del cumpleaños de Faraón, que él hizo un banquete para todos sus esclavos. En medio de sus esclavos levantó la cabeza del jefe de los coperos y la cabeza del jefe de los panaderos.
21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand:
Restableció en su oficio al jefe de los coperos, y éste colocó la copa en la mano de Faraón,
22 but he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
pero colgó al jefe de los panaderos, como José les interpretó.
23 Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
Sin embargo, el jefe de los coperos no se acordó de José, sino lo olvidó.
