Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
Las palabras del Predicador, el hijo de David, rey en Jerusalén.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
Vanidad de vanidades, dice el Predicador. Vanidad de vanidades, todo es vanidad.
3 What profit hath man of all his labour wherein he laboureth under the sun?
¿Qué provecho tiene el hombre De todo su trabajo que hace bajo el sol?
4 One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; and the earth abideth for ever.
Generación va y generación viene, Pero la tierra siempre permanece.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he ariseth.
Sale el sol y se oculta el sol. Se apresura hacia el lugar donde vuelve a salir.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits.
El viento sopla hacia el sur y vuelve hacia el norte. Gira sin cesar. Vuelve otra vez a sus giros el viento.
7 All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place whither the rivers go, thither they go again.
Todos los ríos corren hacia el mar, Y el mar nunca se llena, Al lugar de donde vinieron los ríos, Allí vuelven para volver a correr.
8 All things are full of weariness; man cannot utter [it]: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
Todas las cosas son fatigosas. El hombre no puede explicarlas. El ojo nunca se sacia de ver, Ni el oído se llena de oír.
9 That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
¿Qué es lo que fue? Lo mismo que será. ¿Qué es lo hecho? Lo mismo que se hará. Nada nuevo hay bajo el sol.
10 Is there a thing whereof men say, See, this is new? it hath been already, in the ages which were before us.
¿Hay cosa de la cual se diga: Mira, esto es nuevo? Ya existió en los siglos que nos precedieron.
11 There is no remembrance of the former [generations]; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter [generations] that are to come, among those that shall come after.
No hay memoria de lo primero. Tampoco de lo último habrá memoria Entre los que vendrán después.
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
Yo, el Predicador, fui rey de Israel en Jerusalén.
13 And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.
Dediqué mi corazón a buscar e investigar con sabiduría todo lo que sucede bajo el cielo. Dura tarea que ʼElohim dio a los hijos de hombres para que sean afligidos con ella.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
Vi todas las obras que se hacen bajo el sol. Ciertamente todo es vanidad y correr tras el viento.
15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
Lo torcido no se puede enderezar, Y lo incompleto no se puede completar.
16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
Hablé a mi corazón: Mira, me engrandecí y crecí en sabiduría sobre todos los que fueron antes de mí en Jerusalén. Mi corazón percibió mucha sabiduría y ciencia.
17 And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind.
Dediqué mi corazón a obtener sabiduría y a entender la locura y la insensatez. Comprendí que aun esto es correr tras el viento.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
Porque en la mucha sabiduría hay mucha frustración, Y el que añade conocimiento añade dolor.
