Deuteronomy 15

1 At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.

Au terme de sept années, tu feras relâche.

2 And this is the manner of the release: every creditor shall release that which he hath lent unto his neighbour; he shall not exact it of his neighbour and his brother; because the LORD’S release hath been proclaimed.

Et voici le mode du relâche: Tout créancier se relâchera pour ce qu'il aura prêté à son prochain; il n'usera pas de rigueur contre son prochain et son frère; car on a proclamé relâche de par l'Éternel.

3 Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it: but whatsoever of thine is with thy brother thine hand shall release.

Contre l'étranger tu pourras user de rigueur, mais tu te relâcheras pour ce que tu as chez ton frère.

4 Howbeit there shall be no poor with thee; (for the LORD will surely bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it; )

Cependant il ne doit plus y avoir de pauvres chez vous, car l'Éternel te comblera de bénédictions dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en propriété pour l'occuper,

5 if only thou diligently hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all this commandment which I command thee this day.

pourvu seulement que tu sois docile à la voix de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour t'appliquer à pratiquer la totalité de ce commandement que je te prescris en ce jour.

6 For the LORD thy God will bless thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over thee.

Car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira comme Il te l'a promis, et tu prêteras sur gages à beaucoup de nations, sans emprunter toi-même, et tu tiendras sous ta dépendance beaucoup de nations, mais elles ne te tiendront pas sous la leur.

7 If there be with thee a poor man, one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:

S'il y a parmi vous quelque pauvre, lequel que ce soit de tes frères, à l'une de tes Portes, dans ton pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne, tu n'endurciras pas ton cœur et ne fermeras point ta main pour ton frère indigent;

8 but thou shalt surely open thine hand unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need [in that] which he wanteth.

tu ouvriras au contraire ta main pour lui et lui prêteras sur gage, assez pour ses besoins, ce qui lui manque.

9 Beware that there be not a base thought in thine heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.

Prends garde qu'en ton cœur ne s'élève la criminelle pensée qui te ferait dire: La septième année, l'année du relâche, approche! et que tu ne regardes d'un œil malveillant ton frère, le pauvre, pour ne lui rien donner, et qu'il ne réclame contre toi auprès de l'Éternel, et que tu ne te charges d'un péché.

10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.

Donne, donne-lui et n'aie pas le cœur chagrin en lui donnant, car c'est pour cela que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira dans tous tes travaux et toutes tes entreprises.

11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt surely open thine hand unto thy brother, to thy needy, and to thy poor, in thy land.

Puisqu'il ne manquera pas de pauvre dans le pays, c'est pourquoi je te donne ce commandement: Ouvre ta main pour ton frère, tes indigents et tes pauvres dans ton pays.

12 If thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.

Si ton frère, Hébreu, ou femme de la nation des Hébreux, s'est vendu à toi et t'a servi six ans, la septième année tu le laisseras sortir libre de chez toi,

13 And when thou lettest him go free from thee, thou shalt not let him go empty:

et le laissant ainsi sortir libre de chez toi, tu ne le renverras pas à vide;

14 thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy threshing-floor, and out of thy winepress: as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him.

gratifie-le d'un don pris sur ton menu bétail, sur ton aire et à ton pressoir, c'est ce dont l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura béni, que tu lui donneras.

15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing today.

Et souviens-toi que tu fus esclave dans le pays d'Egypte, et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a racheté; c'est pourquoi je te prescris aujourd'hui ce commandement.

16 And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go out from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee;

Mais s'il te dit: Je ne veux pas sortir de chez toi, car je t'aime toi et ta maison, parce qu'il se trouve bien chez toi,

17 then thou shalt take an awl, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.

prends l'alêne et perce-lui-en l'oreille contre la porte; et il sera ton esclave à perpétuité; et pour ta servante tu procéderas de même.

18 It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou lettest him go free from thee; for to the double of the hire of an hireling hath he served thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

Et qu'il ne te semble pas dur de le laisser sortir libre de chez toi, car son service de six années chez toi vaut le double de la paie d'un mercenaire; et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira dans tout ce que tu feras.

19 All the firstling males that are born of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thine ox, nor shear the firstling of thy flock.

Tu consacreras à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tout premier-né qui naîtra dans ton gros et ton menu bétail, les mâles. Tu n'emploieras point à tes travaux le premier-né de ton bœuf, et ne tondras point le premier-né de tes brebis;

20 Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household.

c'est devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu le mangeras chaque année, dans le lieu choisi par l'Éternel, toi et ta famille.

21 And if it have any blemish, [as if it be] lame or blind, any ill blemish whatsoever, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God.

Et s'il a quelque défaut, étant ou boiteux ou aveugle, s'il est taré en quelque manière, tu ne le sacrifieras point à l'Éternel, ton Dieu,

22 Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean [shall eat it] alike, as the gazelle, and as the hart.

tu le mangeras dans tes Portes, en état d'impureté ou en état de pureté, comme de la gazelle et du cerf.

23 Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it out upon the ground as water.

Seulement tu ne mangeras pas son sang, tu le verseras sur la terre comme de l'eau.
